Revell Pete 359,resumption from 2013

Good that you're back with this project. Are you using any fancy acetate dial faces for the dash? Just paint? Looks convincing. -
Hi Rob, thanks for the clarification. When the smartphones are being used intelligently then no way is this in my eyes inferior behavior. My wife has one, and it has often helped when out and about. But like in commercials, the young chick walking down the sidewalk and runs into a street sign is goofy. "Designed fingernails", everything else just like it's supposed to be, clothes, hair and the way she acts is just like all the other chicks walking down the sidewalk. When asked a relative simple question, you get a relative simple answer, "I don't know". Recently, a TV comedy show did some question and answer deal in the main thoroughfare at a major mall. By the way, this is Germany; Question 1; Who is Martin Luther. 90% of the teenies answered something along the lines of "some black dude". Martin Luther, the great German religious reformer 15th Century. Question 2; Who was the former Chancellor of Germany? Adolf Hitler. The question was the former, not him. ....and so forth. Head down generation.

I can understand those of you who need or use a smartphone for work, and other electronics as well, many times daily. Great that such inventions are available, by all means. What I had in mind though from the beginning, were the folks who just use a smartphone for fun, if that's what it could be called. Addiction for sure. Schoolkids for instance. Some private grade schools are not allowing them anymore on campus. Plus some folks just walking down the sidewalk at lunchtime, or the weekends. No way the majority is working. The wife has a cleaning woman, a Polish lady. She used to have conversations while vacuuming rugs! I get a kick too, out of ladies/moms on bicycles, with a phone at their ears, while peddling uphill with a basket of groceries. How about three couples coming to a restaurant, after ordering, they all are playing with their phones and not bothering to communicate with each other. The wife and I go out to eat often, we notice this a lot. Gotta love it.

Ray that's a serious chunk of metal there. Looking good.

Why the aggression? Your statement somehow doesn't coincide with your sig. Does the 88 times a day seem about average for you?

I'm loving these replies, great to know you're not alone! Paper maps, I read that loud and clear. I can relate. Last year I relied on a GPS device deal to get me through the Alps heading south, problem was though, the read was old, I was dumb enough to follow. The "route" was meant for summer passage. I fell for it. Ugh. Lots of snow up there in May. Great for driving through big cities though! @Larry, since my recent retirement, I'm amazed at how often the mailbox is empty. I did move though. Love it. I'm not interesting anymore, and hope to remain relatively invisible.

David, excellent. I feel folks like this are losing the personal touch in life. For my part, I like to talk, and I like feedback. Example; The wife and I love going to outdoor local restaurants during the day. OK, I'm retired and can enjoy daytime activities. Summertime is a great time. The place starts to fill up with other seniors and lots of happy faces and lively conversation start to settle to the tables. Soon, the "working folk" come in, day breakers and office folk. Hardly anything personal is spoken, they're mostly doing their displays. Yesterday, out again, the table behind us had two guys sitting. The waitress (end 40's) comes up to catch their order. Both we're busy with their smart-toys. The gal says, "either you get rid of those things and order food, or you can leave. This is a restaurant". Wow. I like.

What did you see on the road today?
10thumbs replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I missed it again. Just around the corner from where I live is a beautifully restored 60's Citroen DS in light green metallic, a beauty. If the sun shines tomorrow I'm taking the camera down the hill and having a closer look. It's a beauty. -

That Olds is defo 60's. Just not familiar with the way the Canadian models looked around the bumpers. I'd say that Olds is a 66 Cutlass Coupe. Classy cars back in the day. -

Good to read your back. Rob....sniff, sniff....annual camping adventure. Hey, take a long shower first, OK? -
Geez, just a bunch of boring old farts here, huh? I'm good with the category though. A talk show recently on TV, the theme was "doing what everyone else does". Lots of 40ish folks already wishing they hadn't gotten tattooed. Recently, the wife and I did another dance course, ballroom dancing. Chicks just love to dance and I like it too. Not long ago, the participants used to talk with one another in the breaks and get acquainted to find out who you could meet up with to go out dancing as a group. Nowadays, the breaks were just showing almost every person, having their heads down during the whole break. No conversation, even among the couples that were attending the course. I looked at my wife and asked if I'm offensive or what the deal is. She laughs and tells me we're just old fashioned. So be it. 88 times a day. I believe it too. That even takes in the 1/4 of the population that doesn't have a smartphone here. @Bill, the Grand Canyon with head down, gotta love it! Good too about the fine while driving.

Help Request....Custom Trucks
10thumbs replied to 10thumbs's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's a clear reply, thanks Clayton. I'm leaning towards nothing on the top, because of the silvery paint, enough shiny metal is visible. -
Guys, a few last touches and the current project can go Under Glass. Question: Horns and lights on top of the cab of Custom Trucks. I've seen pics without any on the cab. What does the law say? A must have, or a personal choice? Whatcha' think?

I don't have a Smartphone, no tattoos either, but that's another story. Anyway, I heard on the news today, statistically, in Germany every citizen looks at the smartphone display 88 times a day! Hardly anyone just walks downtown anymore without the silly thing in their hands, eyes glued to the display. Worse, while driving cars too. Anyone here that does not have one? 88 times a day, how many times do you think you'll have a peek?

The wife and I had a great day today. First off downtown to the market, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Here a wide angle view of the place as seen other than market day; We went there especially for the new kind of old fashioned tomatoes. These are becoming very popular, a bio-farmer outside of town cultivates these, he has now over 20 varieties, they're sensational. We bought about 4 kilos worth, here a small overview; The green and yellow sorts are less acidic, the various reds are totally meaty and are like none I've ever tasted; It just so happened there's the annual wine fest going on. 1000 various wines from regional winemakers. In my area, Riesling is King. Soooo, it was just before noon, we had a seat under a big sun umbrella (not a cloud in the sky and 83° today) and I just had to have one of these; Rostbratwurst freshly grilled; The wife needed one of these, from a trailer-stand that is there on market day. The stand; Germany's favorite fast food, the curry wurst, with fries and runny mayonnaise. Extra spicy curry powder, the sausage is a grilled beef sort, delicious; A little later on an Italian antipasta plate and a wrap, of course a couple of white wines, and what a day! We're going back to the wine fest probably tomorrow or Friday.

Good ingredients with your specialty! Vinegar and oil is a must. Here is the real thing where I live, near Frankfurt, Germany. We're talking Hessen now, maybe the darling of all German states. Forget Bavaria. In Hessen we love Handkäs. Hand cheese. Yuk. We like it with onions, vinegar and oil, on buttered dark bread, with at least a quart per person, of apple cider. Oh yeah; Sensational! Stinks to high heavens tough, really gross. I had this yesterday for lunch in an outdoor restaurant. Excellent!

A slice of fresh dark bread from a bakery, the kind with a real dark and tasty crust, with some really smelly cheese on it is a dream! I mean one of those cheeses when you open the fridge, the whole kitchen smells like something really gross, and a real thick slice of dark bread that makes you reel from some centuries old baking secrets, between the two a real spread of fat butter. Yep, gimme a cheese sandwich. These are open faced though in the Old World. Great! A beer along with this and I'm thinking life is good. White wine is OK too. Lots of cheese stuff here too, with onions and garlic and peppers mixed in to make excellent spreads. Good stuff. The wife loves to serve cheese platters with different bread sorts, maybe some grapes to go along, but really not much more offered. Nothing is missing though, the taste is that good.

I just checked out deli sandwich shops and restaurants in NYC. I want one now! My wife is a German girl, and I have to really smile when I hear you "can take the German out of the country, but nor the country out of the German". Here's proof; Germany is a paradise for bread, cheeses and sausages. 300 different types of breads are baked and offered. Hardly anyone buys bread from a supermarket, we go to a bakery for bread. Daily. 150 different types of cheeses are produced and processed here. Delicious. 1500 different types of sausages! Unbelievable. Bought fresh every couple of days. The Germans' idea of a sandwich is, fresh slice of bread with a spread of butter, and a slice of ham on it. A variable is also cheese, just not together, that won't work. one thick slice of dark bread, one slice of sausage, or cheese. That's it! Geez, I still can't handle this type of "sandwich" very well. I'm grabbing for the pickles, onions, peppers (I love chilies), tomatoes, more of the sausage and lots of cheese, read lots of stuff on there, and then grill it in the oven. A big fat open faced deal, love it. Maybe even a fried egg on top. A BLT over here is as good as unknown.

Giving characters change is in Euro land ridiculous. Stop and toss a coin, you'll have a pickpocket at your side real soon. Here they are all organized. You go shop, they steal your stuff where you live. No beggars.

Marlowe, what scale are you building? Great project, I'm happy to see a scratch project coming up. Will you continue with the carb motor? Tube material for the frame is brass? -
Oh my, Indian food. What a wonderful creation! May be worth a debate for sure, but seriously, my opinion is....one of the greatest foods available in our world today. Let me say that I live Italian and Mediterranean food daily, more than 30 years now. Very low cholesterol and fats, all is OK. I eat well and drink a wine or two for sure and no overweight. The food is healthy. The taste is for me the greatest is the western world. Enter India. Indian food has to be my opinion, another of the world's greatest wonders ever. Period. such amazing tastes, and all so very different, what a wonderful way to spend time with. Just a dream for taste and sensational scents. A true marvel in my opinion.

Harry, southern guys can do without supermarkets sometimes. Crabbing was so easy when I was a kid. Just drop a line from the side of a timber bridge along the coast, anything meaty on the end, the silly blue crabs would bite so hard into the meat you could pull the line up at your leisure. Deviled crab is something good. Read the body was fist sized, just a little flatter. Real good southern sea food. Well, the water was at least salty. The ocean was a few miles away.

Gotta love the drag racing forum. Drop by, look around and read a little, and often I feel more than happy to leave.

Ray, I don't understand your method of alignment with that piece, can you explain? ....."porn", that piece is sick!
