That's one that I still have on my "to find" list also Bill. As a matter of fact, I'm looking for the convertible as well, but of course, mine will need the up top! Steve

I hate to be a downer Sam, but for a few dollars more you could have gotten a brand new sealed kit with a new bed cover & the custom grille. The recent release of this kit is the exact same one as the one from the '60s. Steve

1968 Shelby Green Hornet-----Update! 8/4/18

Way more patience than I'll ever have! Steve -
Did that for 25 years! Don't miss it even a little!! Steve

No reason you can't do both Tulio. But I would save the dio for outdoor shots. It would look more realistic in natural light. The white background makes it look clean & un-cluttered showing off the model without any distractions. The only thing I don't like about my photo booth is it seems to soften a little too much hiding the shine of the paint. Yours seems to look good. Steve

Thanks so much guys! Yeah, something must be going on with photobucket. The pictures @ the beginning of the thread were showing up earlier, & the pictures @ the end not. Now it seems to be the opposite. Photobucket really gives me fits sometimes! All of these pics are from the same folder in my bucket. Why some of the links are working & others are not is a mystery. Hopefully they'll get their mess straightened out. Steve

You did Bill, which is why I needed to mock it up that way to get a feel for it. You just absolutely never see these old Mopar B-bodies with white walls any more. It's pretty much red lines or go home. Personally, I've never been much of a fan of redlines. You, my friend, will be getting a lot of credit for many of the things done to this kit, & I thank you for all of the help! Steve

Thanks guys!! I've been stretched out on my back like a corpse, & feeling like one as well, with a nasty virus of some sort for the past few days, so not a lot is happening. I am now back at work & visions of modeling are beginning to dance through my head, so I hope to be back at it full force this weekend. There's really not that much left to do so I'm hoping I'll surprise myself & finish it up by the end of the weekend. I really need to! It's been entirely too long since I finished a project. Steve

I agree with all said here. Just be prepared to deal with a bunch of "incorrect color" statements when it goes "under glass". They will come. I think we all know that. Steve

1960 Lincoln Continental Mark 5 convertible
StevenGuthmiller replied to gtx6970's topic in Model Cars
Wow Bill! I'm surprised at how much closer it looks to the Maple Leaf color you were shooting for now that it's done. Your build thread photos made it look much farther away. Great job on this one Bill! Steve -
Correcting molded in / chrome headlights
StevenGuthmiller replied to gtx6970's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I agree. This really has nothing to do with an intentional mis-alignment as with Steve's model. The ones that drive me nuts are the guys who spend hours perfecting a great paint job, adding all the detail "bells & whistles" & then just gluing the lenses in however they fall. Looks horribly sloppy to me. Steve -
eBay for Parts, What Do You Buy?
StevenGuthmiller replied to Skip's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I will also do this occasionally. I recently bought a badly distorted '61 Olds promo just for the wheel covers. Of course, there are some other parts gained in the process that turned out to be valuable. The grille, tail lights & steering wheel will most likely be used on a resin build. I've also bought things like a complete, customized '61 Ford Sunliner just for the clean interior tub. The rest of the model was traded away. Steve -
Correcting molded in / chrome headlights
StevenGuthmiller replied to gtx6970's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
You can still drill them out even though the chrome has been redone. Just carefully hollow them out with a very tiny Dremel bit just deep enough to accept clear lenses. Yes, you do have to be very careful, but you have to be even before plating as well. I did this with my '69 Coronet build, & while it's not perfect, it's better than the ugly chrome lenses. Steve I see one of the lenses is loose & moved on me. I'll be re-gluing that. -
Airbrush Bottles
StevenGuthmiller replied to chris02719's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
You can buy Badger/ Iwata airbrush bottles on ebay by the case. I believe they run, on average, around $1.50-$2.00 a jar. Depending on the type of paint you're using, they have plastic bottles as well. You can get 200 of them for $150.00! Steve -
'Pro-built' from France...
StevenGuthmiller replied to mk11's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Exactly! I don't begrudge the guy for getting he kind of money he gets for these models. More power to him. What I object to is the pro-built statement. I guess we shouldn't pick on this individual so much. He's not the only one. I see this pro-built trash on ebay all of the time & it's always irritated me. So when this thread came up, I just had to voice my opinion on the matter. Obviously, truth in advertising doesn't apply on ebay. Steve -
I've heard that it's good stuff but haven't tried it myself. I hear it's very nasty! Steve
-
Any time something "turns into wine", I'm thinking that a higher power was involved. You didn't come up with this color scheme at all, did you Al! Steve

'Pro-built' from France...
StevenGuthmiller replied to mk11's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Maybe he is a professional! If I could find fools dumb enough to give me $850.00 for boogers like these, I'd quit my job & just build models! Steve -
I still don't know how that color combo works, but it does! I would have never thought of it in a thousand years! Steve
-
How did I miss this? Nice work Al! I'm guessing that this is a copy of the Johan promo. I have one of the X-EL versions that I built probably more than 25 years ago that I want to re-do. You're correct, it was a butt load of foiling to do. Can't say that I'm looking forward to doing it over again. Steve

'Pro-built' from France...
StevenGuthmiller replied to mk11's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I need to find out who the guy is who's laying down this kind of money for these stinkers. I'll build whatever he would like me to for $450.00! Especially with expectations this low! Although, the Chrysler doesn't look horrible. Probably got lucky! Steve -
'Pro-built' from France...
StevenGuthmiller replied to mk11's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Some sort of messed up cross between an Olds & a Monte Carlo? At least it doesn't look like an 8 year old did the paint. Sorry, I didn't intend to insult the 8 year olds! Steve -
'Pro-built' from France...
StevenGuthmiller replied to mk11's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It has nothing to do with who's buying them or how much money they bring, I just can't stand it when these dopes call the trash they churn out "pro-built". I think I do fairly good work on my projects, but I would never call them Pro-built. "Pro" means professional. If building models is this guys profession, I would be surprised if he wasn't in the bread line. Just lay off the misleading terms, that's all I ask. Steve
