  1. I think he means pictures that we take...I take about 400 1:1 car show pics a year, or more.... You can see all them and other stuff here: http://public.fotki.com/ElCaminoBilly/real_cars/ Jairus, did you get the email I sent you? I sent it to you and Gregg but Gregg's came back to me.
  2. That's an awesome gift!!
  3. Finished this one up just yesterday. Almost box stock kit, I rearranged the rear suspension to get it to sit lower. Of cource, that makes the nose look to high, so I will work on that the next time. I see two possible ways to lower the front, and I will experiment with them both and or a combination of the two-next time. Kit decals, it is the second half of Monogram's "Rookie of the Year Combo"...I finished the first half (85 Ken Schrader) in April of 05...and I started this the same day! The tires came in the collection I bought from Matt Trotta, I didn't feel like detailing any so I just used some that I got from him. Paint is Testors Yellow and black, with a red interior, which I actually spray painted! I almost made a few glaring mistakes on this one, but I checked my refrences (the book NASCAR Chronicle by Greg Fielden and the 1986 yearbook) and discovered that the window trim was black, and so was the net. I almost BMFd the trim and left the net red! This one's been in progress since April 05, after the disaster that was the Ken Schrader car from the two-pack, I didn't want to touch this one, but I finally decided to give it a try, again, and it came out pretty good! I wish I hadn't decaled it so long ago, though....The decal work is not great, and I could have done a better job of it now, then I did then.
  4. Finished this up about a week ago, but had to wait for the sun to actually come out before I could take some shots of it... Kit was molded in a weird metallic blue (can be seen on the wheelbacks) but I painted it MML Royal Blue under clear. The interior is Krylon Short Cuts "Forever Blue" and that's a very odd paint to work with. I would say that it's not quite gloss, but not quite semi-gloss. It's also textured. The engine was wired, as was detailed not long ago. It was the first time I've EVER done that. I also cut off and raised the front spindles, but I could have done a better job on that. That was also the first time I had ever done that.
  5. I like the black one. I don't know much about Ferraris but I know they look good. I have to get going on my neon green Enzo. You know, just to be diffrent
  6. Rex, Ray, you guys are too kind. That Imperial is actually much worse then it looks in the pictures...sometimes, poor lighting works well! :)If I took it out into the sunlight, you would be able to see the problems with it... The others in there are the paint rejects...Thing is, I don't strip anything...I have enough other things to build, I don't need to worry about them!
  7. I have a couple reasons for me, but the biggest one is a blunder on it, usually self inflicted...I have a whole album of Projects I will Probably Never Finish and also the Hall of Shame, which is similar but not the same. (If you go to the Hall of shame, that means that the Projects is dead, never going to be touched again, where I MAY finish the others) Many of my Probably Not builds, are that was due to the paint job, done poorly..I don't strip anything. http://public.fotki.com/ElCaminoBilly/neverfinishprojects/ This Elliott Sadler car was the first time I ever used Slixx decals...but, the original plan was to use kit decals...unfortunatly, I didn't know the kit decals were garbage so I had to use Slixx...But...Slixx did not provide the nose brown, where Revell did, so, that was pretty much what killed this one. The yellow is also too light, I should have used Testors yellow, as the car is a little bit darker then my build... There are a couple that I brush painted the bodys on, when that was all I knew how to do, but now I don't want to finish them because they are not up to my current standards...Took pictures of some of them but are blurry. http://public.fotki.com/ElCaminoBilly/the_hall_of_shame/ This Studebaker Avanti is actually pretty far along, but it has been fighting me the ENTIRE time I worked on it...I started in in 2000 or 01 (I have it written down somewhere, it was before I kept track of my projects on Excel!) I just gave up on this one afer all the trouble it gave me, so it's done. I was originally going for factory stock, but that didn't work so I tried drag. That didn't work, either. Note the brush painted gold body, too... Of cource, the real answer as to why I don't finish a model: Time & Other Projects! I have about 150-200 projects in progress, varying from painted bodys, painted and decaled bodys, all the way up to cars that are near complete. I'm trying to focus on just a few though, instead of working on and doing a little tiny bit on a bunch of diffrent models, therefore making no progress on any of them, really. The only time I am going to do that is when I have to do puttying, which I don't really enjoy but have to do... I am also trying to start less projects...(and buy less)...I just love spray painting so much! Summer will kill both painting and building for me though, I can't stand heat and humidity, so AC doesn't go off in the summer.
  8. I hope you have a good one Charlie and everybody else!
  9. It's much, MUCH easier to use the thumbnail view from your Fotki...that's what I do on all my PHP based boards. EZ Board doesn't care what size your avitar picture is, it puts it into a thumbnail sized square no matter what, but it can make for some odd warpage issues. For instance, the thumbnail view is clearly shown in my avitar. This is the regular size version. Notice the thumbnail also kept the white background, instead of making it clear, like the full size. That's why an animated avitar has to be the right size beforehand.
  10. VERY very cool!! The Wing cars are my all time favorites, and that looks great, like it could have been real. I love how you only have one wing on it, too...I see so many done up with two, which totally detracts from the look, to me...
  11. Thanks guys! You can do it Bill!! If anyone can, it's you! Ken, I'll build pretty much anything!! Later this year I have 2 new ones planned for me: Brass Era car and, well, a big old truck! LOL. I got the Mack DM800 from Dave at the NNL East last year and by gosh I'm going to build the thing! A few years ago it was mostly all Chevys I did, in fact I still have more built Chevys in my collection then anything else! (54 Chevys vs. 51 NASCARs) I've got two more NASCARs and one more Chevy planned to be finished before I take my summer modeling break...I needs my AC!!
  12. Thanks guys! Jairus, no they are not, they are just bent. When I post the completed one in a few days you will see it better...Things are flexible and I didn't notice that until it was posted already.
  13. I finished this one up last night. This is the one I'm in desperate need of a taillight for! It just doesn't look right with only one! It's funny...all this time, I knew the Ramblers existed, but I couldn't have been able to pick one out of a crowd. But now, after building this one, I've grown to really love the little car! I lowered it by flipping the chassis pan (it's a curbside) and then, lowered it even more but cutting the posts that the pan screwed into and trimming the same posts off the bumper. I also had to BMF most of the rear bumper due to the excessive flash on it. (It IS a Johan, LOL!) I robbed the wheels and tires from the Model King issue 63 Impala from 94 or so. They fit onto the kit axles, though I did have to modify all 4 wheels to make them fit. The paint is MML Light Toreador Red with clearcoat that came out good on the hood roof and tailgate but nasty on the doors, the right side in particular. I tried to do it when it was too windy, and it messed me up. I should have known better!! Overall a REALLY fun build, that totally changed my outlook on the car. I had originally purchased this just to help out Okey...and I'm Very glad I did.
  14. With special thanks to Ray Buck, here it is. My very first ever attempt at wiring an engine! I printed out one of the diograms Ray sent me and went to work. I used a Parts by Parks PreWired distributer and a tiny drill I found in my parts box, I think made by Exacto or Testors. The engine in my Revell-Monogram 57 Nomad became my test car, and it turned out really nicely I think. It's not done in these pictures, but it should be completion #202 tomorrow. I didn't know where to put the coil, or what to do with the left over cord, so I improvised. The fact that it's a custom let me do that with no worrys. Here's a bonus shot of the Nomad, taken before Clearcoat
  15. Dean, that is indeed the one I have! I didn't know there was another version...I will have to find one. I'm not sure what scale this one is. It's not 1/43 and it's not 1/32. Being a Palmer, it's all kinda relative, though, I think
  16. Ken, the package came today, thank you so much! I really appreciate what you sent me Just a post to let everyone know that Ken Kilbourn is one cool person!!
  17. Very cool Bob! I think one of the guys in the TNMCC built one of them in black a few years back, before I even had my digital camera. Looks like a fun kit, from his car and and yours. I like the graphics...nice job on your first decal making attempt!
  18. I use Tamiya clear on the rare occasion I need gauge faces...Dries clear, completly, and stays shiny.. I used it to hold in the head and taillights if I can (If not, I BMF the back of them to make reflectors and glue that in) and I used it for this build. The lights are completly dry here. Even though they are clear parts, they reflect as if they were chrome
  19. Good answer for me Gregg, I know how busy you were, I barely got a chance to talk to you! I'll have some of my NASCARs in Toledo too...And, so far, I know my Tucker is going...Probably will have other things too! Ken, if you spot me, say hello! I'm hard to miss, right guys? I'm in for name tags. I already sport three at every show, but a 4th is more then welcome!
  20. Hey Gregg, I don't want to sound like I'm whining, nit picking, complaining, etc, really just pontificating...How come there were no NASCARs pictured in the NNL East coverage? I know there were a ton there, I had 16 of them myself! Still a great issue. I couldn't put it down. Quite a few TNMCC shots in there too...makes some work for me but it's the kind I will never, ever complain about! (I keep a chart showing where all our guys get published)
  21. I love that green flocking! I bet if you ground it up some you could make it look like astroturf :?:
  22. Very nice Ismael! First time I ever used a lathe, I kept going until there was nothing left! (Was when I was in 9th grade, though!)
  23. I just got the newest issue, and I havn't read father then the monologue yet, but I skimmed through the NNL East Pictures...Those alone make it one of the best issues ever. I can't wait to actually get a chance to sit down and read it!! So you're coming to Toledo, eh Gregg? That will save me the postage on something I got in the works...
