  1. I know we've disgussed this in the past Art, but that's such a terrible shame. I would buy one of them in a heartbeat. I'd have it trailing after an old Chevy pickup though. Perhaps AMT's 50.
  2. You see that all the time, Ken. The longer a board runs, the more lurkers you have. I for one, can't understand that logic...Obviously Some of them actually visit the board (You can see them in the active users area from time to time) but most of them just register and then leave.
  3. This is one of my all time favorite projects by anyone, Art. I was honored and privledged to see it up close and in person at the NNL Nationals in 04 (I think it was 04) I really hope to see you complete it!!
  4. IT's DONE!!! MY First ever true Darkside car!! WHoo Hoo! The paint is Testors "purple" which I did have to clear coat. Decals are Yesterdays, which were as usual perfect, with JWTBM Chrome hood pin decals. I scratchbuilt the headlight covers, tail panel, fuel filler interior cover and parts of the roll cage, the rest of which came from a 64 Marauder kit. Modelhaus wheels and tires and the tire markings are Slixx. Enjoy the pictures, I know I enjoyed building this one!! I know the engine is probably not correct. It's just box stock, but it almost didn't get one. I had taped the hood shut but decided to add the engine in right before I decaled it. I left the taillights red because one of the pictures I saw posted showed they were still red, which I had to incorperate. The Headlight covers are sheet plastic that I cut out with a hole puncher and painted silver. I used this picture as refrence, and I chose this one as it most closely resembles the 1/64 car from Racing Champions I have
  5. Model Master Lacquer White Primer covers it all...I'm doing 2 88-92 NASCAR Oldsmobiles currently, and that kit was issued ONLY in yellow plastic. I also have a 93-94 Pontiac that was issued only in black, which the MML White Primer covered with ease. Pictures to come soon!
  6. Fantastic work, John. It looks like a Concourse winner!
  7. I thought it was tonight (Saturday) D'oh! And the worst thing is, I had my computer up and running the entire time (I did a lot of scanning last night, more then 200 things)
  8. That's really a great polishing job Ismael! I've tried polishing, but it didn't come out anywhere NEAR as good. Can't wait to see more!
  9. I will try to join you guys there....I can't make any guarentees but I'm gonna try! (If you guys were in there at 10 AM, I'd be sure to join you as I'm definitly going to be awake then On my current sleeping scedule I am starting to get tired around 4 PM EST and 4 PST is, what. 7EST? I think it is, but since I've never been there I never really payed much attention ) Jairus I hate to pester you but did you get the email I sent you? I don't know if I should try resending or if I should try another format for sending...It bounced back from Gregg so I know he didn't get it!
  10. Very cool Bill, it looks awesome!!
  11. An internet roundtable, perhaps?? I know the email I sent to both of you bounced back from Gregg's email address...if you got it Jairus you can share it with Gregg! I have an idea for a How To for you...I will send you a PM...
  12. Sounds good Bill, I know it will actually look right if you do it!!
  13. Wow, that's awesome Art. That style car is so cool!
  14. That's Beutifull, Bill! I love the paint work on it...That color is noting short of breathtaking. And you say this one is not "Osessive" LOL...You passed that when you swapped the interior out my friend!! I have a use for squished Impala body if you don't have plans for it....I have a project that needs a whole new roof grafted on...Something I've never done before, I must be hanging out too much with you LOL Just kidding Bill! (Seriously, if your talent could wear off on me, I'd hide in your attick )
  15. Looking good Ken!! What kind of mirrors do you need? The Revell 70s Custom van from 2000 has the best "California Mirriors" I've found so far. I don't have any to spare I've already built both my copys with them on there but it may be a place to look!
  16. Like I've said a few times, I've got LOTS of 1:1 car pictures. After this one, I will still have 13 albums to go through and post. That's alot! I may do some later, or press on and do them all now. I don't know. This one is of family cars. These pictures are all new for most of you as I keep this album locked. There are some really old pictures in here, from before I was born, even! Enjoy the ride through time... This is our old Aerostar. My dad brought it home in 1996, and it was basically a pile of rust. Parts would fall off when going down the street. Once, we hit a particularly bad pothole on the Taconic and one of the headlights bounced out. It eventually just died. We parked it in August of 2003 at our trusted mechanic. It was just too much to keep fixing. I am SO thankfull that we did. John (our mecahnic and friend) was using it for storage on his lot, and one of his customers kept trying to buy it. Eventually John relented and the guy took it home. Luckily, he was driving on a back street and the van just stopped, and was totalled in the wreck. No people were hurt...BUT...If we did not park it, the very next day we were going to Lake George (actually for the 2003 Adirondack Nationals) and we would have been on the NYS Thruway doing 60(even though the speedlimit is 65, the van couldn't do that as it would start to shake apart, literally!) with 18 wheelers and crazy idiots doing 90. If we didn't bring it down to check first...Myself and my mom might not be here anymore. Very scary thought. This is the only shot of it I have on the digital camera. This is our 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. It replaced the van, and has been our steady companion ever since. When my mom becomes a teacher, she plans on buying a new car, probably a Suburban, and the Jeep will become my car. Even though I have had my Permit since 2000, I really don't drive often but when I do, it's in the Jeep. This is the only shot of it I can post, I have tons more, but there is a possibility that it may be in FSJ (Full Size Jeep) Magazine. (I just remembered when I was making this post that I never wrote anything up for them, oops!) This was my brother's Cavalier. It's not a great picture, but it's the best one I have without him in it, and he wouldn't be happy if I posted it. He was the first owner of it, buying it as a lot car in February 1997 (it's a 1996 model) It's his third car, but the first one he picked. It was also the first car I ever drove, in 1998. It eventually just got to the point where it was more efficiant to buy a new one then to keep repairing this one and renting while it's getting fixed. The last straw was when the engine block cracked. So, he officially was no longer the owner of it on 12/24/05. Christmas eve. This is what he replaced it with, a 2005 Chevy Cobalt. We all went over to get it on 12/26/05 and when he got it, there were only 12 miles on the odometer!! (He's already put about 5000 on it) It is a much better car then his Cavalier. This is a shot I've posted a bunch of times, in several places. It shows two of our family vehicles. The 75 Torino Wagon was our family car for a while, and it was also my dad's car for a while too. I don't remember what happened to it, but I can remember being in it. Some of my earliest memorys are of being in it, I have two very faint bits of memory, one is of sitting in the front seat of Sheeba (The Torino's name) in the driveway, with it's brown vinyl interior, and the other is in the backseat of our 66 Chevelle 4 door that no known pictures exist of. I think we had them both around the same time. This picture is around 1991, I know that as our Citation is in the picture. We got the Citation when the Chevelle rusted away, which was 1990. The Citation also has a hood ornament here, and that was stolen not long after we got it. That is the car I have alot of memorys of, as it was our daily driver from 90-summer 96 when dad brought home the Aerostar. It had no radio, no AC, no headliner, the hatch didn't always stay open, didn't always have heat, it had leaks beaucoup, and many other problems. But, that's what happens when you won't pay more then $200 for a car. I also gave myself a concussion on this car more times then I could count. That's why the van came home (although, the van was unanounced, it just appeared in the driveway one day, but that's another story for another time) After the Van became our daily driver, the Citation was relegated to my dad's second car, it it was dragged to the junkyard when it's driveshaft broke. Dad got a 91 Suburu Legacy wagon to replace it, because it, too, was only $200. (That's all dad would pay for a car, ever) Dad is driving the Torino in this picture, and I think I may be in the passenger seat. I know this is late in it's life as we have some other, yet to be scanned pictures with it with not as much rust, so I am guessing this was my last ride in it before it, too, became a cube. (Dig the Willys mail truck in the background) Here's an interesting picture...This is my dad drag racing a school bus at the US Diesel Truckin Nationals in Englishtown NJ in the 90s. My dad drag raced a 55 Chevy in the 60s, and later in his life he drag raced this and other buses, and he even drag raced his Quantum at the same event after the Bus company no longer took part. This is my uncle Skip's modified circa 1994 or so at the Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown NY. Skip still races, though now in a sprint car, and last year even won his division championship. He's pretty much the only non-immediate family member we talk to, as well, these days, but again, another story for another time. Skip is the man who, on 12/26/92, gave me a box of 1/64 NASCARs that got me involved in the sport...little did I know that was one of the most important days of my life. This photo has never been posted online anywhere. This is my mom's uncle Donnie's modified, in 1974 at Middletown. We havn't spoken to Donnie since 1994, but I am still working on arranging the decals so I can build this car. I have some detail pictures too. This is another one of my mom's uncles, Reggie, at the same track as the last two, also mid 70s or 80s. I don't know for sure. My friend and fellow TNMCC member Herb Hoskins found this picture for me from his Modified friends. Reggie has been the owner of a Garage in Peekskill NY (my family's hometown) since he was 18 years old. He's still the owner and worker, and he's now pushing, or already is, being a senior citizen (according to the state of NY, that's 62 years old) This is a cool picure. On the far left is a trailer owned by my mom's parents. Next to it is a 69(?) Ford wagon, which pulled the camper and eventually, when they bought new, became ours. Next to THAT, is my parent's camper, which they sold in 1977 to have enough money to move into the house that we still live in. On the far right, is a 1974 Dodge Ram- The ONLY vehicle my family ever bought new! (as a family car, I guess you could count my brother's cars too) It's not a great picture of the Ram, but, it's the best I have. They had it for less then a year. Within a week of owning it, my dad tore off the California mirriors (there wasn't enough space between the trees he was driving through, another long story) and eventually, it was disposed of, according to his story (I don't know exactly how true it was, my dad had a tendancy of embellishing storys), he said, a senior citizen in a 55 Olds(remember this is 1975) pulled in front of him, running a red light and he t-boned it, flipping the Olds onto it's side and the Ram rode up onto it, bending the Ram's frame. Even though it was fixable, he didn't bother. And that was the end of that. I have only 3 pictures of it, that one, another one that shows just the nose, and one with my dad in his Fire Company Uniform and my brother standing behind it. I havn't scanned the other two yet, but since my brother is in them both, he'd prefer I not post them anyway. This is my dad's VW Quantum. It was diesel powered, 5 shades of brown and was known at turning everything around it black and sooty. Especially snow. This is the only known picture of it, and since you've all seen me before, and dad surely doesn't care, here it is. I do have more to scan. I found some pictures in the basement that show several of the wagons we've had (when other family members would get new, they would give them to us; we don't have alot of money now and even less back then) and I have a bag of old pictures from my dad's side of the family...really old. 1920s old! (!) The pictures are very dirty though, but, when you've been sitting in atticks and basements for 70 years, I imagine it's only to be expected that they will get dirty. So I don't want to really put them on my new scanner that I got for my birthday last year, at least until I can scan some more newer, less grimy stuff. Thanks for looking, and letting me reminisce!
  17. The most recent show. This year I have a whopping 206 pictures. (OK, not "whopping" but the most I've taken at a car show. These took 4 days to take. The 185 at Rhinebeck took an hour and a half! I was in the zone last month! ) These are my best ones from Lake George, but after seeing what I could do at Rhinebeck, the 2006 show should be even better, photograph wise. This year (I consider the 2005 show this year, until the 2006 show...my date keeping is a little bit weird!) my brother had his digital camera at the show, and he took some more pictures too. Some really good ones, too! Here's the album link: http://public.fotki.com/ElCaminoBilly/real...knationals2005/ A Canadian Pontiac! Hey, Steve Milberry! They just left this car sitting like this for at least 6 hours. I found out after these pictures were taken that the car belonged to one of the vendors. This Rambler's been there a few times. They take the meaning of the model title seriously! You can tell which vehicles have been there before because of the huge stickers on the windsheild. If/when I have an old car, I will probably just cruise or park it on the street, so as to avoid those stickers. They are huge, and I've seen one car where they covered half the window (a T bucket) This Forward Control's been there 3 times. I've heard of Woodys, but this takes the cake! You don't see old Suburbans too often. This is just too cool! Got Milk? This Pro Street Divco has been to every show I've been to here and this is the best picture of it I have. I think I've shot it at every show too. If you look through the albums, you'll several shots of it. I wish I could find one of those Jimmy Flintstone Divcos, now... This Ranchero, of all the pictures, has gotten the most comments, even by people who do not know anything about cars. This car was built based off a Tom Daniel Design! This truck is one wild vehicle. My brother Rich took this one. A look down the Vendor area and of Fort William Henry, as seen in "Last of the Mohicans" and the History Channel. One of the boats on the lake is called the Mohican too. As you can tell, by how many I posted, that these were my favorite pictures from my favorite show
  18. It's a year later and my pictures are better now. There are 74 pictures from this year. Some of the show was raining, and it's nice to know that there are some poeple who do drive their cars in the (heavy) rain...even if they don't have a hood or roof! (True storys...) Of cource, I didn't take the camera out when it was raining. Album link: http://public.fotki.com/ElCaminoBilly/real...knationals2004/ You don't see many custom Packards. Gotta love that paint job. The first two 59 El Caminos I ever saw were both that same show. I have some pictures of a red one but they didn't turn out as good. I couldn't get back far enough to get the whole car. I loved this Willys
  19. This is the 2003 show. Like I said, I love this show and the location. This is the first ever event for the digital camera. Our old camera was purchased in 1991, but when we were taking some pictures of our Aerostar on the lot where we disposed of it, I dropped it and killed it. (The camera!) So, we stopped at Best Buy in Saratoga NY and bought a new, digitial camera. We got it on the very first day of our vacation, and the Adirondack Nationals was the very first event for it. (Right after this, we took it to Cape Cod, which was also the first outing for our new car, the 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee!) Some of my shots are a little blurry, and out of focus, poorly angled, etc. It was a totally new experience for me, and I didn't use the old camera hardly at all anyway. Here is the album, containing 79 pictures: http://public.fotki.com/ElCaminoBilly/real...knationals2003/ This car stays at the same place we do, year after year. I think I've photographed it every single year, too. It's my own little tradition, LOL. I love this style of car. I don't know what it is, and the paint job could be better (not a big fan of brown!) but the body lines are great. You can hear this thing from a mile away...I think, literally! And yes, they do drive it on the streets... I wonder if you could build this with the RMR kit and a 48 Ford Revell kit? This is the only street rod I've ever been in. They let you sit in it and take a picture for $5. There is almost no room in it. I'm 5-8 and it's too small for me.
  20. This is my worst set of pictures, there is nothing more then the 10 I have in the album. 2002 was totally messed up for me, and I can hardly remember any of it. (you can see why by looking at my 2001 post) I apologize for the poor quality. Here is the link anyway: http://public.fotki.com/ElCaminoBilly/real...knationals2002/ OK, I know this is not a car picture, but it is the best of the bunch. There was a neverending stream of cars coming into the show (that happens every year, almost or more then 2000 cars show up each year...I think of it as the NNL East of 1:1 cars, actually. I just stood there watching for a while that year, and I took this picture. and this one too.
  21. The Adirondack Nationals, held annual in Lake George in September, is my absolute favorite car show. It's in my favorite place in the world, Lake George NY, and is just too much fun to put into words!! These shots were taken on actual film (!) and scanned in. I know I have more to do, but these have been done already, so I shall post them. There are only 11 so far, but more to come. On an interesting side note, it was about 100 degrees out that day, very sunny and humid. One of the worst conditions I've actually done anything in, like walking up to town...And I had to wear my black ModelCarList shirt that day...(I know this as I have a picture of me and dad standing next to a 70 El Camino) So here is the link: http://public.fotki.com/ElCaminoBilly/real...knationals2001/ I could see building this El Camino is scale! The artwork on this Willys was awesome. My dad had one of these when he met my mom. A shot looking south on Route 9. (the main road both there and here in Wappingers Falls) This show is kind of special to me. It was the last car show I ever went to with my dad, who died just 5 months later in Feb 02. We also came home on September 10th, 2001. I really don't think there's anyone who doesn't know what happened the day after. Living just an hour or two north of the City, depending on traffic, that was truly the last "normal" day for us for quite a while, and the reverberations are still felt today.
  22. Hi everybody, these are the pictures from the last car show I went to. I think I may have posted some already on here, I cannot remember. These are, of all that I've taken, probably the best shots I've done. The show, called nothing but "Rhinebeck Spring 2006" as far as I know, was held May 6-8, 2006, and I went on the 7th. Held in Rhinebeck NY, the location plays host to a Goodguys National Event in September (which I have some pictures of to post, too, hang on because I've got alot!) Here is the link to the album, there are 185 pictures in it: http://public.fotki.com/ElCaminoBilly/real...inebeck_spring/ And some pictures The Curved Dash Olds I mentioned before There were more Corvairs there then I've ever seen in my life, combined! There was even a Superbird! There were many European cars there as well, including this little Volvo wagon There was even a three wheeled Morgan! 2 Bullet Nose Studebakers were on hand! 5 Edsels were there, including 3 convertibles. I had never seen a convertible one in person before. One of them is parked off to my left in this shot. There are 16 Edsel shots at the link. Can you tell I love Edsels? There were a bunch of neat trucks, too. Several Woodys were there. And Brass Era cars were well represented, too. My mom dubbed this one the Mauve Marauder The Muscle Cars were well represented too! I had alot of fun at this show, it's actually the first time I've been to this one in almost a decade. We are either usually on vacation or it gets rained out. Thanks, enjoy the pictures!
  23. Thank you Jairus, off to post some pictures!
  24. Jairus...how about car show coverage? The car shows I get to have mixtures of all kinds of things...the latest one I went to had everything from a Curved Dash Olds up to 70s land barges and even imports of all vintage sorts...WOuld it be OK for one thread to cover the car show or should it be broken up? Just wondering
