  1. See you then Anthony! John, the snow/rain may cause a little bit of trouble for us too. We are headed up Thursday, or at least that was the plan. It's supposed to be snowing all day through Conneticut and here and Mass, and mom doesn't really want to drive through that (I don't drive). So, we may end up going Tomorrow or we may end up going Friday...We shall see.
  2. The show is at the Taunton Holiday Inn in Taunton Mass. and Saturday night they have a pizza party/trivia contest that I think is the best part of the weekend. I will be there and taking all the photos this time. I'll actually know what I was doing, unlike last year which still somehow managed to be good enough to get two pages in issue #121!
  3. Sorry, I don't! The Days of Thunder car wouldn't have had it anyway. It would have had the movie character's name.
  4. Thanks guys! Matt, you may be more prophetic then you think on the PE pins.... Carl, the paint I used was a RC paint called Dark Yellow by Hanger 9. It takes forever to dry, about double Testors Enamel! Seems to take all kinds of clear. I've put Tamiya, Testors Enamel and Testors Lacquer over it. Warning, does not react well with Ambroid ProWeld!
  5. Mike is simply one of the best aftermarket vendors that exist. You won't go wrong ordering with Mike!
  6. My latest completion. My first 2006 build. I've still never finished a NASCAR model in the year it ran, LOL. Almost box-stock, about the only thing I did was open the cowl vent. I won't be doing any more of that, the plastic there is so thin it bends too easily and while I did bend it back, it's still got a little curve. I'll just paint the area black. The tire decals were the first time I ever used PowerSlide from Mike. I loved the movie and had to build this. I would like to build the 5 and 10 as well, at some point. I could have done a better job on the build, though. Thanks for looking!
  7. Larry, I can honestly say that is the only blog I've ever read...and will continue to read. It was great to see you again, talk to you soon
  8. That looks great. That is so far the only Tamiya kit I've finished too (I started a Porsche 959 that waits for me to get back to it) and it's such a fun kit to build. Looks great in red! Here is the link to mine, in it's own album: http://public.fotki.com/ElCaminoBilly/indi...s/1966vwbeetle/
  9. have to apologize for the crappyness of this build. It just kind of stinks. I started it back in summer of 2004....which is when I first started building NASCAR models, and I just didn't know what I was doing. I finished it in January 2007. To add insult to injury, it got a little beat up in the time it took me to start and decal it, in 04, to now. The paint is Model Master Lacquer (MML) Tropical Turquiose, and the decals are Blue Ridge. Cherry Run provided some contingencys. Kit is entirely box-stock. I used Shabo dry transfers on the tires for the first....and only...time. I had heard how good they were  so I decided to give them a try. I will never use them for a NASCAR build again. I will probably build a better version of this sometime in the future...
  10. Finished this one up RIGHT before I left for New Jersey for the NNL East. This is my tribute to the late Bobby Hamilton....Standard Revell-Monogram kit, built as I usually do...but, the first of my builds with a little extra detail. I added a Modern Motorsports Earnhardt bar, I know I could...and have....made my own but it's not very much fun so I just bought them in bulk, lol. (21 of 'em!). I drilled out the holes where the spring posts go....I can't recall who gave me that tip, but from now on I will be doing that with ALL my 2002ish and older builds. I didn't break a post like I usually do, PLUS, it gives a rudimentary working rear suspension. The interior was sprayed and I actually painted the interior of the body...Something I didn't really do but am doing now, and will continue to do. Decals were Slixx, and I can honestly say, they stunk. Surprised me how bad they were. The red has absolutely horrible bleed through, it really makes the numbers look bad, in particular. They are almost completly translucent. The decals also had a tendancy to shatter, which was annoying but not unfixable. The top grill is a Slixx goodie sheet item, and the bottom grill the same from JWTBM. I attempted wheel weights for the first time. They aren't as good as most, they are just silver paint, but it's an attempt at improvement and that has to count for something Another build coming....
  11. Maybe next year you can come yourself!!
  12. Great to meet you Andy...Sorry I didn't have a chance to get back and get one of those dune buggys...I guess I will have to order one when I order the Firebird III...
  13. WOW! The NNL East is over and done with, and while I hate that that is true, I don't think my back, legs and feet could handle any more right now...LOL. I'm beat, I tells ya! As usual, the Tri-State guys put on a WONDERFULL show. In was smooth, flawless, perfect, etc, I could keep going until I run out of abjectives. This was, believe it or not, my 7th NNL East. I know I talked to way, way too many people to try to list, but I had fun talking to all of you! I probably talked to more too that I didn't even realize, as I was working the show for the third time and this time my duties included handing out show flyers (which I realized when I got home, I didn't keep one! ACK! That makes it the first year I don't have one for ) and I also collected registration slips. I didn't have time to read them or else I may have realized I missed people. I had so much fun, I think it was my favorite NNL East I've been to. I hated to leave. I'm really wiped out right now and am kind of in a fog, so I'll leave you with some pics and a link to my album My NASCAR Builds...With the chrome car on the right and the Bobby Hamilton car I finished Thursday night on the left...I had 12 total and 7 of them were NASCAR... Best in show winning diorama Some test shots from Revell....I took detailed parts layout shots of the Mercury, which you can find on the link...I have some Lindberg test shots photographed there too! This was done on a Computer....New from Scale MotorSport! Looking down on the show from the stage, near the end. Steve was waiting to take pictures of the award winners. Here's the link to the rest of them... http://public.fotki.com/ElCaminoBilly/mode.../nnl-east-2007/
  14. I be stopping to get one at the LHS on the way to New Jersey tomorrow....I hope he has it, sometimes he's a little slow...Can't wait to get it, thanks for the heads up that it's out!
  15. Thanks guys! Nope, it qualified...There was also a silver, non-chrome version, I am not sure THAT one qualified... Steve, not really, Jim Smith's equipment was so lousy he pretty much was just field filling...Maybe if he was in contention for the lead, maybe...
  16. I've still got mine, Gregg...I'm gonna have 5 tags this year...Yikes!!! Hey, don't forget us NASCAR builders!!
  17. My latest completion. First time I've really completed anything since October, before Toledo...Feels good to be back in the swing of things! Anyway, about the build. I had Robert at Chrome-Tech USA plate the body for me...I had never had anything plated before so I was taking a little bit of a risk having this done....but I am glad I did. Robert has a customer for life! Other then that, it's built standard box-stock. The decals were 3 Amigos and unfortunatly they cracked in a few places, Most notably the roof number. That was a bummer, especially since I don't have any paint that would not make it look worse if a touchup was attempted. I was a little worried that the decals would not stick to the chrome plated body, but Robert assured me they would and boy, he wasn't kidding! I think the decals actually adhered to the chrome body better then a painted body. One "adjustment" I did make was that I didn't use the 3 Amigos contingencys. The set for the left side shattered into about 8 pieces so I discarted them and placed each seperate contingincy seperatly, using contingencys from the JWTBM 2004 Contingency sheet. That took about 4 hours to do...Tedious, but well worth it. This is the first Ted Musgrave car I've completed....I've been a big fan of Ted's since 1994 and have plans to eventually build all his Cup cars...I ended up starting with the last one! The car is incredibly, incredibly hard to keep clean. It picks up fingerprints even if you've just finished washing your hands. I spend more time removing fingerprints then anything else with it! It also does not photograph well. It's one you literally have to see to believe. It'll be at the NNL East, this was my Secret Project that I talked about, but never really tried to keep secret. Well...One of them anyway  Enjoy the pics!
  18. Both....I have plans to build most, but some of them I bought simply because I wanted them, with no real plans to build them. For instance, I have the first issue of the AMT 59 El Camino and 53 Ford F-100, and going back to the second issue of the 65 El Camino. I don't have any plans to actually build them, but those kits, or cars, are special to me so I bought them anyway. Most will probably be built, but who knows when? I seem to aveage about 25-30 builds a year, sometimes more sometimes less. At the end of 2005, when I built 48 models, I estimated it would take me 44 years to build my entire stash, but I havn't built that many since! I've been putting more effort into each indivigual build and thus, taking more time to complete them.
  19. I've just registered, and while I don't have much in the way of excess funds right now, I will certainly see what I can come up with to buy and possibly even sell
  20. You need more wrapping material! I know it's tied to the base, but you want the entire case to be full...When I took my models to Toledo last year, an 11 hour one way boucy road trip, I had them wrapped in paper towel, inside and upside down AMT display case. There was no damage whatsoever! (Until I was setting them up and broke part off with my clutzy hand)
  21. I learned long ago that you can't use ALL the BMF. The edges of the sheet don't have any adhesive on them at all it seems...Never did any precise measuring but I would say give yourself at the very least an inch around all 4 sides of the BMF...
  22. I'll be there...who is also going to the NNL Eats on Friday night?
