I remember going to the Brat Stop and seeing bands in my younger years! Good food and lots of beer! Jim- order your Portillo's online!

John, Sometimes you have to take the good with the bad and in this case maybe as the "new guy" you can work in the background while others get their faces in front of the camera! If you are doing re-wire jobs and pulling radiators, that can't be as interesting as some of the other stuff. And if you do end up on camera, at least you are getting paid for it and not losing money like you would if you were still at the dealership!

Thank you Jim, and all of the other Vietnam Vets. I remember watching the evening news as a kid and getting updates on the war as we ate dinner. Many of my oldest brother and sister's friends served and made the ultimate sacrifice, others returned to a less-than-friendly environment, a real sad part of American history.

Honest resin caster's
mikemodeler replied to BubbaBrown's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
VCG resins is a great company, Craig is a forum member and I have had nothing but great, fast service from him. I can't speak for the others you mentioned other than some forum members here have said good things about them. -
New "History of the Eagles" documentary DVD
mikemodeler replied to Harry P.'s topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Is this DVD the same documentary that was playing on HBO last year? I did see something about them and it was a very interesting look at the band. Didn't realize how much feuding went on in that band but am glad they patched things up. -
Very nice ! Like everything about it, need to get mine done!

AMT Chevelle chassis question..
mikemodeler replied to Rob Hall's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I remember reading that a better chassis to use under these cars could be found in the AMT'69 Olds Cutlass as it was more detailed and actually fit better underneath it. A shame that one must use two kits to get one decent model but I guess it depends on who is building the kit and how accurate you want the finished model to be. -
Bandit Resins
mikemodeler replied to Michael in Illinois's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Kenny is most likely very busy getting wraps and decals ready for local racers and the start of racing season. Bandit Resins is a side business for him and sometimes the demands of it are more than he wants. I spoke with him at a show awhile back and between the graphics business and resin casting, it doesn't leave a lot of time for model building and enjoyment of the hobby. -
Having moved from the area nearly 9 years ago, I can attest to issue of "missing" certain foods. I have discovered that getting them shipped here to Charlotte is a possibility and while it isn't cheap, it can be nice to have that Portillo's beef, a Vienna dog & sesame bun, Malnatti's pizza & Eli's Cheesecake! It is not the same as actually visiting those eateries, but can cure some homesickness.

Thanks for posting Dave, I am thinking about picking this kit up. Looks like the seats are molded in, any other details one should look out for? Thanks again. Mike

A box from Modelroundup with the new AMT 70 Chevelle, the Mobeius truck wheel kit, and a couple of Pegasus wheel kits. If the weather would stay nice for more than a day or two I might get some stuff painted!

what color dominates your builds?
mikemodeler replied to tubbs's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Primer gray. I can't seem to get past the beginning of model building before moving on to starting another kit. My WIP pile grows and if it wasn't for snap fast models, I probably would only have about a dozen completed builds. Most of my completed builds are darker colors- black, gray, blue- but I also went on a red and orange streak and have about 3 each of those colors. -
As of late, I would have to say it pertains to the trading and wanted section here. People are either so vague it becomes a series of PMs back and forth to only discover what they have is a pile of parts for a long OOP kit or they want to unload their built dusty Sci-Fi kit for some new release, despite being told otherwise. I try to be as straightforward as possible with my trades. If I state I am interested in GM Muscle cars, please don't ask me if will take a partially built, brush painted 66 Mustang in trade for a sealed Revell Camaro Yenko kit, it ain't happening! In regards to the table thefts at swap meets, I always have another person with me at the shows (usually my wife) and never leave the table unattended, whether it is setting up, during the show or loading up afterwards.

Given the advance pictures of the kit, I would say it probably is spot on. Look at the recent Revell 77 GMC pickup truck with all of it's inaccuracies and that truck has a MSRP of at least $25. Crude bed design, interior tub that is somewhat close, wrong wheels, incorrect intake on engine. Yes, I have bought more than a few of them, mainly for the plow and other pieces but the fact that it has issues will probably prevent me from building more than 3, despite owning close to 10 of them. And I do realize that I am comparing a kit from over 35 years ago to something more modern, but the discussion is on price. If we want our kits to be more detailed and accurate, we have to be willing to pay for them! The Meng F350 probably won't be bought in large numbers in the US but maybe across the globe they will. I believe many are exported to other countries due to their status as workhorses and load carrying abilities. Is $75 a lot for a model kit? It sure is, can only think of 1 model that I have ever bought that was more than that, the last issue of the Revell Can Do Wrecker. Will I buy more than one of this F350 kit? Maybe. Like others have stated, this truck has a lot to offer but also is limited in what one can do with it. I need something like this for a Galaxie LTD trailer, and possibly a couple of other ideas in my head.

Ramp truck plans
mikemodeler replied to Belair2k's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I will have to check but I remember that being in an old issue of Scale Auto or Car Modeler magazine and I think I made copies of the article. If I do have the copies, I would be happy to send them out to others. -
Keep in mind too that there are so many variations of pickups today versus the "old days" of models. Extended cabs, crew cabs, duallies, long beds, short beds, 4wd, 2wd. The list of possibilities is huge and trying to determine which one will be a hit is not easy. As modelers we expect these new kits to be well detailed as opposed to what we got in the 60s through 80s. There was a discussion on here about how some pickup kit beds were lacking detail, the interiors were generic, inaccurate engines and drivelines, wheels, etc. Now look at the Meng F350 kit that has a MSRP of $75. Looking at the test shots it appears to be well detailed and there will be an outcry if it isn't, many due to price but also because we are demanding. If the kit manufacturers could tool up a standard cab long bed Silverado and sell it for $20, how many of us would actually buy one? How many of us would use the following list as excuses as to why they didn't buy one: A. It should have options for 2 & 4wd B. I drive an extended cab C. I want a crew cab D. It doesn't have the engine I want E. Mine is a shortbed and I want the factory 20 inch wheels The list could go on and on. Maybe with 3D printing we could have bodies and frames made to order for our individual tastes!

So with shipping it will be comparable to the Mega Hobby price? And having to wait for it to come from China? I think it might be a wash to buy these in the US. I would guess that there will be some other US distributors selling these as well as Mega.

Late start at work today......
mikemodeler replied to The70judgeman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wow! That sure looks scary for the truck driver! Was he able to drive that truck away or did the wrecker haul it? That wrecker looks like the recent Revell 359 kit. -
Congrats John, it isn't as hard to go to work if it is doing something we enjoy as opposed to something that drains us, and it sounds like you have found it! Enjoy the new job and share some pictures of the 1:1 builds when you get a chance!

1977 Chevette - The Rest of the Story! 12/10/2014
mikemodeler replied to Tom Geiger's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I recently picked up a 77 Chevette in a trade (unbuilt) and haven't decided which way to go with it, but I like yours! I am sure your sister-in-law will appreciate it when it's done. -
Mid '70s Chevy rescue van Round 2
mikemodeler replied to LongRoofNut's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
With the above in mind, I will probably NOT build mine in the police or fire version, so if someone wants the decals from my kit, send me a PM and I am sure we can work something out. I really like this kit, gonna have to find some time to build it! -
Saw a resin Powerstroke 7.3L engine on eBay the other day, didn't know if anyone else has seen it or could comment on it. I forget the seller's name but IIRC he had some other resin pieces for sale and some of them looked a little rough. Any comments welcomed!
