Never try to catch a pin vise!
Billy Kingsley replied to Steve H.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ron, that was about the funniest posts I've read in a while, thanks! -
The Mustang is a brand new tool, coming sometime in 2007 or maybe even later this month. There will be others in the series too...

question???
Billy Kingsley replied to MRMopar426's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That blue stuff is nasty, Bob! I used it when I first got into modeling, and the glue just...dissapears in about 2 years. You'll find that you'll be holding them toghter with zip-locks shortly. (The fumes from that are far worse then the "toxic" glue too, you can literally smell it all the way down the street!) Try some Ambroid Pro-Weld. It's easier to use then tube glue, has almost no smell at all (You have to be holding it real close to your face to smell it) and forms better bonds, without strings and stuff. -
With 2007 almost upon us, it's time to think about what we will be chasing after in the new year, also known as, Your "Holy Grail"! I, personally, have been very fortunate as to have been able to aquire most of my "grails", but there are still a few that I would like. #1 on my list is a 59 Edsel kit, it doesn't matter if it's hardtop or convertible, as long as it's unbuilt. I only buy unbuilts, as I do already have a built 59 convertible. I did not buy any true "grails" in 2006, though I did get three kits I had been wanting. (and lo and behold, Dave Burkett is reissuing one next year!) That was the 71-74 Mercury Cyclone NASCAR version. The other two were an AMC Pacer and a Gremlin. Overall in 2006 I bought 153 kits (counts kits I was given as gifts) and 23 Resins or resin conversions. I also bought three promos, bringing my entire collection to...5. 57 of those kits came from a collection I bought, from board member and fellow club member (and good friend) Matt Trotta. 3 of the resins came from that purchase as well. My kit total is down this year, the past two years I've aquired more then 200, which, admittedly, is way way too much! I bought or was given 276 in 2005 and 268 in 2004. Those are the only two years I've fully documented when and where I got things. Though, there is a high likely hood I will get more kits for Christmas, as I have the last...4, I think...years in a row. It's actually pretty much all I asked for this year! I couldn't tell you how many NASCAR decals I got this year. Probably about 250, but that's just a wild guess. I don't keep track of when I get them, just what I have so I don't know for sure, and just estimating. It's probably not more then that, but I did have to get a new case to store them in. I completed 30, and lost track of how many I started. 2006 was my best modeling year ever though! Even though 30 is not my highest number of completions (and there is a slim chance I may finish one more) the quality is the best I've ever turned out, except for two of them that stunk up the joint, LOL. I completed my first resin, I wired and engine for the first time, I got printed in Model Cars for the first time, I scratchbuilt with plastic for the first time and I won an award for the first time. So 2007 has to be pretty good if it wants to top 2006 So, how's about you? :?:

Where to buy paint online?
Billy Kingsley replied to ismaelg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You can buy anything Testors makes directly from the company...However, I'm not sure if you will have any problems not being continental US. I hope not though! I've ordered from them several times, they are very fast shippers. -
question???
Billy Kingsley replied to MRMopar426's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Superglue is way runnier then model glue, boy did I find that out the hard way! I've glued my fingers togther more then once. I've glued them to things as well! Take this car for instance. I glued the rivet hole in the chassis, the super glue ran up the inside of the car, and out the window area, thus gluing my finger to the car and badly fogging the window. This is 1/64 By the way! With Superglue, less is more. Only apply it to one side and don't apply much! It takes longer to "catch" then standard Testors Tube glue, but when it bonds it's way stronger. If you lay on too much it won't stick for a while and it'll look bad. Eventually you can even learn to fill gaps and holes with it, but that takes a bit of practice and skill. Hope that helps! -
general club questions
Billy Kingsley replied to customplassic's topic in Model Club News and Announcements
Joining the TNMCC was the best thing I ever did. I have no doubt in my mind that if I had not done that, I would no longer even BE a model builder! The guys in the club are more like family then most of my blood family! I would rather they WERE family then some of my blood family! Everything I've ever accomplished modelbuilding is because of them. I've learned about a million things and made some friends that I have no doubt will last the rest of my life. And I've only been there since 2002! If you can find a local club, I suggest joining it, or at least visiting. Model Cars usually has near the back of each issue a club contact list, maybe something that isn't 4 hours exists. It's really the best thing I've ever done! http://www.tnmcc.com -
I'm really liking that Ranchero! I really need to get myself one....A green Ranchero, you can't beat that!
-
I'm liking it so far! For three years in a row I built a kit that was exactly 40 years old (keeping in mind I'm only 22) but I honestly don't know if I have the last couple years, I don't think I have. I'm really looking forward to seeing that in green...

What kind of music.....
Billy Kingsley replied to Hot_Rod_Bob's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I forgot, I'm also starting to get into country music. I'm personally boycotting the local country station, as they edit the NASCAR races to see fit, including cutting off the end of one that was on a TV channel I didn't get in 2001. Havn't tuned to it since. (A rainout on Sunday put it on FX on Monday, which we didn't have at the time.) But, as of July this year, I get CMT, so I have been leaving that on alot. It annoys the heck out of me when they go off air from 3-5 AM, as I'm usually awake and watching at that time. The local "Oldies" station was bought recently, and now the oldest thing on local airwaves is from the 90s... -
any one famous ?
Billy Kingsley replied to bob paeth's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've got nothing, I guess I don't go out enough*, but, my mom has been in Jackie Gleason's car, had lunch with Joe Namath and the rest of the team he played for. Visited Walt Disney's house. Met many celbritys I can't remember due to them coming to her grandparents house for dinner, I know Dave DeBusshere of the New York Knicks is the only one I can remember. I'll ask her more. My father's father served in the Battle of the Bulge. There's a very strong chance that I am actually related to Elvis Pressley, though he died before I was born, my family does have ties to the Pressley family in Mississippi. *- I do know lots of famous modelers, either quite well or just from reading posts. But every modeler I've ever met, no matter how well known they are, are so dang humble it's amazing! I've never met a more kind group of people! In the TNMCC we have at least 7 people who have contributed to Model Cars and other magazines. I have Rick Hanmore on my cell-phone speed dial I also have Larry Greenberg programmed in too, but my speed dials got full before I started talking to him on the phone... This may very well be the first footnote used on the board -
What kind of music.....
Billy Kingsley replied to Hot_Rod_Bob's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I mostly listen to whatever is on the radio until it annoys me, then I switch over to 60s car music or Weird Al on CD. Or nothing at all... -
Never try to catch a pin vise!
Billy Kingsley replied to Steve H.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ouch! Whenever I drop something pointy I always try to stay out of it's way wherever it's falling! I once dropped my exacto right onto my foot, luckily I had my shoe on and it bounced right off. I've gotten cut my kit plastic more then anything else. Once got a paper cut on some decals though, and paper cuts hurt! -
I havn't gotten #117 yet, did I miss it? The shop I get it at didn't have it last time I was in. And I've only been able to get there once since Toledo, the Saturday before this most recent one.

Taking pictures of your models
Billy Kingsley replied to Jairus's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
In just two short PMs Jairus taught me how to take better pictures then I had been able to teach myself in several years worth of trying... So much so that with just a little bit of help my photo was able to be used in the Galaxie Limited Ad in Issue #116... Examples: Pre Jairus: Post Jairus: And I will never, EVER take a finished photo indoors again... So, Thanks Jairus! -
That's gonna look GOOD Tom...(although orange would not be my choice personally). Traditional wheels, almost intact chrome...I like it...

Looking for Cobra wheels
Billy Kingsley replied to MonoPed's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I know it probably seems obvious, but there is a Cobra tooling around locally with Cragars and a Chromalusion-like paint and it's probably the most visually appealing one I've ever seen. -
Welcome! That bubble top is awesome...

Help with a painting question
Billy Kingsley replied to Daniel Peterson's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've heard a coat of silver should stop bleed through... -
An idea I picked up from, I think it was VW Dave ( a poster on here who doesn't post much) that when he does it, he has two bodys. One, he cuts the whole section out and saves the door, the second, the door is a loss but the rest of the body is perfect. I've yet to try this, but it sounds like it'll work great.

Just a Microreview as it's basically the same as the convertible, but WOW...I had a pleasent surprise when I opened the kit! What is not mentioned anywhere on the box, or anywhere else that I have seen, as that the tailgate/hatch/trunk (whatever you want to call it) Actually opens! The body has the same basic construction as the Convertible kit (one of my favorite new tools in quite some time) in that the side panels of the body are two seperate pieces. Unlike the Coupe, however, the rear panel that holds the taillights, liscence plate and whathaveyou is a seperate piece, which is topped off with the opening trunk/rear hatch, to reveal a nicely texured trunk area!! I was very pleased with that when I opened it, especially because it was a complete surprise to me. I believe the body is the only thing that has changed from the convertible, but I've not opened more then just the body bags yet, all the interior/engine/suspension parts are waiting for a later date. I didn't even know this kit was out yet. I can't wait to begin building it, I'm going to make mine red. The copy in the instructions are really quite nice as well, they harken back to the era when Dean Milano was doing them, and they AREN'T filled with a bunch of copywright info!

Johan Is Back
Billy Kingsley replied to Stevearado's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Bill, Okey does have a few of them, but I wouldn't think he'd be selling them on eBay. He's not a big fan of computers. I bought one from him at one of the shows I've been to, but I can't remember which one! I'm thinking MASSCAR '05... I'm afraid to paint it though... -
