Revell is reissuing the 'Can-Do' (Steeps) tow truck...
mikemodeler replied to Mr mopar's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
They typically will put all kits on sale at some point before Christmas. I know the coupon is a better deal but that is for one kit while the sale applies to multiple purchases. I would like to see the Wrecker kit there, although I doubt they will considering the last wrecker kit they had was the Italeri LA County kit that they had to mark down to get rid of. I had hoped they were going to have the recent reissued 77 GMC Wrecker kit but did not. -
This subject came up today as i am 4 weeks away from my 50th birthday. My teenager daughter says she is looking forward to my birthday and me getting an AARP card so we can get discounts. I reminded her that in my case, AARP will take on a new meaning when she brings a boy home- Armed And Really Pissed !

Those three shows are on my DVR record list, for the very reasons you stated! -
5 model cars or trucks you wish were made.
mikemodeler replied to ranma's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
how about these?: 1) 68-71 Dodge pickup with 2wd & 4wd drivetrains 2) 67-72 GM pickups with 2wd & 4wd drivetrains (leave the emblems off the body and offer them as photoetch to maximize tooling) 3) 66-77 Ford Bronco with full and half cab options 4) 60's era IH pickups or Scouts 5) Medium Duty Wrecker kit -
Glad I waited to order some stuff from you, looks like I have a couple more add ons!

Anxious to see the pictures Nick as several friends had cars on display there this year. I am thinking I might have to save some money and vacation time to attend next year.

History of MPC's Rounded Line Trucks
mikemodeler replied to Fabrux's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I believe that truck came with the 4.3L V-6 that was found in the S-10 pickups starting in 1988. Previously the 6 cylinder engine in the GM pickups was the old L-6 250 c.i. Stringent emissions standards rendered the L-6 obsolete as it had a carb. Longbox55 will know for sure, he seems to have vast knowledge on these vintage trucks. I would buy a case of these if you offered them up Tom, resin or styrene! -
roof mount light bars
mikemodeler replied to Tesla's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That could work, although service vehicles tend to have simple lightbars compared to emergency vehicles. If I ever get a chance to sit at the workbench, I might be able to create what I want. Do you know if clear resin is available for casting? -
Ford Econoline 75 Ambulance

Nice job on that conversion, looks spot on! -
Very nice, great details and outstanding paint job!

I hear you on the black paint jobs Chuck! Like the concept, surprised Ford didn't come out with one in response to the Impala, I guess they figured the Taurus SHO was good enough.

I think the issue with the colors has more to do with where the separation line is at. I think it would look better if the purple was on the lower half of the car and there was a bright red or silver line or pinstripe to separate the two. If you are happy with the colors, then tweak them to your liking.

Just saw this and had to chuckle, I have a Revell snapper 69 Camaro ready to paint the same color! Might have to change to a blue as I don't think mine will come out as nice as yours! Great details and shiny paint!

Early Ford Bronco Resin ideas
mikemodeler replied to empinut's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
At the top of this section is a post from Gregg Hutchings about the coming release of an early Ford Bronco in resin, with a revised body. Not sure when it will be available but at $50, it is all we have until someone else offers one. -
Trading guidelines
mikemodeler replied to chevyfever2009's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah, the swap has to be pretty worthwhile because sometimes I don't have a box so it's off to Staples to get a box and then to the PO. I have started to re-think my swapping as I started keeping track of what it was costing me. -
I would like to say thanks..

Priorities can be a hard thing to learn and at 14, might seem useless. Your statement above has me thinking you "get it" and will be a success in whatever you choose to do, including model building! You have some nice models there and the details on the second car are outstanding, keep at it and we will be reading about you in the magazines soon! Best advice I ever got was to "be a sponge" when someone is teaching you something. Ask questions and don't assume you already know it, if you are smart you will learn something everyday. -

Trading guidelines
mikemodeler replied to chevyfever2009's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
To expand Tom's point a bit more, consider the costs involved. If I am asked to trade a newer or just released kit for some older kit from 10-15 years ago, I probably will be spending twice as much for my end of the trade than you are. While I can buy a kit at Hobby Lobby with a 40% off coupon, I have to weigh the cost of buying that kit and the shipping and sometimes spending $25-30 for a kit to trade for one that I can pick up at a swap meet for $10-15. I have some older kits that aren't in production anymore and could easily list them on eBay for crazy money but would rather look for a fair trade here. I never intended to make money in this hobby, just some friends and learn a few new skills. -
I figured you were like most of us at your age and some cute girl caught your eye and you left us behind! Glad you are back, have you done any more work to your 1:1 pickup lately?

Once again work is going to prevent me from attending this show.

1974 Econoline
mikemodeler replied to Repstock's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Tom, Thanks for creating a great master, I will have to add this to my buy list, right after that early Bronco that Gregg is releasing. Sure hope you get a discount on the van kit from the caster! -
roof mount light bars
mikemodeler replied to Tesla's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Guys, I contacted Dave back in June and am still waiting for a response. I even sent him some images of what I was looking for. A couple of unanswered emails later and either he is busy with life or has forgotten about me. It sure would be nice to have some simple light bars for service vehicles.
