I like it - your finish is really good, and I like the color choice. The cuts and styling on this car reminds me of one of my favorites - the Mitsubishi Starion.

Chevy SS Throwback Scheme...Not what you might think.
drsnapper55 replied to roadhawg's topic in WIP: NASCAR
Very sharp Tommy, and excellent job as always on the decals. Tell your son to keep those ideas coming! -
Bingo - Seems to be the 1972 Chevelle SS-454. I found an old ebay listing with a parts tree that I can make out that matches, so looking now for some instructions on how the turbo setup goes together, etc. Thanks again - this has been driving me crazy

Oh man - the hunt may continue here! Thanks for all the info, but still can't find a match to anything online. Drastic Plastics has some good instructions, but I can't pull up a match from anything in Monogram or MPC. I'm fairly confident that this all came from one kit. I kind of thought it might be from a Chevelle kit of some sort. Thanks again,

Thank you very much Rob - that seems to be the kit! Any help with instructions for the turbo setup would be greatly appreciated. The closest I can find online is the 1980 1/8 version, and it's not the same. Thanks again, Colby

I was wondering if I could get some help identifying this engine. Parts of it have been painted, and it was originally molded in red. I think it was taken from a Chevy of some sort, and I notice it has some building options. I'm also interested in instructions (for how the turbos? assemble, etc.), scale, and opinions on its correctness. Thank you for any help - I appreciate it.

Great build and stance - very clean - what inch wheels are those Aoshima?

'69 Nova Pro Touring Help

Thank you very much Mark, and I will definitely keep this in mind as I look in to this further - I'm doing this build for a family member, so going to double check and see exactly what he wants -
'69 Nova Pro Touring Help
drsnapper55 replied to drsnapper55's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thank you very much for these responses and help - I didn't know about Hobby Design Wheels. -
Hello - I'm looking for advice on how to build a '69 Chevy Pro Touring scale vehicle. I'm particularly interested in finding a style wheel that will match the 1/25 scale Revell '69 Chevy Nova SS or Yenko kit that I plan to use. I'm familiar with Aoshima and Pegasus but I couldn't find a style that I'm looking for with these. I found some Aoshima that might work, but I'm unfamiliar with what inch wheel and tire size I might need (they were all pictured with imports). I also noticed that these were 1/24 scale. I'm open to resin, aluminum, 3D printed, or maybe even another kit that I could find something in this particular style: Boze Performance or something close to this - http://www.bozeforged.com/performance.html I'm also wondering how I might go about lowering this kit as well as if the box stock engines would work or other upgrades that I might do for Pro Touring. This style is all new territory for me, so thanks for any help, even if you can steer me in the direction for more research.

RE: the Scotty gif - I did some digging and found the origin. This clip cracks me up, and I've been curious about where it came from too. Turns out that is Ben Stiller on the right, and the clip is from the 1992 Ben Stiller Show. I didn't know that show ever existed. Anyways, the full clip here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LeUhpLdmhQs

Organizing spare parts
drsnapper55 replied to MrBuick's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah, x2 on Christian's first two pics and recommendation above. I like them because everything is really visible for the most part. The trade off though is that kind of plastic can be a little brittle. Home Depot sells them too, but you might find them cheaper at say Harbor Freight. If you have an area available for pegboard, lots of options there too for hanging boxes, tool brackets, etc. -

A nice and different take on a popular car - great job. I really like your wheel choice. -
Paint steps with Tamiya Spray paint

Nice resource and thanks for sharing in response - never really thought about the clear and light reflection as related to the surface. -
Outstanding! Just watched this last night too

Most everything in the pic is donor and scratch. The kit does have some chassis pieces, but they are very simplified. Here's a few more pics that might help you see what I picked out of it in the early stages: Yep - hope to bash it up good

I'm cranking this unfinished project back up after a long absence from the bench. It is the Polar Lights Willys kit with various parts box pieces and such. I'm using several donor pieces from the AMT '33 Willys kit too. Surprisingly the donor '33 interior fits almost perfectly, but I'll have to modify it some. Comments welcome - thanks for looking and hope to post more soon.

Thanks for all the additional info here - just what I was wanting to know

Looks like you are having a lot of fun with this, and it shows! Great subject and great craftsmanship. You mentioned flags in one of your earlier posts...not sure if you were still needing ideas, but using tissue paper and glue mixture might work with giving you realism and flexibility with shaping. You might have to dig for specifics, but a friend taught me - I only found this online. Rather than print colors and patterns on white tissue paper (which is what I did), you might even find some tissue paper for a more vibrant needed color. For what it's worth, I have only attempted a scratch flag one time with tissue paper, and I was really satisfied with the way it came out.

I was wondering if you anyone could supply any more specific tips or pics of using fiberglass sheeting and epoxy for reinforcing joints or perhaps even to create contours. I'm also wondering about the thickness of the fiberglass sheeting and where to purchase. Hugh mentions some of this above, but I would like to maybe see some pics of different kinds. I like the tip above too about using dryer sheets. This thread is the only info I could find on this forum, but I could be mistaken. Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I agree that the Tamiya brush size is ideal, but the other solvents you mention do set quicker. I like the Tenax for the quickest set. I also like to use the Ambroid Safe Weld which you may be able to still get here and there - it's non-toxic, and I like the slower set time. To me, the Ambroid Safe Weld is not as 'gooey' as the Tamiya glue and hardens up quicker.

Great approach to something different - looking forward to seeing this come along, and thanks for sharing with the pics. That may be a common tip with the fiberglass and epoxy, but I don't think I have ever seen that done before. Could you elaborate a little more on the fiberglass fabric (where to get?) and maybe what set you used for the epoxy? Also, do you just sand that out further after it sets or other? Thanks,

Any luck with Speedway Decals?

I've known Tommy for a while too - he's a good guy -
Yep - nice idea to add cheap and easy interest to a display.

As cool as the Black Widow kit is, I would like to build it as something different too - great subject and idea you have here - looking forward to your finished build
