  1. Gotta love the Imperial! I really like the green Plymouth too! Steve
  2. That's what I was thinking! I Have psoriasis & use an injectable medication called "Enbrel" which is a twice weekly injection. I have more syringes laying around the house than you could shake a stick at! But before any of you get any ideas, my syringes come pre-loaded & it probably wouldn't be a great idea to start shipping dirty needles all over the country! On a more useful note, I just picked up a 3 foot long piece of stainless steel 21 gauge hypodermic tubing on Amazon for a little over $8.00. My plan was to use it for antenna bases but I think it might be just a hair too large. Amazon has all different sizes of hypodermic tubing. The trick is getting the size you want. I'm not real good with gauges & math makes my head hurt! Steve
  3. If you do the foil correctly, you'll barely be able to tell the difference. Not only does the front trim piece need foiling, but all the window trim. The Revell '58 Impala is the same way. All of the body trim is plated, but the window trim, & in this example, all of the trim on the skirts, require foil. It's really not a problem. Steve
  4. Mmmm, Donuts! You had to know it was coming! Steve
  5. Interesting stuff Ron! I especially like the '60 Ford wagon & that beautiful '65 Olds!! Steve
  6. Very nice! I've never really gotten into the early compacts, but I do like the looks of the "fastback" roofed Falcons. Looks great! Steve
  7. Thanks Guys! Thanks Frank. # 6 is an AMT 1961 Buick Invicta that I finished back in November. Thanks for the compliment Scott, but in light of your post, I think I'll keep my address to myself. Steve
  8. Thanks Bill, but my guess is you're talking about an old annual? I was just making the point with Frank that the Trumpeter hardtop kit was so bad, yet the convertible looks good, & if I were to build the Trumpeter kit, A body swap would probably be in order. I have an annual '60 Bonneville hardtop that I hope to build in the future. I wouldn't want to deprive you of one of your beloved convertibles for no reason. Steve
  9. That's what's called a good old fashioned "Butt woopin'"! Steve
  10. I made a Styrofoam stand too. I broke a piece of it off of some packaging material! Steve
  11. Not my genre, but all very impressive stuff Harry! That '36 Mercedes really reaches out & grabs ya! Steve
  12. Ditto. Usually just a small piece of tape wadded up on the end of a tooth pick. Steve
  13. All I would really need to find is the appropriate convertible parts, ie. the body, top boot, etc. I have an original annual to build a hardtop with. I need to do that soon. The '60 Bonneville has been one of my favorite cars since the first time I saw one when I was just a kid. The bright red on yours really makes it stand out! Surprisingly, bright red was not an available color in the '60 Pontiac lineup. Unfortunate, as it sure looks great in that color. I've labored over a color choice for mine when I build it. I really don't care for many of the '60 Pontiac colors.......maybe copper would look nice. Steve
  14. Maybe not a lot finished, but what you did get done is top notch! The '55 Nomad is looking sweet! I've been wanting to build one for years! If there was only more time to get them all done! Steve
  15. Great stuff! I particularly like the '48 Chevy & 53 Ford! Beautiful work! Steve
  16. Nice stuff! Looking forward to the Desoto. I've always loved that body style! Steve
  17. Looks great Frank! Just a warning to anyone who may be tempted to buy the hardtop version of this kit.......Don't waste your money! That's where most of the criticism of this kit comes from. The proportions of the roof are way out of wack! From the looks of yours Frank, I really wish I would have bought the convertible years ago when I bought my hardtop. Nice work! Steve
  18. You know what I think Al! All right up my alley! Nice stuff!! Steve
  19. Thanks guys! Ludwig, I have a lot of options for 2016, but most likely I will try to get some kits that I've had sitting in the que patiently waiting their turn. First off of course will be the '65 Monaco I'm building now, & if last year was any indication, that leaves possibly 6 more. These are the ones I'm planning on. 1966 Chrysler 300 1967 Ford Galaxie 1967 Pontiac Bonneville 1967 Plymouth Fury 1961 Jimmy Flintstone resin Oldsmobile 88 I'm not sure about the last one. Maybe a '60 Bonneville, '59 Oldsmobile, or a '59-'60 Lincoln. Steve
  20. I managed 7 builds this past year. A little off the mark of where I would like to be, given the number of projects on the roster, but not too bad. Steve
  21. I guess I just thought that some differing opinions might start some actual discussion rather than 30 posts saying "I agree". Have a nice Christmas guys! Steve
  22. Don't get too defensive guys. I don't have a problem with the thread. Anything having to do with modeling is a legitimate issue on this forum. Whenever you start a topic you have to know that there will be all sorts of differing opinions. My only point is, as Mike stated in his post, people have "different versions of fun". So wouldn't the same be true of "better"? I think lobster is better than prime rib, but I'll bet that there would be those that will disagree. So, continue on. I think that all of the items that JC mentioned are legitimate areas that a person "might" want to consider to improve his builds, but omitting one of them does not necessarily make that build less "better" than another. Possibly a better name for the thread would have been, "how to make your builds more competitive in a contest" or something along those lines. Steve
  23. Bingo! I agree that there are things that all of us can do to improve, but becoming obsessive takes the fun out of everything. I don't want to be a buzz kill, but I don't worry a whole lot about being 100% accurate on every aspect of a project. I let it be what it is, a model kit, & just enjoy building them the way I want to. Of course, that's not to say that we should stop trying to improve, but improve for "yourself", not for anyone else. Steve
  24. I have done the same with some people on the forum. If I have parts that I don't need & know I will never use, & there is someone who is in need of them, I have no problem giving them up free of charge. Hell, I don't even worry about postage. On the subject of who is acceptable to receive an obsolete kit, I agree, that's really not my place to say. I personally cringe a little when someone chops up a vintage kit & customizes it, but that's just my issue. I have no say over what a person does with "their property" once it's in their hands, & that's the way it should be. If you want to sell them at astronomical prices, part them out, or bury them in your back yard for that matter, that's up to the individual. I believe we still live in a free country.........or at least some semblance there of. Steve
  25. I would love to see a section just dedicated to "vintage plastic" as well, Steve
