So I stirred the pot and get called out ....as I expected. I guess my point was that instead of complaining on a forum about a kit that has yet to be released, why not contact the manufacturer and offer your opinion of what is wrong with the soon to be released kit so they can get it right? I am not blind to see some possible flaws with the kit but do understand there are limitations with what can be done when scaling down to make a kit and realize some sacrifices in accuracy get made. Of all of the experts who routinely critique all kits and their flaws, I wonder how many actually have experience in a manufacturing environment similar to model kits? How many understand the model kit process? Go ahead and fire away, can't wait to hear the responses...................

Thanks for ruining this kit for me, I was prepared to reward Moebius and Model King for bringing this kit to market but apparently there are flaws with it. JK- If I were to let the resident "experts" keep me from buying kits that are not 100 percent perfect, I would be doing something else with my time and money. I love how people can decide what flaws are present based on some pictures posted on a forum. I would at least have the decency to wait until I had the model in my hand to do a comparison. Maybe they should list out all kits and the corresponding problems, you know, as a public service tip for the uninformed. I am sure this topic will go up in page count quickly as everyone starts chiming in with their comments like "In this day and age of computers.." and "There is no excuse for inaccuracies" instead of being grateful that there is a company out there trying to deliver some new, never offered model kits.

I probably have at least 8 variants of the Revell 69 Camaro, likely more. I also have stocked up on the '77 GMC pickup/snowplow combo as I have plans to put plows on a bunch of kits in the stash, and would conservatively estimate 12 of them. If Hobby Lobby puts them on clearance I will probably buy a bunch more!

To add to your comment Jeff, your nephew can get instant gratification (McDonalds Mentality) with his video game whereas building a model may take him several hours over several days, and then all he has is a static display. I would like to think the Revell/Gearz contest pushed a few people into the model aisles and maybe brought some back to the hobby while exposing the hobby to some new customers. As has been mentioned here in other posts, models once were everywhere and today there are just a few places to find them. Revell does have their "Make and Take" program and it is nice to see many NNL type events including this into their shows as hopefully it can encourage some new blood into the hobby, although I would bet most of the kids taking part in these already have an interest in model building. The effort Ford took with their 2015 Mustang unveiling along with Revell having the basic kits there to build most likely had parents and kids alike excited about the car.

Not sure where it will lead, but my wife recently taught a summer camp class at the YMCA that was titled "Build It" and over the course of 5 days these 3rd-5th graders built several things, including a Revell Space Shuttle and '34 Ford street rod. She said they were having fun with the models and kids in other classes looked on with envy. The inspiration for the class came to her from going to a couple of shows with me and seeing some younger kids displaying models and her understanding that kids need to do more than rely on electronic entertainment devices. I think there might be a kid or two from those classes that continues on to build models. My wife was certain to mention the weekly ad from Hobby Lobby where they could save 40% and also the local Hobbytown USA where the owner said he would give them a discount if they mentioned "YMCA" but only on models, not R/C! I don't think there is any magic formula to get today's kids into the hobby; they're either into cars or they aren't. I had friends who didn't really have the patience to build back in the '70s and weren't really car guys.

Nice job on that truck bash Chuck, is this something that would be article worthy for a model magazine? -
Newly reissued Revell BRE Datsun 510 Racecar kit
mikemodeler replied to '70 Grande's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I remember seeing these cars race at Road America in Elkhart Lake WI back in the 70's, these bring back some memories! I do recall seeing Paul Newman behind the wheel and couldn't understand why an actor was driving a racecar! Definitely want to get one of these, I'd get a couple if they were available in stock form. -
A Happy and Safe Independence Day Holiday To All.
mikemodeler replied to Ramfins59's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Very True Nick, I do remember when most stores and businesses were closed on many of the holidays, now it seems the only day off many workers get is Christmas day! While it is important to "fly da flag" today, I fly one every day as a reminder of my freedom and the brave soldiers who defend it. -
Chicago Hobby shops
mikemodeler replied to prostreeter69's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Jon, If you are up for a little more travel, head up to Milwaukee and visit a couple of good shops there- Greenfield News & Hobby, Model Empire, & Happy Hobby (?) They are full of kits and other related items and Model Empire is more like the "old time" hobby shops with all kinds of goodies. Sadly, the couple of good hobby shops mentioned here (Al's and Venture Hobbies) were once destinations for us modelers but like many others, have gone out of business. -
NASCAR Nationwide Camaro body
mikemodeler replied to martinfan5's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Might be interested in building one of these, is there a suggested donor chassis? -
50 years after starting out in a little trailer this man will be rich beyond his imagination. Sure hope they don't screw up a good thing!

I am planning on being there, I missed the last 2 years and am not going to make it 3 in a row!

The Modelhaus offers a replacement chassis for this kit that allows you to use the engine and suspension pieces from an AMT kit (SS454 is the most likely given it's big engine) to build this into a fully detailed model. It is shown in their catalog (2013) for $12.00 and for another $2.00 they also offer mirrors for the kit. These kits do build up easily and are very accurate in their appearance. It would be a nice kit to have back on the shelf.

Tamyia TS-13 is back
mikemodeler replied to martinfan5's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Harry, The labeling issues mentioned in this topic are related to many chemicals, not just Tamiya. Many automotive chemicals require special labeling and some are made specifically for certain markets like California. It has to do with air and water pollution and as we all know, once it starts in California, it spreads to the rest of the country! One of the latest things to hit the automotive market is removing copper from brake pads as the dust from them can pollute our water when the runoff from rain enters the ecosystem. As to the "love" of TS-13, as others have mentioned if you master the application of it (and all Tamiya paints), then you can get some nice results. I have been using the Testors clear and am generally satisfied with the look, but will pick up a can of TS-13 soon and check it out as it has been at least 4 years since I last used it. -
Will GM's problems ever end?
mikemodeler replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Unfortunately Harry the US government has been in the subsidizing business for many years, so don't think the money "invested" in Chrysler or GM a couple of years ago was their first foray into "helping" the free market enterprise system. The GM bailout had financial, political and social reasons that I won't go into for fear of violating forum rules. I do agree that the coverup and lying is a sad indictment of how a once proud company has fallen. -
very nice and well detailed. I like the idea of a modern wrecker, surprised we haven't seen more of them.

Will GM's problems ever end?
mikemodeler replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yep, turned on the TV to check the stock market and they were breaking in with news of GM stock trading being halted to see what effect these latest recalls would have on it's price! Pretty sad when the reporters at CNBC were discussing GM and it's recall woes and several of them said they wouldn't consider GM if they were new car shopping! What was even more surprising is that supposedly GM new car sales are UP despite all of this negative publicity, someone said it was because consumers view these problems as "being part of the OLD GM!" and not the new cars available today! -
Danny, I was looking for something a little smaller, closer to a 33" tire to give it a slight aggressive look instead of those wimpy Continental tires in the kit. I do have a plan to build one of those with a lift so I will probably be ordering some of those!

There seemed to be quite a few positive reviews on that page, have you checked any Mustang forums Harry? I would think a forum on late model Mustangs would have several topics on them.
