Post your junkers and beaters here!
Billy Kingsley replied to Casey429's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I doubt this is the actual intention of the thread, but something like that has never stopped me from showing off my old ###### before, so why start now Coming to you Straight from the Hall of Shame (seriously, that's an album on my Fotki...) This one sat undusted on my shelf for 3 years. When I tried to dust it, it took a fall off my book case, then it sat some more. Then took approximatly 2 more falls before I tried to put it back toghter. By that point parts were missing and it had been too damaged to fix. I have another in the stash that should be started by this time next year (it's too late in the year to say this year, LOL) This one fell apart because I was trying to be "healty" and use that Testors Lemon glue, AKA, non toxic. Came apart less then a month after completion. Switched back to the "toxic" glue by then! This one could be saved if I could find all the pieces. This one died when I dropped a Diecast 57 Nomad on top of it. Looking back on it, that was probably a good thing. This was my 8th model, and my first attempt at opening something (the trunk). I wouldn't succeed until my 4th try I never was able to finish this Studebaker. The dang thing drove me nutty. So I boxed it up and it's now in my storage unit. It's a shame as I really love Studebakers too. Someday I will buy another and do it right. Hopefully with my current skills I will be able to at least finish it. My second attempt at opening panels. (don't fear, the chassis and interior will go to finish a 69 that I was given as body-only!) What's left of my second model. Sorry for the poor picture, it was taken with my cell phone camera. I don't know what happened here. After this photo was taken I found more parts, though, and I think it MIGHT be saveable! This poor Lindberg Cord was in better shape until I was holding it and a spider crawled out of it. Both went flying and the Cord did not survive the landing. I REALLY hate spiders. This was once a Firebird. My worst two builds of all time. These are so horrible. I knew where they were for more then a year before I photographed them. Both of them were so bad, they "Drove off a Cliff". If a model comes out badly enough, I push it off my workbench repeatedly until parts no longer fly off. The 99 Silverado took 6 times, the 50 pickup 7. The only good thing I can say about this Silverado is that it was the first thing I ever decaled (nessicary for NASCAR modeling!) although, the decals aren't where they are supposed to be, at least they are on there! (note the tailagate) I have nothing good to say about this truck. Nothing nothing nothing. After failing boxstock, it became a drag racer...sort of. I had absolutly NO talent for building when I started... You will never see me build a junker on purpose. My family has owned too many in 1:1 for them to be interesting to me, LOL. (my dad would never spend more then $400 for a car) -

When the LHS starts carring 1/64 NASCARs and Testors Acrylics will be the last day I ever visit Walmart... Still the only place I have ever seen a rat that was not in a zoo or a pet. -
For VW Dave
Billy Kingsley replied to Tuffy's Garage's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The one on the far right looks more squished then chopped Dave.... Never had a Beetle in the family but my dad drove a 85 Quantum for years (about 95-02 when he died) and had an 83 Rabbit before that. I've got pics (well, A Pic of each) if anybody wants to see them. (Though I think both were posted in the Family Cars thread in the Refrence section) -
Who would you like to meet?
Billy Kingsley replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've been INCREDIBLY lucky in my short time in the hobby, I've met so many people. Rick Hanmore is one of the best friends I've ever had in my life. I've been in Larry Greenberg's car. I would say that Bill Geary is a good friend. I finally got to meet Bill Coulter and Tim Boyd recently. Two people I wanted to meet for a while. I guess who I most want to meet is Jerry Sims. Known to most as Luke57, I have learned more about vintage NASCAR from him then any other source in the world, and he's been a good freind since I got into the hobby. Other people I want to meet: Hugh Boulden, Bill Little III, Terry Anderson, Tom Mooty, Mike Clements (The "Darkside Cabal" with others, whose full names I do not know, on Randy's NASCAR board) Dean Milano, Mark S. Gustavson, Jairus Watson (October, right Jairus?) Hollywood Jim Fernandez, Terry Jessee, Danny Tarpley, Tom Daniel, Juha Airo, John Dezan, Jeff Corey, and the list goes on. I've been so lucky to meet so many people. The NNL Easts and Nationals bring out so many of the legends of the hobby, I've had the opportunity to meet so many people. And of cource, the first person I ever actually MET in person in the hobby was Almonte, at the 2001 NNL East. Nothing more needs to be said about Al The second person I ever met in the hobby was Gregg. He had no clue who I was, I am sure, but that didn't stop me from introducing myself and shaking his hand. One of the greatest things about this hobby, more then any others, really, is that the Living Legends are more then willing to talk and even befriend a nobody like me. -

Bare Metal Foil
Billy Kingsley replied to promoman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Bill, you volunteer to BMF other people's stuff? Wow! I've got a 59 Caddy project planned I can bring to Toledo It's funny...BMF is all in the mindset I believe. Sometimes I enjoy BMFing. Sometimes I want to take a big old sledgehammer and whack whatever I am working on. The calmer I am when I do BMF, the better it comes out. When I started the 59 Rambler wagon, it was ok and I was calm. Cool. The whole deal. The longer I worked at it, the more frustrated I got and the worse it looked. Then I bubbled the clearcoat on the car and messed it all up. Luckily it's not too bad on both sides. What I do is cover the entire area with BMF and them trim away what shouldn't be there. I ALWAYS make sure it's down properly over the area before I trim it. The aforementioned 59 Rambler wagon was tough. The entire length of the side of the car was one big BMF panel. I learned to make the breaks at doorlines, which I did on the 57 Chevys and the left side of the Rambler. Fender rims are especially tough. I think I wasted a full 3rd of a BMF sheet on the 70 Bonneville I did, and it didn't even come out great. The hardest thing I ever BMFd was a full 1/64 car. The car ran a chrome body, so I had to BMF it. It took 35 pieces of BMF to cover the entire car body. I'd post a picture of both the Rambler and the Ted Musgrave car, but Fotki is having some issues today. Maybe a little later it will work. -
And is now in the possesion of it's rightful owner, Mike Clements. I took on a rare commission build, after much convincing by Mike, to do this one. I don't really think my work is good enough to do commisson builds...yet...but Mike didn't agree so I did it. It's not my best work, but it's pretty good. I had some perplexing issues with it. For one, the decals silvered. I don't know why, I've never had that on Tamiya paint before and the paint was fully cured (sat for three weeks) but the longer it sits the better it seems to get. I've also never painted blue over red before. I didn't know how it would work, but it came out great. Better then I could have imagined, actually. Decals are Slixx and were usual. I could not get the white pinstripe on whatsoever. I tried it but I hope Mike doesn't mind that it's missing. I had only one decal shred on me too, the Hawaiin Punch for the rear end. Luckily, the decals had options. I had to take some creative liscense as I had no real refrence for the location of Punchy, so I just put him where I thought he would be. The kit is basic box-stock+, in that I lowered the rear suspension. The tires came from the collection I bought from Matt Trotta, the second time I have used tires from Matt's collection. To tell you how long I've been making Mike wait for it, I painted it during a commercial break in the Indy 500, and that was the second color! Enjoy the pictures! Unfortunatly, I forgot to dust the chassis before photographs  The plan was to do matching cars and photograph them toghther before I mailed off Mike's but mine was just driving me nutty, so I set it aside. The car in the back is Mike's but the chassis my car is on is the one Mike now has. I have both chassis done, and selected the best one to mail. Sorry the picture isn't great. I have a better lighted one but it's blurry.

Weren't those all Buyer's Choice a few years ago? I know the Chevelle Wagon and Willys were. I bought and built one of each of those two back before I became a good modeler...the Wagon was brush painted and the Willys left bare plastic. I think I need to head to WM soon. -
2008 Dodge Challenger
Billy Kingsley replied to FASTBACK340's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm liking the new Challenger. I will build that one if a kit comes out..I hope it does. I actually toyed with the idea of buying a 1:1 new Mustang but decided I'd rather wait and get a classic instead. I wouldn't touch the new Camaro with a 10 foot clown pole. It's the most hideous thing Chevy has done in years, IMO. Almost on par with the Aztek. Almost. I don't plan to buy the kit of the concept car either. -

I just bought another Revell 66 GTO yesterday, which as you may or may not know, was the 4th kit I ever built back in 1999. This is only the second copy I have so I want it to look good. The kit I got had only three tires (not a good day for tires for me!) and they are just not "right" looking with nothing at all on the sidewalls, thanks to Goodyear, I guess. Where would I be able to suitable tires for it? I don't seem to have any suitable Muscle Car tires in my tire stash! I plan to paint it Testors Metallic teal, as one year at the Adirondack Nationals in Lake George a freindly couple stayed at the motel we stay, and they had a metallic teal 66 GTO and I've always remembered it. I'm not averse to resin tires either...

I bought this at the hobby shop yesterday....it was open, from a collection they had taken in a few years ago. I had been debating buying it for almost a year and I finally broke down and bought it. I did a quick scan of the contents before I took it home, but, I scanned it too quickly. I didn't get any tires! So, I'm now needing a set of tires!! If anyone could help, I'd be eternally gratefull. I'm also looking for information on the kit. It's from Imai, but there is no copywright information so I have no clue when it's from. I keep track of my collection based on kit numbers and issue dates so right now I'm kind of at a loss on how to list it. I would venture a guess that it's late 80s or early 90s...The decals almost look Cartograph quality. If I can find tires, I will build it! It looks pretty straightforward, and it looks like fun too. It's molded in yellow but has alot of chrome and some black too. The instructions are entirely in Japanese, so I'll be on my own for building it...it doesn't look too diffacult though. The instructions show a motorized engine and working lights, which I think think my kit has either. I know it has no engine, but that's ok as I wouldn't use it anyway. HELP!!

Very cool! I built one of them a long time ago...Only paint I used was on the figures...Came out terrible...It's in my Fotki if anyone cares to look....I don't want to drag down this thread with my build photo...

Looking good. I love that kit. It was the first I ever built back in 1999 when I was 15. I sure wish they would reissue it again. I would go with Citrus Yellow if it were my build
