In the last hour here in South Charlotte, we have gone from snow to sleet back to snow. Haven't seen a car come down our hill in at least 30 minutes so I am guessing that most people stayed home. The thing about sick days and snow days when you work from home is that it is really hard to not at least check in or do some work. Our home office is in Seattle and a bunch of people got the day after the Superbowl off because management knew they would be calling in if the Seahawks won so they went ahead and scaled back operations that day. I figure I will take my "sick days" when the weather is a bit nicer and I can be spray painting some bodies or walking around a car show!

Gunmetal Gray '57 (with a little update)
mikemodeler replied to Lovefordgalaxie's topic in Model Cars
I really like that one, very clean and of course excellent details! Keep em coming! -
Here in Charlotte they are advising people to wait before heading out on the road tomorrow to see what the weather brings. School is closed for Wednesday and probably will be on Thursday too. I am a field sales rep and as such, my office is based out of my house. I was talking with my boss today and asked if I could have tomorrow off due to the weather and he laughed and reminded me of some overdue reports and projects that I needed to attend to!

1/25 Revell Mustang 5.0 LX Drag Racer
mikemodeler replied to bad0210's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
But Rob, given the popularity of the Fox body Mustang, just adding some drag parts gets them more sales than if they left it as is. Whether they fix the body or not, there is a pool of buyers out there who will buy this kit by virtue of not having to search for the extra parts this kit will have. Who knows, maybe Revell will surprise us with a fixed body, afterall they did fix the screwed up gas tank on the Nova kit! -
Great idea Chuck, maybe someone can offer decals/photo etch to do just that!

Nick, most winters (this is my ninth here) we see maybe 2-3 inches total. 2 weeks ago when Atlanta had their "snowmegeddon", we had about an inch where I live (far south edge of Charlotte) and most of it melted in the sun by mid-day. The problem came when the temp dropped that night to near single digits and any wet spots turned to ice. Our biggest fear here is ice. They simply do not have the equipment to deal with it so when it snows or rains this time of year, they hit the roads and try to spread salt or salt brine to combat the ice. Unlike the Midwest, treating the side roads and subdivisions just doesn't happen here! When we had the bad weather two weeks ago the engine from the closest fire station slid through an intersection and into a wooden fence because the road hadn't been treated! I have no doubt that the fire department told the street department and that road will be treated this time around! I gave away or sold most of my winter gear when I packed up in 2005 and moved South, although I still have some winter boots and a snow shovel! I enjoy watching the locals trying to drive in this as they have no understanding of how to. Add in the idiots with 4wd and it can make for some real fun!

This has been one of the craziest winters I have seen, and that includes living in northern Illinois for 41 years! Here in Charlotte the weather roller coaster continues as we had temps near 60 over the weekend and now they are calling for 4-8 inches of snow and up to an inch of ice over the next 3 days. The schools are closing two hours early today to get students home before the weather sets in later and most likely they will be closed tomorrow and Thursday. The news stations are all over this storm, reporting on how the stores have been cleared out of bread, milk, fruit and veggies, the DOT has all 35 snow plows ready (yes, a city the size of Charlotte has 35 snow plows!) and what hardware stores have salt and shovels! The good news is that this weekend we should be in the 50s so any snow or ice will be shortlived, unlike my family and friends back in Chicago who have feet of snow and sub-freezing temps to contend with for awhile!

He doesn't mince words on the subject but does admit that she is good for publicity for the sport. I find it funny how Tony Stewart has no problem having her on his team (because she came with sponsorship no doubt) despite a lack of competitiveness while he was upset his partner added Kurt Busch who demonstrated last year that he could drive a race car and contend for wins more often than Danica.

It's not the amount of snow that had things mixed up in Atlanta, it was the thousands of motorists and vehicles that converged on the roadways at the same time. The plow trucks didn't get the roads treated and ready for the traffic and the politicians wanted to blame the weatherman for not telling them!

Casey, couldn't one create the windows with some clear plastic? IIRC there weren't any compound shapes to those side windows. -
Customer Service at Moebius Models
mikemodeler replied to Dave Metzner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Sorry to hear that you initially had problems getting replacement parts and the fact that they sent you a complete kit tells me that they decided it was easier than to take another kit apart. I understand your frustration at being asked to pay the cost of returning the kit but in most cases of customer service, the consumer has some costs involved. For example, if you have a defective TV from Best Buy, you have to return it to the store, they don't come to your house or reimburse you for the gas to drive back and forth. Hopefully Moebius is taking steps to improve their QC so future situations like this one can be avoided. I am planning on buying my first Moebius kit soon when the Ford Pickups come out and hope their aren't any issues. -
That is looking beautiful, I really like that color! Great details and weathering job.

Cory, Like Lee said, do a Google search on 69 GTO and draw from those pictures what you want that kit to look like!

Sorry for your loss Dave, hold tight to the memories and take solace in knowing that she is in a better place.

1962 Chevy K10
mikemodeler replied to BenDover78's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
A friend of mine had a 66 K20 that he converted over to a newer plow setup like this one and the lights were about that high, although I think he raised them later with some blocks. With as high as that truck sits, they should be okay as is. How did you create the 4x4 setup on this truck? I am looking to do a couple of them myself and am not sure if I should scratchbuild the drivetrain or adapt an existing setup. -
Ford Holmes 440
mikemodeler replied to GLMFAA1's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Nice job on that wrecker, you wouldn't happen to have a sketch of how you made the bed or a drawing of the actual pieces would you? With the Mobeius Ford and Round 2 Ford trucks coming I see a couple of wreckers I would like to do! -
Squad 10
mikemodeler replied to GLMFAA1's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Nice! I remember that version of the truck and IIRC they used it again a couple of times when Squad 51 was in the shop.
