  1. I've used Testors clear lacquers over pretty much everything & never had a problem. Testors lacquers are very mild. By the way, terrific work on the Goat! Steve
  2. For me it's pretty much been the opposite. I limited myself for many years to just buying new kits that interested me, mainly full sized cars from the 50s & 60s. That translated into possibly 3 or 4 kits per year, if that. However, over the past few years, kit buying has become much more prolific & expensive for me as I started acquiring old obsolete kits from places like ebay. I've had a list of "holy grail" kits for a good portion of my life that couldn't be fulfilled due to finances & where to get them. Now that I'm older, have a bit more disposable income, & opportunities like ebay, I've begun filling out my collection with those grail kits. I have begun to slow the purchasing down in the past few months as I've pretty much filled that want list up. But when a new kit like the Ventura shows up, I'm pretty much like every other self respecting builder.......I've gotta have one! Steve
  3. I was thinking the same thing. I just did a test fit on the rear glass on mine, as I can't do a fit on the front until a new body arrives from Moebius, & it seems to fit pretty well. It's a tad high as stated, but it looks to me like just a little material taken off the bottom & possibly a little sanding on the trim along the top is all it would need to fit nicely. But, by the time I do my usual multiple coat paint job, I'm betting that it will not fit well at all. Something will need to be done. I can also see how thinning out the wheel flange will benefit the look of the wheels. I think I'll just grind the backs down a bit with a Dremel reamer. Thanks for pointing out these problems Bill.   4. Best part is, I didn't pay a penny for them! Got 'em in a trade for a model that I was never going to use anyway! I'm happy! Steve
  5. Thanks guys! John, The upper body moldings were especially tough on this one. This kit has some pretty faint detailing in spots, the moldings being the worst. By the time you get primer, color & clear on it, the lower edge of the trim was almost non existent. This is one of those instances when the painters tape comes in very handy. Steve

  7. If you're posting photos directly from your hard drive, you're only allowed so much space. The best solution is to start a Fotki or Photobucket account & post pics from there. Instead of eating up bandwidth with your photos, it actually posts a link using none. Your photo is there just as if you had loaded it directly from your computer. You can post pictures as much as you like with no ill affect. If you keep posting from your hard drive, you will eventually run out of allotted space & will have to start deleting stuff. Steve

  11. Right now I'm in the middle of an old MPC '65 Dodge Monaco annual. Going a little slow right now, but with any luck I hope to have it done by the first of February. Steve
  12. Thanks Alan, now you've got me skipping down memory lane. But after perusing through the contents of the box of this wonderfully engineered Johan kit, I don't think I could force myself to part with it. Here it is in all of its "decades of dust" glory. Not quite as nice as Yuri's. Makes a nice "before & after" comparison though! Steve
  13. Unbelievable as usual Yuri!! I've had one of these kits laying around for many years & never had the drive to build it. I've been thinking about getting rid of it for a while, but now I'm not sure. But then again, it'll never look that nice so why bother hanging on to it. Steve
  14. The '60 Buick & Edsel hardtops can be especially hard to find. I built them both & in each case I bought convertibles & later got lucky enough to find nice hardtop bodies to switch out with the convertible bodies. The '58 Ford & the '61 Ford Starliner are a couple others that are hard to find in a hardtop body. I still have yet to find a good '58 Ford hardtop, although I really haven't been in the hunt lately.   18. Thanks Sam! I'm generally a hardtop guy, but I do love the look of a convertible with the top up, so whenever possible, I'll use them. The '62 Ford is the piece from the annual. The '58 Ford kit never came with one but the resin Modelhaus piece was so nice I had to add it, as well as the continental kit. Steve

  20. Well, consider yourself a "Test Pilot" on this one Al. This is probably the first one of these kits built anywhere on the planet! At least now the rest of us know what to expect. Steve

  22. Nice Al! Did you have issues with the fit of the wheels & windshield like everyone is talking about? Looks like you may have had to go a little crazy with the glue on the windshield to get it in. Steve

  25. There's a ton of them out there. How cheap is another story. I have a body laying around some where, but nothing else to go with it. Steve
