I was at the Rock Hill SC Hobby Lobby yesterday and noticed some empty shelves, so I checked the tags. It looks like they will be carrying the new Revell '67 Camaro and re-issued AMT/Round 2 '68 Camaro, among others! I did notice that they have the Revell '69 Camaro ZL-1 still on the shelf at regular price while I have seen some NC Hobby Lobby stores mark it down, so who knows what is going on there!?!?! UPDATE: I was at the Hobby Lobby in Matthews NC tonight and they also had a spot on the shelf for the upcoming Revell Raptor F150 and the reissued Pepsi '75 Chevelle NASCAR. To avoid this becoming another rant against Hobby Lobby, I will lock it as I posted for information purposes only.

I wouldn't worry about a blade for the mower, unless it is displayed on it's side no one will see it. Check out Scale Equipment Limited, they have some stuff like a wheelbarrow and riding lawn mower available in resin. Your push mower would go great with a riding tractor I have from an old Indy car kit. Put me down for 3!

Revell 1969 COPO Camaro ZL-1 - Hugger Orange - Post Fixed
mikemodeler replied to RandyB.'s topic in Model Cars
Looks very nice, I have several of those first gen Camaros painted Hugger Orange, can't help myself ! -
We have a couple of Christmas shoppes here in Charlotte that have Christmas on display all year 'round! I agree that it is silly how the holidays all run together and the Christmas decorations are out too early, but like the religious stuff, if you don't want to see it, turn away!

Two ways to figure it out Chuck: 1. Calculate the cost of the resin and parts needed and add a couple of bucks for your time. 2. Sell them for $15 and hope you get enough buyers and you make a few $$ in the process. Most people making & selling resin cast items do so for minimal profit, although I hope they all make something as it can be time consuming. Might be worth asking someone who is already casting items their advice; who knows, maybe they will do it for you ? It would be a neat thing to have for a diorama.

Would these 3 sell even at high prices?
mikemodeler replied to robertburns's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Speaking for myself, I would say that those are unique subjects and might be priced out of reach for many modelers. The Future Liner is a cool subject but not many people I know can spend $400 for a kit. The Corvair is nice, but IMHO has a somewhat limited appeal. The Caprice is probably your best shot at a good seller but keep in mind that Modelhaus does a similar Impala kit for $68. Always good to see new subjects available, hope they do well for you. -
Chuck, Cast a couple of copies and I'm a buyer!

That would look great in a garage diorama or in the back of pickup or trailer.

Very nice, congrats on the purchase!

Apparently you are not familiar with the Hobby Lobby story. If you are interested, Google them and you will see that the ownership has deep religious beliefs and yes, has some Christian related items in their store. They are the only national retail store that I am aware of that is closed on Sundays, specifically so their employees can spend time with their families and worship at church. If you find Hobby Lobby offensive, I would advise you find a different store as they aren't going to change their business because of you.

This picture convinced me that I need to add this kit to my buy list. Something sinister about that car in black.

The old Goodyear Wrangle A/Ts ! I might have to get one of these just because I like compact pickups and it would go well with the Toyota, Luv and Dodge pickups in the to do pile.

Charlie, Welcome to the forum and be sure to look around, plenty to learn! Hobby Lobby will have a decent selection of some of the current kits available, be sure to print off their 40% off coupon or if you have a smart phone, have it ready at the checkout. There are a bunch of items to look at for detailing in a Hobby Lobby, be sure to walk the aisles.

More than I should! Like Richard (Ramfins) stated, I make sure the bills are paid and then scrounge around for some "play money". Like many here, I have a lot of models to build without buying another one and plenty of paint/glue/foil and anything else I might need. I am guilty of checking out Hobby Lobby and their clearance section, I think I have a couple extra Revell '69 Camaros of various issues and hope I can resist buying anymore!

Model Building Stereotypes
mikemodeler replied to MustangGuy23's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Over the years I have had other hobbies but came back to model building when I decided I needed something that could be done while my children were small. I used to play softball and buying new shoes and maybe a bat every season added up, not to mention the Aleve and bandages for the scrapes! Playing a couple of nights a week also meant some bar tabs that today would equal 3-4 kits a week, BEFORE the Hobby Lobby coupon! I also bowled in a league, and 36 weeks of bowling times $25 a night added up too. Now, my wife likes to check on me and asks what car I am working on, and when I explain "all of them!" she looks at my bench and says "How do you know what goes where?" The upside is that she developed a summer camp for our YMCA that is called "Build It" and one day is spent building the Revell '34 Ford snap kit! She got the inspiration for it from me and I got a leftover kit last month! The kids love it and several will be in the class again next week after being in it last month. Yeah, some look at us as nerds but some friends of mine who are excellent bodymen, mechanics and painters all built kits when they were little. -
It was brought to my attention
mikemodeler replied to futurattraction's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Most resin casters do it for the hobby and aren't in it for big bucks. I would suspect that even the Modelhaus kits that run upwards of $100 have quite a bit of cost involved as they tend to be fairly complete and accurate, compared to a $15 body only from Jimmy Flintstone. I am sure resin casters will jump in here but haven't about many of them taking luxury vacations or buying expensive cars as a result of the huge profits in their business, the ones I have met are model builders who do it to support their habit! -
Put me down for about 4-5 sets Danny, those look nice!

Getting into it, questions. (long read)

Keep in mind Harry you are talking to a minor here and he will need his parent's help to purchase items on the internet, but a great suggestion! -

If you are leaning more towards the Japanese cars, then the US kit companies will have very limited offerings for you. HLJ and other like companies will have more of what you are after but that will be mail order and will require a credit card. I would pay attention to the trading section and put your wants on there. You might be able to find someone with a kit you want willing to trade for kit that is more easily found by you and therefore a trade could be done. There are a couple of companies that deal in selling kits from people's personal collections and may have some kits that you are interested in. Fred Sterns, Dean's Hobby Stop, JiminOhio are among the ones that come to mind. -
Kerry, My condolences on the passing of your father, I know what you are going through as I lost my Dad almost 10 weeks ago. My prayers to you and your family as you go through the coming days and may the many happy memories keep you all strong.
