I was in the Hobby Lobby in Matthews NC last night and there were quite a few models on clearance. The Revell 69 ZL-1 Camaro, 57 Ford, 50 Olds, and a bunch of Monogram & AMT kits as well. Didn't need another 69 Camaro but couldn't resist! I believe they were marked 40% off, but my guess is they are getting ready for some new releases!

67-72 Chevy/GMC SWB Pick Up
mikemodeler replied to Swifster's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Kenny is working on the molds for this SWB conversion kit, not sure if it is available as of today. -
going to measure the wheels in the Meng F350 kit and see if Danny has any tires to fit them.

Brett, The wife said they have the 34 Ford for their car build later this week and when I told her how easy the '15 Mustang went together for your group, she was disappointed she couldn't get those for this summer. She will definitely get some for the fall classes, and said the kids were showing off today the space shuttles they did build! I suspect that Revell will have a new hot seller with those Mustangs and it should be interesting to see what they follow up with after that!

I remember this one, looks great! -
Thanks for sharing, looks like a lot of happy faces. My wife is teaching some classes at the local YMCA branch this summer and the most popular one is the "Build It!" class. I helped her with the outline for the class and it was inspired by her from watching me build models. She asked her supervisor to contact Revell for the model kits and hopefully they will get those Mustangs and if there happens to be one left over.............................it could end up in my stash! I think she will be doing the class in the fall as an afterschool program due to it's popularity. They build all kinds of stuff but the kids really like the models- who knew? I did speak with the local Hobbytown USA store and they said they would consider a discount for anyone who came in and mentioned the YMCA class.

Extended warranties are a huge profit maker for dealers and that is why they push them. I always question why one would buy a warranty if they thought the car wasn't built with quality? I can see (somewhat) buying one on a used car that you may not know the service history of, but many times they only cover large items like engine and transmission and not the nagging little things like A/C, electrical or fuel systems, all of which can run into the hundreds or more to repair! First car I bought for my wife was Ford Tempo that had been a Budget rental car. Good friend worked at the dealer and suggested I buy the Ford backed warranty for $600, reminding me how rental cars could be driven! That actually paid for itself as we had three repairs done under warranty that would have cost us $1,000+. Haven't bought one since, feel it is cheaper to research the vehicle and stay away from those vehicles with perceived quality issues.

Will GM's problems ever end?
mikemodeler replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
After a bunch more congressional hearings on this matter, GM will be fined and then the civil lawsuits will start from the affected owners and victims. Very sad commentary on how companies handle such issues. The banking industry has been fined into the billions for their part in the 2008 financial meltdown and in a way, this is not much different in that people were harmed by actions and inaction. As Harry said, no one will go to jail, too hard to prove/convince that any one person acted alone or in malice. Sad as I used to be a GM guy and the first couple of vehicles I owned were GM trucks but haven't found any reason to consider them in years and this makes it even harder! -
Yeah, wouldn't it be nice if kits were $10 and found at every retail store? Keep in mind that shipping kits from China to the US is costly; someone has to develop these kits and they don't work for free;operating a retail store is very expensive, which is why the internet is a cheap alternative;profits from the sales of kits is needed to offer more or new kits; As has been illustrated by others, many other items have risen in cost so it is only natural that models would follow suit.

75678? Chev P/U GlueBomb
mikemodeler replied to Belugawrx's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Technically speaking, the 1978 Model Year trucks were introduced in September of 1977 so that would be correct. As others have said, finding one of the 84 GMC pickups from MPC would yield many of the parts you need. -
MENG 1/24 Ford F350 Super Duty Crew Cab: Sneak Peek Pics!
mikemodeler replied to Gregg's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Harry, Just my two cents but as the owner of several of these kits, I am not going to let someone's perception decide whether or not I should attempt to build them. I bought them because I was excited to have a new pickup kit to build and the initial reviews were very positive. I'd hate to think what state this hobby would be in if we were all scared off by one or two bad views of a kit! Maybe I am more accepting of some flaws in a kit, could be that after over 40 years in this hobby I have yet to see the perfect kit, but either way I am going to get mine built! Hope you had a great Father's Day, I did! -
Addiction and Recovery
mikemodeler replied to jbwelda's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Might be time for me to get one as I have been struggling with taking the glasses off and on when building. Not worried about becoming addicted to it, if I do then maybe I will get more models completed! -
Recharge your A/C
mikemodeler replied to cobraman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
NAPA has the A/C Pro on sale for $34.99 and I have been reading here what some of you have been saying about it. 30+ years in the business and one who was ASE certified in several categories, including A/C, I can say this stuff is not intended to be a long term fix, more like a patch. As others have stated, the proper thing to do is a complete diagnostic evaluation of the system to see where the problem is and then repair/replace. My two cents, take it or leave it. -
Dually wheels and tires?
mikemodeler replied to zaina's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I saw a late model (2012/3) F350 Crew Cab Dually (4WD)with an Utility Box up close yesterday and it was running 17" wheels. I don't know of any wheels that size available in resin or kit form but I believe that the Monogram F350 kit had 16" wheels and the AMT SnapFast Chevy Dually had similar sized wheels. The AMT wheels are available from The Modelhaus as well and to be honest, probably couldn't tell the difference in size at 1:24 scale. If I get a chance tonight to dig out the kits mentioned above and their wheels, I will compare them to the Meng kit wheels/tires to see if they would work. I also have some American Satco Bridgestone tires to use if needed but hopefully the kit tires will work. -
Love it! Nice color and well detailed, have several of those kits to build myself, gotta get them on my to do list!

I was able to get a lot painted over the last couple of days, happy because once the heat and humidity set in, I won't be able to get much done paint wise. I will try to get some pictures taken and posted up.

So I have started on this and am puzzled about a few things: 1. The dashboard on my kit seems to angled opposite from the interior tub, any idea on how it goes in? 2. The front suspension had a lot of flash and I think I got it all cleaned up but am not sure if mine will go together as it seems "off". Again, any ideas of assembly sequence? I found an online 1:1 diagram and while it is a help, the kit pieces don't exactly match the picture. 3. There is a transfer case but no driveshafts, has anyone fabricated their own? I was thinking about raiding a kit but wasn't sure which one. I would really love to see a detailed styrene kit (hey Moebius!) because this is a neat truck and would really like to build a couple of them but can't afford to with this resin kit. Thanks in advance!

MENG 1/24 Ford F350 Super Duty Crew Cab: Sneak Peek Pics!
mikemodeler replied to Gregg's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Actually, they can change the badges on this kit to a F-250 and get another kit out of the tooling pretty cheaply. And it has been speculated, a dual wheel version could be forthcoming. Revell is releasing the F150 Raptor kit this fall, that will have to do unless they plan on a stock F150 next year. -
Welcome Glenn, nice to see some new, younger members here. I like your approach and hopefully this will be a place where you learn much! Don't be afraid to post or ask questions, we all are here to share and grow this hobby. You are at that age where girls start to become a distraction, don't let that happen to you! Models are cheaper than a girlfriend and are usually easier to deal with!

True, and along with Harry's comment about it only being a body, what good is a cheap kit if it requires a ton of work ?
