  1. You have a fairly good hacksaw. The blade on mine is so wavy I get seasick. Are you doing anything special with the door hinges? Michael
  2. OK, I have yet another question about Z-a-G. Which one do you recommend for aluminum and plastic? I see several different kinds, I can imagine the thicker stuff is better, not the super thin glue. Am I right? Could you tell me the exact type you recommend? I see there are a lot of different types. Michael
  3. Oh yeah! I like. Michael
  4. Looking good Chris. Geez, now that the pics are big enough, the aged steel looks great! Michael
  5. Hi Jason, looking real good, I like it! What really strikes me is the slocks, what kind of finish do you have on them? They look right, and the dull shine makes them look real. I like the idea too of the steelies, plus the wiring is well done. Michael
  6. Thanks Al, I had a look there, good info. The size mentioned was for the model stuff. I'm curious of what the original sizes were. Michael
  7. Paint the stuff. Michael
  8. Hi guys, I have yet another detail question concerning models with opening doors. The Revell '51 Anglia Gasser (mine is the Street Rod version) has doors that open, but the hinges are huge! Also on the green panel car (AMT or Revell?? , I have it just not sure now which) doors and trunk lid are functional. Huge hinges! So, in 1:1, does anyone know how wide actual hinges were/are? Let's say a 32 Ford, how big are the real hinges width/height? I's like to make them up in metal, but I'd like to be close to scale. Anyone? Michael
  9. Chris, I use a little tool called jpeg Compressor for all of my pics. Super easy. I have it set at 68kb, 800x600. This allows me to post on any forum. Even if the pics are like 45kb, I use it with success. I'm sure others will chime in and make suggestions too. All of the pics I've posted here have been from this small program. The pics shown are big enough, and when clicked they go almost to full screen. Michael
  10. JR, that's a good tip. I even thought about mounting the windshield frame and filing the sides, top and bottom to reduce the visible size somewhat. I did this on my 64 Dodge post door car as the posts were too thick and it came out nice. I think in 1:25 models, smaller size is often better. I have experience with Alclad Aluminum, gloss and satin finish, this might work out well. Since the car is Candy Apple Red, I think maybe a brushed stainless type of color will work nicely. Chrome just looks a bit harsh. More to come.... Michael
  11. Thanks guys. Mike, I'll leave the frame chrome. I just think it's too big, it looks too blingy for my taste. I'll see more as I move along. Del, I'm thinking in the direction of moving the firewall back just a tad, if there's room. I mean more like just inside the cowl, instead of out front like the replica 1:1 cars. Our models are replicas, but I'd like a more real look for the model. Maybe I can just add some fine profiles to the smooth firewall to let it look better. Some mounted gadgetry like electrics and brake cylinder would help too. Michael
  12. Hi Chris, are the pics so small or is it my PC? Good project you've started. Michael
  13. Hi Brad, things are progressing and looking good! Question, Zap a Gap, does it dry clear? If I overshoot the connection, will it be visible later? Just a question since I haven't used it yet, but I'm ordering soon. Michael
  14. Hi guys, I have an ongoing 32 Ford build and I'm not sure about the chrome windshield, meaning the frame for the glass. The Revell kit is from 1996, this one; My question is, were the original cars equipped with a chrome frame? I can't really believe it was. I did search a bit, and I found out the firewall from the kit is not so good for my taste, and I'll change it. What about the windshield frame? Should the glass frame be black? Thanks, Michael
  15. Hello Joe, just pay attention to what jwrass says, you won't go wrong. He brought me to H of K paints, and I have to tell you this stuff is just amazing. It's so easy to work with, and you'll get excellent results. Experiment with your tip sizes and air pressure till you can get the paint on there wet enough. My brush likes the 0.5mm tip and about 50 lbs. pressure. Each brush is different, so I've gathered. I've used the usual model paints and some Duplicolor stuff, enamels and acrylics with my air brush. H of K is worlds better in my opinion! I don't see a need to try anything further. Good luck, Michael
  16. Hi Monty, yes Ferrari does use a pink base coat. The guys here on a German Forum build lots of Ferraris and they all say go with the pink base. I've done some testing too with a real nice red enamel on different base shades, but personally nothing pink yet. I like the white base the best so far! Michael
  17. I was riding my Vespa today, behind a beautiful, a gorgeous 300 SL Gullwing Mercedes. Mint condition.of course. Dark grey with red leather, original looking tires, not too wide. A beauty! Those cars sound good too. Local license plates. Michael
  18. Daddyfink, here's a FYI for you; "Perkins has two other complete 427 SOHC engines, both fitted with aluminum heads that became available separately and additional “experimental” gear designed for racecars." This is from the article, so I'll be doing my model with alu heads, they look better. By the way, lots of guys get irritated as well, when someone comes out and constantly wants to correct info that's posted. Me included. If you think there only iron-headed SOHC's, it's OK by me. You don't need to quote me, just write it like the way you see it. Michael
  19. I'd like to second Ace's welcome. I've had a bunch of questions too and Ace has always delivered and helped, he's a valuable source of info. Michael
  20. Thanks Gene. Too bad it was last year, I could've used a couple to put on an empty shelf in the garage. Michael
  21. That is a beauty!
  22. By the way, there was a SOHC motor on eBay, the block is Ford Blue. Aluminum heads and front plate. It's was only $65 K !! Speedfreak posted a story on Questions and Answers here. Michael
  23. OMG! Guys, I had this happen to me during my 2 tone CMG paint job! I was touching up a small area near the door handle with a small paint brush, and paint shoots out of the dang tip!!!! Like it was a stream from an air brush, dark blue paint over a wonderful white body. I thought wtf? I never even bothered to tell anyone, or even ask because I thought for sure I'd be lynched. jwrass, thanks a bunch for telling it like this. I feel better now! Michael
  24. Thanks A.C.! I'll have a look if I can get this kit somewhere. Gene, thanks a bunch for the info! Michael
  25. I'm happy you have nothing more to say about this. I think you were out of line, and since you maintain you were only helping, in my opinion you've lost your credibility as well. You've indeed contributed a lot, this does not mean that you are always right. In recent days I've seen on several topics your entries correcting spelling and things of this nature. When such things are so important to you, perhaps another type of forum would be better for you. Granted, some info from your side is also added, but what remains is the attitude. I hope the new member returns to have a better start. Michael
