  1. You have a good reason to be happy Carl, sounds like you have a good relation with the "kid". Good to hear. I always had a great time with my father, he lived to be very old. Also to Rich; Good your gal is home again. Beginning of last year I heard the same diagnosis, just no prescription as the swelling hasn't appeared yet. I quit walking golf courses, and quit the game completely as the swing turn only aggravated and inflamed my knees and hips. Took up bicycle riding to keep the muscle tone, it works. Personally i'd be interested in hearing more of the prescription. Good luck to you and your wife.
  2. A great read Jason! Thanks for the link. Man, go and build this one, it's a great model to do, and you have some good background info.
  3. Once again a very clean build. Your work is really fine, I like your style a lot. As usual also, excellent paint job, respect.
  4. Hi Jason, I'm no expert with this, but I can't imagine anything other than a custom chassis for a car like this. Tube frame? Probably. The last pic pretty much shows the deal. When the flash is trimmed off, is the frame round or boxed? I'd almost bet money that Speed City gave lots of attention to this detail. Another idea from this period is Don Nicholson's Comet. Not a Mopar of course, but some insight for the era. The pics of this car flipped up in the pits are readily available. That sure does look like a nice quality piece from Speed City. Cool car too, will make for a great model, good luck with your future endeavors.
  5. Now you're talking Ray. That's a tire for a street hot rod!
  6. Ugh. Are you sick or what? No models. No sense. No interest for me. Troll time. I thought such from the first time you posted. Now what? Bye bye.
  7. Yep. Well said Ace, I like. Snake, come on, rocket surgery? You can do better. Anyways, Bruce baby, you're new here. Sad that so much is so old to you already. Please get with the program and enjoy the majority view here, you are pretty much alone, but it ain't all that important anyway. Look, like or not, and move on. Do your own personal best, and get along with the rest. OK guys?
  8. Gary, you're right about the hunger. I'm in Germany and start drooling when I read about and see the sandwiches in US. I have to out myself as a fan of the British folk. I love your language (read guys, their English, our real English) and your humour is just outstanding. Love it. I've had the pleasure of visiting many times, and have even realized my German wife has found a liking as well. Just your food is something that needs time for acquaintance. I have to admit though, my 1st visit was in '73 when I picked up my brand new Norton 750 Commando in London. The Landlady recommended I rather go to the China-man down the street, as the English food would not make me happy. Astounding. Later on though, a fish and chips as you describe is a reference. Next time there I'll do it again.
  9. Oh no! Did he really write this? My cup runneth over. Come on dude, you usually stir more up than this tidbit.
  10. ....carts full of steaks lol. Even more obvious than using your whole ration card all at once for smokes, read a lot of ciggies! But the folks were appreciative, and it was a blast. No sweat. Still, it took a long time before the Germans were able to serve a decent steak, this cut was just not known in the normal cuisine. Mostly though still, the taste is not nearly as good as a US style steakhouse. My local garden style outdoor restaurant place has a decent steak, half pound, with a salad and fries goes for $16 on steak day (Wednesdays) or $22 regular. Tender and well prepared, just the open grill taste and the special US steak taste is missing. Meat quality is good though. I'll do there with the wife on Wednesday with my silver Vespa, with it's Ferrari red leather seat. Just to stay on topic.
  11. Yep. Now let me find some happy faces.... This is really a great topic. Going overboard about maybe going overboard. Mr. plastic-mechanic, do you actually build models? I may have overlooked any of our previous entries, I'll search again to see if I can find anything.
  12. Hi Ray, I like the slicks better too, but realize your concern. My fear would be the knobby look might not look right, meaning the texture / optic. Can the tread tire be "seasoned" to let it look real? Good progress here.
  13. Yep. That stuff was fairly popular. Man, even today, occasionally a native hits on me if I have "access". Nope, he ain't getting any of my rights. LOL. Good, every unit has it's go to guy. Mine had this E-6 who had really good connections, even to higher life locals. The pick up guy drove cool German cars too, from cooler German girls. Bonn back then had lots of duty free channels, and what the Exchange offered could be had also in somewhat bigger bottles at a really low price. Also world class tailors and this kind of stuff. I had tailored suits of great material for a lot cheaper than cheap, really amazing. Criminal? Illegal? Sure was fun though.
  14. An orange K70. Joe, so you were the guy that bought that one. It's brethren, the 411/412 are familiar to me too. They ran quick and were roomy for a VW type car, but we're really thirsty. Not the best years for VW. I had a neighbor that drove a white K70, I remember them.
  15. I did a little researching, there was a slight difference built in during the Freightliner COE days. As I understand, mid 70's it got this wider grill and bigger windshield and was named the Powerliner, still the same design otherwise. The AMT model needs some work to get this look. I'm thinking about it.
  16. I like the 34 Ford pickup as a hot rod theme. Lots of potential with these kits.
  17. Hi Brad, looking very good and I'm happy to see you going this route. The riveting kicks butt, and will be absolute stunning when finished. I like.
  18. ....and contradictory as well. Bruce, I feel you're writing yourself in circles. Several posts back, I'm talking about the ones that were deleted.... You wrote that you're not as "vein" as to show your own models. Then the deal just recently about your headaches and needing an aspirin to regain your wits after the decision dilemma about which hub cab would be better suited. Now I read you find some cars under glass as "amazing, but to each his own". Bruce, perhaps your veinity is knocking on your door and your aspirin high is kicking in. I'm kind of amazed with this thread. Experience lets me realize this site is quite civil and amusing as well and there are a lot of very good modelers here, respect, and thanks for showing all your pics guys! But why the trivial complaints? Get over it and let guys post what they feel like posting. None are perfect.
  19. Just today I had a nice little cruise with the Vespa over the countryside and then coming back using a shortcut, drove down our local "new car alley", an array of dealerships. French, Jap and German car dealers. Since this thread I'm taking notice of car colors. The lots were full of very colorful brand new cars to be seen! The most colorful were those Jap and Korean ones. Just no one drives those in Germany.
  20. Oh my. The hills of West Virginia don't have the greatest rep overseas. Dave, Luc is Belgian, not British. Just a FYI. But then maybe you were using the Brits as an example. Still, for some reason I could not recommend your area for Luc. Sorry if I wreck this thread.
  21. 295 plus. Maybe 275 if I order three.
  22. Slantzilla, love it Dan. Not a Hemi, great stuff. Is that chrome powder from Uschi? I like the look. I'm familiar with plane Jane Mopars, my 1st experience was a frog from '62, then later on a 383 '64 Sport Fury, great looking car that ran well. Also the family had others, 65 V100 grocery getter, 68 273 Valiant that later got a 340 then things started getting rowdy! All were newly bought. Yep, Mopars are special.
  23. This past January I started my 1st truck project. The kit was $25, till it got here, packaging, post and Customs, more like $40. I thought way too much. Now, mid August, the model will be finished this week. 8 months hobby for $40. OK, add all of the material needed to bash the kit makes it much more, but still, kind of a cheap way to enjoy a hobby at home.
  24. Very impressive Ray. The 1:1 rear end pic is just sick. With the wide rear tires, such a setup seems correct to me, at least from an optical view. Not an expert on these areas, rather model what the pros do. The dimensions of your mock up look good to me too. I like.
  25. Joe, the neighborhood is something I'll tell a German friend about. He and his wife are flying to NYC end of the month, later a tour to visit their kids in Florida and out West. Both are USA fans, love the theater and home foods. About the fish, seems a lot like the famous fish market in Hamburg, known all over Europe. Fantastic fish in all variations. Just no king mackerel. Cheap and lots of fun to visit. I'll ask the wife what her secret ingredient could be for heavy cheesecake, her mother's recipe. Will she tell? Maybe, maybe not. I love this kind of food, and the places where it's served. Lots of old restaurants here as well. Great atmosphere and the food is great.
