  1. Bob, Glad you have your opinion on these trucks and Moebius kits and your willingness to share them with us. It would seem, based on your statements, that there are numerous flaws with them, to the point of not being buildable, in your opinion, to render a satisfactory replica of the real car. If you could, please PM me a list of recent kits that are up to your standards so I can see what I might be missing when it comes to reviewing a kit. I don't want to derail this thread and keep it on topic of the upcoming Ford F series pickups.
  2. I have wanted to do this with a '70 Chevelle to create a '70 El Camino. I had the opportunity to buy a 1:1 back in '82 real cheap and passed, wish I could go back in time!
  3. Tower Hobbies has paints and items, as does Micro Mark. They often have sales or promotions like free shipping so it helps save on the cost, plus you can do it from the comfort of your house without spending money on gas! Tower has a promo right now with free shipping on orders over $25 (Code is 01A13), used it last night on a kit and some paint.
  4. I have built a few models for friends as an exercise to hone my skills and do something nice for them but would never want to build a kit for money as I think that would take the fun out of it. It's funny that people who are not involved in a hobby or industry think those of us who are should be happy to do something for free or next to nothing. I work in the auto parts business and many times get asked about cars and what could be wrong with them. I also get the "can you use your discount" to buy the parts cheaper question and my answer is "No, they only allow me to buy parts for my own cars and they have that information on file". The best was about 12 years ago when I was able to buy parts for others at a discount. My wife's cousin not only thought she could pay me when she had the money, she thought my price included installation! LOL! Imagine her surprise when I asked for the money upfront and her reply was "We're family, don't you trust me?" That was the last time I did anyone any favors, told them all they shut the service down due to abuse and yet none of them thought they might be the cause of it!
  5. I think the resin guys cover a lot of the older stuff Harry. I would imagine it is very time consuming to research and develop a big truck kit, with or without the factory help and finding an accurate, older 1:1 truck might not be as easy. As far as licensing goes, I am sure it is still an issue.
  6. Thanks for clarifying the situation Dave. While it is disappointing to hear that a new truck kit is not in the near future, I certainly understand the reasons why are the same- time and money! Really looking forward to what is already planned, and of course like others I have ideas for other new kits, just hope you guys keep churning them out!
  7. Not sure how many of you have "liked" HotRodHarrys.com Facebook page but lately they have been letting folks post pictures of models in addition to 1:1 cars. Lots of neat models and cars, suggest you check it out!
  8. This is why I like the fact that they have a presence here on the forum. So much was stated and speculated without firsthand knowledge and then someone who actually is involved clears it up. Thanks for clarifying the situation Dave and I am looking forward to this kit. I appreciate the effort to "make things right" with this and all of your kits, shows me there is hope for our hobby.
  9. Typically in order for one to improve their skills, their shortcomings need to be pointed out. That said, if you are to offer constructive criticism and do so in a polite manner, there shouldn't be a problem. The trouble is that on an internet forum it is sometimes hard to interpret one's intentions as a post is viewed as a one-sided conversation. A simple solution would be to send the person a Personal Message on this forum offering your tips so as to not create a situation that can be viewed as overly critical.
  10. Brett, I was generalizing because I was going off of memory on some recent topics on Moebius kits and issues associated with them.
  11. While I would like to see the new releases be a lot closer to the actual vehicle it is modeled after, I also understand that some limitations exist when it comes to the tooling. While I strive for perfection in anything I undertake, I also realize I am human and sometimes I settle for "close enough". Given the costs to bring an all new kit to market, I can see where multiple revisions in the spirit of "making it right" can affect the profitability. I think Moebius has demonstrated that given the opportunity to fix issues, they step up and do so. In the meantime, the other two model companies usually let things go and let us modelers to sort it out. I have been waiting a long time for this kit and will buy several, flaws and all.
  12. So I stirred the pot and get called out ....as I expected. I guess my point was that instead of complaining on a forum about a kit that has yet to be released, why not contact the manufacturer and offer your opinion of what is wrong with the soon to be released kit so they can get it right? I am not blind to see some possible flaws with the kit but do understand there are limitations with what can be done when scaling down to make a kit and realize some sacrifices in accuracy get made. Of all of the experts who routinely critique all kits and their flaws, I wonder how many actually have experience in a manufacturing environment similar to model kits? How many understand the model kit process? Go ahead and fire away, can't wait to hear the responses...................
  13. Thanks for ruining this kit for me, I was prepared to reward Moebius and Model King for bringing this kit to market but apparently there are flaws with it. JK- If I were to let the resident "experts" keep me from buying kits that are not 100 percent perfect, I would be doing something else with my time and money. I love how people can decide what flaws are present based on some pictures posted on a forum. I would at least have the decency to wait until I had the model in my hand to do a comparison. Maybe they should list out all kits and the corresponding problems, you know, as a public service tip for the uninformed. I am sure this topic will go up in page count quickly as everyone starts chiming in with their comments like "In this day and age of computers.." and "There is no excuse for inaccuracies" instead of being grateful that there is a company out there trying to deliver some new, never offered model kits.
  14. Hey resin casters, this crew cab could be a good seller!
  15. Had one of those Harry, along with many other trucks and cars!
  16. I probably have at least 8 variants of the Revell 69 Camaro, likely more. I also have stocked up on the '77 GMC pickup/snowplow combo as I have plans to put plows on a bunch of kits in the stash, and would conservatively estimate 12 of them. If Hobby Lobby puts them on clearance I will probably buy a bunch more!
  17. Mine too Harry! Probably one of the reasons kid love Legos is that they can take them apart easily and build something new, try that with one of your Poocher kits! Imagine if Revell or Round2 had a store or destination for us like Lego Land ???
  18. To add to your comment Jeff, your nephew can get instant gratification (McDonalds Mentality) with his video game whereas building a model may take him several hours over several days, and then all he has is a static display. I would like to think the Revell/Gearz contest pushed a few people into the model aisles and maybe brought some back to the hobby while exposing the hobby to some new customers. As has been mentioned here in other posts, models once were everywhere and today there are just a few places to find them. Revell does have their "Make and Take" program and it is nice to see many NNL type events including this into their shows as hopefully it can encourage some new blood into the hobby, although I would bet most of the kids taking part in these already have an interest in model building. The effort Ford took with their 2015 Mustang unveiling along with Revell having the basic kits there to build most likely had parents and kids alike excited about the car.
  19. Not sure where it will lead, but my wife recently taught a summer camp class at the YMCA that was titled "Build It" and over the course of 5 days these 3rd-5th graders built several things, including a Revell Space Shuttle and '34 Ford street rod. She said they were having fun with the models and kids in other classes looked on with envy. The inspiration for the class came to her from going to a couple of shows with me and seeing some younger kids displaying models and her understanding that kids need to do more than rely on electronic entertainment devices. I think there might be a kid or two from those classes that continues on to build models. My wife was certain to mention the weekly ad from Hobby Lobby where they could save 40% and also the local Hobbytown USA where the owner said he would give them a discount if they mentioned "YMCA" but only on models, not R/C! I don't think there is any magic formula to get today's kids into the hobby; they're either into cars or they aren't. I had friends who didn't really have the patience to build back in the '70s and weren't really car guys.
  20. Nice job on that truck bash Chuck, is this something that would be article worthy for a model magazine?
