Scale model inaccuracies
mikemodeler replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
C'mon Harry, you should know by know that Palmer kits need a little work to be correct! I agree, having to remove mold line and injection marks on new kits shouldn't be a long process given the modern tooling processes. -
1960 -1966 Chevy Long Bed
mikemodeler replied to 502's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Not yet but Casey is working on some parts for one. -
Two things recently have irked me. 1. Got a call today from an extended automobile warranty company. Between the guy not speaking very clear English and mispronouncing my name, I was irritated but then when he insisted the warranty on my wife's car had expired and I ABSOLUTELY needed an extended warranty, that was when I hung up. 2. Customer service at certain stores. I needed a part for our dryer and went to the Sears Parts and Service Center, with part number and model number in hand. I even had the old part with the part number right on it, so it was pretty much foolproof. I get there, the well meaning older gentleman working there insisted on looking it up in his computer, "just to make sure". Showed him my piece of paper with all of the information that I had written down from the same website and he still wanted to make sure it was right because he didn't want me to have to make a second trip, ya know, in case I was wrong. 10 long minutes later he walks over to the bin and gets the part for me and then takes another 10 minutes trying to figure out how to ring up the sale. He hands me the part, the receipt and my change and I notice that the part was in a plastic bag that had been opened and then taped up. I told him I was going to exchange it for one that hadn't been opened, and that's when he tried to assure me there was nothing wrong with it. I exchanged it while he was going on and on and my comeback was that I wanted a new piece because, ya know, I didn't want to have to make a second trip! I swear, I used to frequent Sears but in the last year or so I find myself NOT going there because the customer service has become so poor and the selection has gone downhill. I was going to complain about the weather but it was beautiful today, 75 and sunny. A week ago it was 35 and 8" of snow on the ground!

Perry's Dodge Ram 4x4 conversion kit
mikemodeler replied to Sportabout's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I just checked an AMT Snap Fast Tahoe kit and that front end is identical, so it is NOT a Dodge 4wd set up. I might have an AMT Escalade kit in the stash and will check it to see if that front end is in there. -
Perry's Dodge Ram 4x4 conversion kit
mikemodeler replied to Sportabout's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
There is a topic here already on the problems with Perry's Resin so I will refrain from bringing it up again. That said, I don't recall there being a kit version of a Dodge 4wd set up for the late model truck and am wondering if that resin piece shown is from a GM truck modified to fit the Dodge? I have a couple of the Ram VTS pickups and would like one of these as well. I will dig around in the stash later tonight and see what I can find...... -

I would just spray some rhino lining on the bottom of the doors instead of touching up the paint job. That is looking very nice! -
Revell announces new line of snap kits
mikemodeler replied to gasman's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
If it wasn't for the Revell Snap-Fast kits, my display case would be pretty empty! I have had a Revell 69 Camaro full detail glue kit waiting to be finished for over 15 years now, but have finished 7 of the same car in the snap line in the last 3 years! It's that final assembly and modelers ADD kicking in! A quick spray bomb paint job, some detail painting and maybe a wheel swap and I am done! Any attempts to bring new blood into this hobby have to be viewed as a good thing. Let's face it, if Revell DIDN'T attempt to attract new modelers, we'd be complaining about that! -
Thanks for the replies, how clean are his body castings? I realize all need some work to be ready to build but are they resin blobs or close to styrene kit like quality? I saw the half cab Bronco and am intrigued! Thanks!

So my father-in-law from Chicago books a trip to Charlotte at Christmas time to come visit us. As January wears on, he is tired of the snow and looking forward to visiting us in search of warmer weather and no snow. Last Friday he was to leave for Charlotte and his flight was delayed because of snow.....IN CHARLOTTE ! He gets in a couple hours later than originally scheduled but does make it. Last night he printed off his boarding pass to return to Chicago lamenting leaving here because we are having a warm up into the 60's! Two hours after printing his boarding pass he gets a message that his flight to Chicago on Tuesday morning has been cancelled due to weather ! He does get on a later flight this evening but he mentioned something about just staying (ain't happening!) until the snow melts in Chicago. Looking at that list Harry, I guess I survived 6 of the snowiest winters in Chicago history and it would have been 8 if I hadn't moved 9 years ago. You all have my sympathy as I can honestly say I don't miss it. We got 8 inches of the stuff last week and it is gone thanks to the sun and warmer temperatures.

Don't tell him that VCG resins offers that cap. Manny also has a resin copy of the solid side topper that was in the AMT Chevy snap kits.

I REALLY like that color Jim! Nice touch with the decals and details!

Looking great, I would shoot some dullcote on the wheels, otherwise it is near perfect! -
Revell announces new line of snap kits
mikemodeler replied to gasman's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The glass is either half full or half empty. Any attempt to bring new faces to this hobby should be looked upon as a good thing, however there will always be some that find fault with that. I am just as excited to see Revell's effort to attract new modelers as I am about Meng's upcoming F-350 kit! -
I would rather a model company release the information at a model contest/show & the internet than at a toy or hobby show. Back in the day when many retailers carried models and it was important for the companies to show their wares to the buyers of these retailers, I am sure they could justify the cost. Today, spend the money on other areas of advertising or promotion, I am sure they will get a better bang for their buck!

Thanks Casey, I thought I had seen a post from the owner.

I saw in another topic a reference to Kustom Resin and was wondering if anyone has had any experiences to relate? I noticed they are in Nashville and that has me wondering if it is the old AF/X Resin? www.kustomresin.com Thanks!

It happens to all of us. With the winter most of us have had across the country, one would think we all got tons built being stuck inside! -
Model Kits on Sale>?66 Nove Pro Street
mikemodeler replied to booboo60's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
One can use the weekly coupons for Michaels or Hobby Lobby to save some money. Check out Plastic-Models.com as they always have specials/discounts like free shipping or money off your order. I am sure there are others that have similar deals. -
Mid '70s Chevy rescue van Round 2
mikemodeler replied to LongRoofNut's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Considering the windows are pretty simple to create, what if someone were to offer a template for a window van? One could trace an outline and then using some basic tools cut out the windows, no? -
Price is a secondary consideration for me in the case of this model, I have waited for a decent late model truck too long to let a price of $40, 50 or 60 scare me off. I won't be buying a case of them but at least 2 or 3.

Not aware of any resin cast kits, there might be some parts (grilles & bumpers) out there in resin to convert the AMT pickup to a '69. Hopefully the upcoming Ford Pickup kits (67-72 model years) will be successful and spur someone to tool up a new version of these classic Chevy trucks.

Looks like a nice kit Casey!
