What Did You Have for Dinner?
StevenGuthmiller replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Tonight was "Steak Marsala with Parmesan Risotto". Steve -
I think that I might agree with you on that. Not sure about the front end treatment, but they did work some of the "dumpiness" out of it. Although, I much prefer the rebel SST. Tell me that AMC & Mopar weren't swiping ideas from each other! Can anybody say "Road Runner"? Steve

single action/gravity fed
StevenGuthmiller replied to Mike12's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I generally really dislike dual action airbrushes as well. Not because of any physical issues, but because for model building purposes, I really don't see the need for it. I like to just pull or press the trigger & go! I use an old siphon feed Badger 200 for most smaller stuff, and the "Creos" trigger brush pictured above for bodies. It is a dual action, but I paint like I drive. Pedal to the metal!! Steve -

57 Chevy small hub caps
StevenGuthmiller replied to junkyardjeff's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
As far as I know, it is the only '57 kit with the dog dish caps. Unless someone casts them in resin, you will probably need to find a set from this kit. Try posting in the wanted section. I have to believe that there are not very many guys who will be building this kit factory stock, so there should be a lot of those caps available. I would give you mine, but I'm probably one of those guys that will use them! Steve -

What do you listen to while you build???
StevenGuthmiller replied to slusher's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Yeah, I talk to myself, or yell at myself occasionally. Which ever is required at the time. Steve -
What's not to like! The more that I look over the Riv, the more that I want to get started on it right away! I'm thinking of doing a quartet of '63 Buick & '64 Pontiac kits for my next "string" of builds. The '63 Riviera, along with a '63 Electra hard top, & a '64 Grand Prix & a '64 Bonneville convertible. I could even add a '64 Lemans convertible to that line up! I think it would be a combination that might hold my interest long enough to finish them if I do it in the correct order. Steve

I don't listen to anything while I'm at the bench. The quieter, the better. Steve -
Chrome plating services
StevenGuthmiller replied to Gary J.'s topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Good luck with reaching him through his email. I tried that a couple of times over a couple of months & never received an answer. Steve -
It is pretty nice, but I've never been the type to buy them to collect them. I buy them to build them to my specifications. It could be a while before I re-build this one, so it will remain as is........for the time being. I'm envisioning it in "Rose Mist" but I'll have to think about it. Steve

What Did You Have for Dinner?
StevenGuthmiller replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Tonight I made "Oven BBQ Beef Sandwiches" & "3 Cheese Twice Baked Potatoes". These are the type of "oven meals" that will become much more common in our house now that the cold weather is setting in. Steve -
What Do I Do?

Terrific Doug! I know he will appreciate it immensely! He won't know what him! Steve -
You're probably correct to a point. Clear coating and leaving it as is can make a paint job look "candy like" ruining any realism. That's where polishing comes in. While polishing will not only give you a brilliant shine, it will also knock down that "candy" look and give you a very realistic appearance. In my opinion, much more realistic than any paint that is just shot on and left alone. Steve

In most cases, if your dust particle is small enough, you're better off clear coating over the entire body before polishing it out. This way, you will not disturb the metallic particles when polishing. 99% of the time, when I resolve the issue in this way, if there is any indication that there was a dust speck in the paint, it is nearly imperceptible, to the point where you may only be able to see it under magnification. I rarely worry about a couple of small imperfections in my paint jobs using this method. It normally will take care of the issue. Steve

I like that idea! If anybody has the glass or steering wheel for an MPC '65 Monaco that they can spare, let me know & I will give you the recipients address so you can send them to him. The rest of the kit will be shipped out today. Steve -

What Do I Do?
StevenGuthmiller replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
All of the parts are present! The only issues were that the exhaust/rear suspension assembly was broken up a bit, the tail light was broken in half & there is no chrome on the majority of the chrome parts. Oh, I take that back! I believe that the windshield is missing. Should be a pretty easy resto. Steve -

I think that I have made a decision on this matter folks. I appreciate everyone's suggestions. It made it much easier for me to come to a conclusion. Thank you all! Steve
