Cobra Daytona Coupe in plastic.
jbwelda replied to Steve D.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
if fujimi is doing ferraris then i hope they do maseratis as well. modern ones and vintage ones. reason i bring this up is that if you look at cmc's ad for their (fantastic by the way) birdcage, they license the name maserati through ferrari so they must own that license and hence if fujimi is under contract to use the ferrari name maybe they have implied rights to maseratis as well. speaking of which there is some killer maser around my neighborhood, dont know the model but its very recent and you can hear it about 10 blocks away...and its got a quiet exhaust system. -
Volvo P1800 VS. 56 corvette
jbwelda replied to JAFFA's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
let me say it again: volvo. and you ever ridden in a fifties 'vette? volvo wont take a benzio but it sure do have it all over a cheby! wish i had a photo of the volvo 122 ( i guess it was) that was made up to look like a lead sled 49 mercury, now THAT was cool. took you a few minutes to realize, hey how come this merc is so small! -
now dont take this the wrong way or anything but, re: those wheels: PLEASE MAKE IT STOP!!!

one thing to note about the "prince of darkness"/lucas electrics that are so notorious: you would be amazed how well they work if you just put in new wiring harnesses. i know that from experience with 5 brit/pod-equipped cars ive owned. ps: q: why do brits like warm beer? a: because lucas makes their refrigerators! q: how come the brits never made a personal computer? a: they couldnt figure out how to make it leak oil! that said, my 54 MGTF didnt leak a drop after i rebuilt the motor with modern seals. course it helped to never put any in in the first place. pps: nice mgb there.

Cobra Daytona Coupe in plastic.
jbwelda replied to Steve D.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
i think we are all aware that it costs x dollars to tool up a new release and "x" is a pretty high figure in most cases. my problem is, though, that these things are somehow preannounced (maybe in this case just rumoured but in many other cases officially announced) and THEN you find out that oh yeah all we need is a quarter million dollars to get them out to you! let me just state right here: all i need to be a millionaire is about 999,000 dollars! so the point is, maybe there shouldnt be announcements made until the necessary (and known in advance for sure!) financing has been arranged. personally ive watched exoto (you know that d**c**t company of some repute) "announce" birdcage maseratis, chaparrels (yes theyve done some but promised more) and many other "forthcoming" products and then guess what? they dont show up! whats the point of that? anyway i hope this cobra sees the market because i would buy at least a couple of each, but i only believe things when they show up on my hobby shop shelf. -
thanks for the reply, man that track looks great, im thinking about moving to texas now!

>These cars are not like this out of the box guys. well if youre referring to my comments, i kinda figured that. no, i knew that, mostly because ive got a number of those cars still in the box and/or ive built them up and modified them similarly myself. im most impressed with the paint jobs...thats why i asked if they were display only. my personal philosophy on such things (usually anyway) is: build em nice, take photos, then put them on the track. at that point they kind of stop looking so nice! great work man, i just want to know some details as a way of getting a conversation going in what i thought was pretty much a dead forum.
-
so tell us a little bit about these cars, like for instance, i assume you may have had these since they first came out? (i assume that because you have boxes for them) or did you recently find them somewhere? are the ones with the cox chassis 1/24 or 1/32? those monogram ones with the kind of monocoque chassis, they came with those? i have a few of those style chassis but have always wondered where they originated from. do you actually run these or are they display only models? do you have a home track? got any photos? if youre in california can i come over and play??? edit: hell i may come out to texas just to run! end edit

Help needed with Crazy Modeler PE Parts
jbwelda replied to Merkur XR4Ti's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
im with bob: the miracle substance future floor wax works like a champ in situations like this. -
i love that "embassy" version. will manufacturers ever get back to this golden age? (i say that only half joking...i actually remember thinking all the extra stuff in this kit was pretty cool, even if i didnt use it).

heres something and its probably not news to anyone: to "alan": hey man what you paid was pretty cheap for the cost of an education. why not just eat it like everyone else does and put the guy on your "no buy" list if thats how you feel about it. whining like this in public just makes you look like, well, a whiner. to the resin guy: just send the guy another body or some money or something. its not worth your time or energy to fight it. and then invite him to never buy anything from you again. your products should speak for themselves. for whoever started talking about copying others work: so whats different between what you say and what a whole lot of other casters (and some very high profile ones at that) do, namely take out of production kits and copy them or pieces of them? at least he changed something (i dont personally know that; just taking your word for it) which is a lot more than a couple places i could name do. and that stuff on the ebay auction (the dragster with the "free" (i guess, maybe i missed the point though) suspension and running gear parts) looks more than usable to me...the comet or whatever was pretty weak but i dont see much beyond the pale on the dragster personally. this is all such a tempest in a teapot if you ask me. but then again, i guess no one did.

thats some killer stuff there! keep it up; this forum is dying!
