  1. Yeah, wouldn't it be nice if kits were $10 and found at every retail store? Keep in mind that shipping kits from China to the US is costly; someone has to develop these kits and they don't work for free;operating a retail store is very expensive, which is why the internet is a cheap alternative;profits from the sales of kits is needed to offer more or new kits; As has been illustrated by others, many other items have risen in cost so it is only natural that models would follow suit.
  2. Technically speaking, the 1978 Model Year trucks were introduced in September of 1977 so that would be correct. As others have said, finding one of the 84 GMC pickups from MPC would yield many of the parts you need.
  3. Harry, Just my two cents but as the owner of several of these kits, I am not going to let someone's perception decide whether or not I should attempt to build them. I bought them because I was excited to have a new pickup kit to build and the initial reviews were very positive. I'd hate to think what state this hobby would be in if we were all scared off by one or two bad views of a kit! Maybe I am more accepting of some flaws in a kit, could be that after over 40 years in this hobby I have yet to see the perfect kit, but either way I am going to get mine built! Hope you had a great Father's Day, I did!
  4. The Mercedes dealer I worked at in the early 80's had several of those body style Unimogs and I was one of the few that got to drive them. They were incredible pieces of machinery, would love to have one! Sure wish that body was available in resin or kit form.
  5. Might be time for me to get one as I have been struggling with taking the glasses off and on when building. Not worried about becoming addicted to it, if I do then maybe I will get more models completed!
  6. NAPA has the A/C Pro on sale for $34.99 and I have been reading here what some of you have been saying about it. 30+ years in the business and one who was ASE certified in several categories, including A/C, I can say this stuff is not intended to be a long term fix, more like a patch. As others have stated, the proper thing to do is a complete diagnostic evaluation of the system to see where the problem is and then repair/replace. My two cents, take it or leave it.
  7. I saw a late model (2012/3) F350 Crew Cab Dually (4WD)with an Utility Box up close yesterday and it was running 17" wheels. I don't know of any wheels that size available in resin or kit form but I believe that the Monogram F350 kit had 16" wheels and the AMT SnapFast Chevy Dually had similar sized wheels. The AMT wheels are available from The Modelhaus as well and to be honest, probably couldn't tell the difference in size at 1:24 scale. If I get a chance tonight to dig out the kits mentioned above and their wheels, I will compare them to the Meng kit wheels/tires to see if they would work. I also have some American Satco Bridgestone tires to use if needed but hopefully the kit tires will work.
  8. Love it! Nice color and well detailed, have several of those kits to build myself, gotta get them on my to do list!
  9. I was able to get a lot painted over the last couple of days, happy because once the heat and humidity set in, I won't be able to get much done paint wise. I will try to get some pictures taken and posted up.
  10. So I have started on this and am puzzled about a few things: 1. The dashboard on my kit seems to angled opposite from the interior tub, any idea on how it goes in? 2. The front suspension had a lot of flash and I think I got it all cleaned up but am not sure if mine will go together as it seems "off". Again, any ideas of assembly sequence? I found an online 1:1 diagram and while it is a help, the kit pieces don't exactly match the picture. 3. There is a transfer case but no driveshafts, has anyone fabricated their own? I was thinking about raiding a kit but wasn't sure which one. I would really love to see a detailed styrene kit (hey Moebius!) because this is a neat truck and would really like to build a couple of them but can't afford to with this resin kit. Thanks in advance!
  11. Actually, they can change the badges on this kit to a F-250 and get another kit out of the tooling pretty cheaply. And it has been speculated, a dual wheel version could be forthcoming. Revell is releasing the F150 Raptor kit this fall, that will have to do unless they plan on a stock F150 next year.
  12. Welcome Glenn, nice to see some new, younger members here. I like your approach and hopefully this will be a place where you learn much! Don't be afraid to post or ask questions, we all are here to share and grow this hobby. You are at that age where girls start to become a distraction, don't let that happen to you! Models are cheaper than a girlfriend and are usually easier to deal with!
  13. "Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue!"
  14. Always thought Bailey was "hot one" on that show. Paging Harry P., please pick up the red courtesy phone, you have a call!
  15. True, and along with Harry's comment about it only being a body, what good is a cheap kit if it requires a ton of work ?
  16. has anyone heard from Harry since he going to fix his opener? just wondering if he is locked in the garage?
  17. That is a safe statement Danno and i agree with you. The kit I am discussing is one I bought off of eBay that was $50 and it did not mention who was casting it, and with your statement in mind, I went ahead and bought the kit. Once I got it, I realized it was cast by JF and it will require quite a bit of work to be even a halfway decent shelf model. I will go back to my old approach to resin- If I can't see it first before buying it, I will pass on it. There are only a couple of resin casters who have earned my trust to buy their product blindly.
  18. If you have a Hobby Lobby nearby, you could probably find something that would work and look realistic. That scratchbuilding is impressive (like all of your work Tom!), sure wish that wrecker was available in plastic!
  19. I just spent 20 minutes working on a JF body, and I would have tossed it had it not been a $50 kit. The thickness and waviness of the kit will render it a curbside with no interior detail as I don't have the patience to polish a turd. I have this El Camino kit and appreciate the heads up as I was thinking about building it. I will go over it a little closer and decide if it is buildable.
  20. Hate to be rude but go through this topic and you will find the answer. In short, yes, but there will be two different kits.
  21. As far as i know he is, although I don't know if he still offers the Impala chassis, he has focused more on medium and heavy duty truck conversions.
  22. Geez Harry, this drama has been building for nearly 3 weeks and you still are going to wait another day to get it fixed? It must not be that big of an issue if you can spend all this time checking/ordering/testing all of the aforementioned parts before finally fixing it! I am as cheap as the next guy and love the challenge of fixing things but I can promise you I would not have taken 3 weeks to get this done, one weekend at most! I will be sure to tune in tomorrow to get an update on "As the garage door closes"
  23. Those wheels were also offered by Atlas. I have a friend with a correct 1:1 69 Yenko that has those wheels and they are Atlas. They look the same and the Revell 69 Yenko wheels are close enough.
  24. Nice, you'd think he would have corrected the windshield though. Any word on what this conversion kit is running?
  25. if the bike and trailer look half as good as the truck, you will have done them proud! Nice job Jim, real SHINY!
