We hope to be on the road before the sun comes up! Look for me! We've got this nice Lincoln Town Car as our rental... and it's packed and ready to go! I've got 9 models to bring, more then half of which are NASCAR! The bad thing (?) Is that we may be without Internet access for a few days, up to possibly 2 weeks...Won't know until we get there. If I am posting like normal then we have net, but if I dissapear, that's why!

This based almost completly on the Atlanta Golden Corral 500 winner. I detailed the front valence before I thought to look at the photos of it, so that is the only real diffrence from the car to the model. The real one was red tape. There are a couple of firsts for me on this one. First, I tried the grill tape, which is a piece of Tamiya masking tape painted the same color as the body, and second, I used a Moden Motorsports roof cam for the first time. Since the Atlanta winner had a cam, I used BMF to make the silver stripe. I cut three pieces before I got it right. Third, although not technically a first, is I opened the cowl area where the air gets into the engine. I had done it on Fords before but never a Chevy, so it's kind of a first I also cut apart and re arranged some of the contingencys...I won't do that again....I'll use aftermarket indiviguals in the future! I'm mad at two things on it...one, the most obvious, is that the D part in Bud that goes on the cowl is crooked, and two, is that I super glued the front suspension, then went to work on other subassemblys (specifically, the engine) but I didn't pay close attention, and it had popped off...but...only a little bit, and the super glue dried in a way that one of the front wheels is off the ground. This was just a box of white plastic Monday morning, and I finished it last night...I'm very happy with the overall turnout and I am bringing it to Toledo with me. It is the first time I tried to replicate an actual race winner, and it is the 57th NASCAR model I have built. I got inspired by looking at dalejr.com...Dale has been one of my favorite drivers since 1998, but this is the first good model of his I have built! Thanks and enjoy the pictures! This is very small, this is the best picture I could get.

October 06 TNMCC Meeting PICS
Billy Kingsley replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in Model Club News and Announcements
Right on Craig, that's Vince's Overhaulin project. He adapted a 60 Starliner interior to the old Johan Mopar, and is mastering a 57 Buick, too! We miss having you as a regular member as well! You should have the next newsletter by this time next week, I just created it about 5 minutes ago -
Kind of a small meeting last night. I only got 15 pictures...I would have taken more indivigual pictures of each model, but I didn't think to change my camera battery before we left, so I didn't have much juice left...almost didn't get the shots I did, luckily, I had a 3rd battery (?) I don't know why only one, and I was able to change that out and get the rest of the shots, with the low battery warning on the screen the whole time! Since I took so few pictures, ( a record low since I got Fotki) I'll just post them all. Bob Pettine drove his 1960 Rambler to the meeting...it was getting kind of dark so it's hard to see, but it's a real beuty. Don't see many Ramblers in this nice of shape in the Northeast! My work. Some of it anyway. The Janet Guthrie car mentioned in my signature is there in primer, the green Monte is out of the box just for comparison to show the work I did. The Johnny Rutherford #13 was completed since the last meeting, and the 2004 Dale Jr. car, the red one, was a box of white plastic 12 hours earlier. May even finish that one today. I love lacquer, I painted it at 5:30 PM, and it was dry enough to bring to the meeting, which started at 7 PM! The modified is an old build from 2004, which I brought to show the modified guys who hadn't ever seen it, as I finished it before they joined the club. It's going to be giving up it's display case soon, and I wanted to bring it before that. The three 1/64 cars are all my work as well, the Kurt Busch Crown Royal is my best one, the Bill Elliott Burger King is my newest one, and the Ted Musgrave Sirius one was entirely BMFd, the hardest thing I've ever done in modeling! 1/64 NASCAR is actually my primary hobby, NOT models. Also visible is the box of the Model King truck I bought. My Sedan Delivery and the Model Cars Magazine Galaxie Limited ad it appears in. These will both be at Toledo, probably (if there is enough space) sitting the exact same way, with my info card and entry sheet over page #30. My greatest modeling achievement! My 1/64 cars. In progress in 1993 Jimmy Means and 2006 Boris Said. Bob Pettine's work Mike Callan is using the same kit I did for my Janet Guthrie car for this Monte. Dan Marks brought his 53 Ford pickup and Ranchero race truck A whole bunch of work, by Vince LoBosco, Edgar Valdivia and new guy Bo, whose last name I did not catch. Bo's work, he said that the silver car is a replica of a friend's car, and the white car is a replica of a car he used to own. Edgar is converting a 53 Ford into a 54 Packard! Steve Glave brought two 32 Fords, which is not only next year's NNL East theme but also our club theme as well (The NNL East announcement is what made us choose it for ours, too) The car in primer will eventually be the yellow car he photographed. Herb Hoskins brought some of his modified work...Unfortunatly the picture blurred The Frankie Schnieder car took him only 4 days to build. Ron Wiessinger found this in his attic! Ron also brought in some of his vintage kit collection for us to look at. Only the two 1940 Fords are built, the rest are unbuilt, and, save the El Camino, pristene! The El Camino was started when he got it, and it's the original 1965 issue of the kit. Thanks for looking!

My latest completion: 1969 Pontiac Firebird
Billy Kingsley replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks so much guys...This car has gotten way more positive responce then I expected... -
This is my latest completion. I actually finished it in Lake George, almost 3 weeks ago, but I have not gotten the chance to photograph it until yesterday. It is the AMT kit that was just issued recently. I believe it may have been an MPC kit at one point though. The paint is Tamiya Mica Red and the kit is box stock, although, I did drill a hole in the chassis to make the front sit lower to the ground. Thank you and enjoy the pictures! Unfortunatly I messed up when painting the door handle, I was just holding it at an odd angle, and it ruined the whole side of the car, IMO I didn't bring any Pontiac Engine blue with me, so I went with my stand by for customs, hot rods and whathaveyou, gold, for the engine. I have been experimenting with BMFing the scripts before paint, and it worked well, even if it did not photograph well. Thanks!

New to the forum
Billy Kingsley replied to mhadman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I wondered when you'd get here Mark...LOL...Welcome! -
I really would liked to have been there, but I just couldn't make it...Maybe next year. Instead of going to that show, or the Cape Cod show, or anywhere interesting at all, I spent more then 20 hours over three days working in the basement, getting covered in dust and other unfun things, going through ###### that hasn't been touched since 1995, or earlier, the farther back I got. Good news is, after Toledo I will finally have a permanent workspace. I also found the remains of an old model I had done with my dad, long long ago. Had forgotten about it until I saw it. Also found some old family photos dating to the 1800s (!) I will scan the ones with old cars soon...there are a few.

Very nice! Also nice to see another NASCAR posted that wasn't by me!!

Shows this weekend
Billy Kingsley replied to Wildrice's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Also this weekend is the Cape Cod show, and the Gilbertsville show. I don't know if I will be able to make either. -
From the Show/Contest: Bill Gent's Best of Show Large Scale Modified (with my Fireball Roberts car behind it) I have to admit, this was my favorite model there Toaster Pete Morkovin's People's Choice Award winner Didn't see who built it From the Host Club Display (which also happens to be the club I belong to, the TNMCC!) Modified Diorama by Jim Molloy and Herb Hoskins My Sunday display (On Saturday I brought only one car, as last year we didn't have enough room for any more! We had less entrys this year) I also had my one and only Modified on the Diorama, but to see that you'll have to click into the album! The Brick Dart by Tom Mach Our Club Logo car Just some of what Rick Hanmore brought The work of Jim McNamara, who'se car can be seen in the Show Coverage post! There are 99 pictures total. Come and see the rest here!

I didn't get to see much of the show, I spent most of the time I was there on Saturday and Sunday at the model display, but I did get the chance to grab 117 pictures. This show is never as good as the Adirondack Nationals anyway, and many of the same vehicles were there, as that was just last weekend. Enjoy the pictures I did take, and the model show pics are on the way! This Hudson was in the Parking lot... Friend and fellow TNMCC member Jim McNamara has owned this car for 18 years... What's a Henway? LOL! I wonder how often that was heard at the show... The Rest of the pictures can be found by clicking on this sentance!

Toledo Roll Call
Billy Kingsley replied to Tom Kren's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I will be there, as usual, at the Red Roof Inn... -
At Rhinebeck NY at the Goodguys East Coast Nationals at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds. There will be space for models on Sunday as well but the show itself is tomorrow, Saturday!
-
This was, by far, the most fun I've ever had at the Nationals. I took more pictures then ever before as well (373 are in the album, however, some were taken by my mom and brother, I took #1,2 and 13-373.) I also think I got the best pictures I've ever taken at this show, my favorite. Here are some of my favorite photos, and a link to the rest... Thanks for looking and enjoy the photos! http://public.fotki.com/ElCaminoBilly/real...knationals2006/

Testors Custom Automotive Laquers
Billy Kingsley replied to 93Z34's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
The MML is, in my opinion, the BEST paint available for modelers. I just spent about $70 on it Wednesday at Racing City. I wish I could get it closer, because it is probably the only paint I would use. I also wish they had more diffrent colors, too... -
Finished: 1963 Johnny Rutherford Yunick Impala
Billy Kingsley replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks so much guys! Ray, the paint is simply Tamiya black and gold with Model Master Lacquer (MML) clear on top... -
Hello everybody.
Billy Kingsley replied to Mark Jeffries's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Mark, glad to see you here! I didn't realize you'd only been building for 8 years!! I've been building for 8 years as well, and my work pales in comparison to yours -
FINALLY completed this one!! Been at this a long time, and it's finally done! Not quite right, but I'm happy with it! Some History: Johnny Rutherford won his first career start in the 1963 Twin 100, which, at the time, counted in the official stats. It was the ONLY win in NASCAR history for a car #13 and, I am pretty sure, Smokey Yunick's last Grand National win, but I may be wrong. The kit is the old Model King issue 63 Impala, with all the trim removed. I actually gutted the interior (it's itself partially scratchbuilt) and I used a Plastic Performance Products cage, with parts of that also scratchbuilt. The wheels and tires are Modelhaus. Decals are DSAO, with the Gray Rock Contingency coming from Fred Cady. JWTBM provided the chrome hood and trunk pins. Refrence was provided by Hugh Boulden and this build would NOT have been possible without his help. The only color photo I've seen of this car came from him, and he helped me with the cage and decal placement. I didn't know that the roof only said "John Rutherford" until he sent me a shot of it. Thanks a bunch my friend! I am not happy with the paint, it bubbled on me several times and I just went with it at the end. I also got the roof scratched, unfortunatly. The contingencys are correct, but there are more on the real car that I was not able to make out in the picture, so I left them off. The hood should also read HP, not CI, but no big deal there, the paint is too poor to worry about it. It won't win any awards, but it was definitly a learning experience, alot of scratchbuilding went into it and it will make my next Darkside era cars much better...I already have another 63 Chevrolet in the works. Enjoy the photos and thanks for reading! Sorry for the photo quality, the sky was not cooperating with me, stupid clouds, LOL.
