  1. Sorry to hear of your troubles, sounds like damage was minimal and can be fixed. Get the drain fixed and if this isn't the first time you have had water in your basement, maybe it is time for a sump pump. I had similar issues when I lived in Illinois and a sump pump with battery backup solved my problems.
  2. I played it today with my 15 year old daughter on the way home from the doctor's office! Gotta have some fun with the kids!
  3. If you want to truly be smart about your vehicle and it's components (this coming from a NAPA employee!), let off the gas and let the vehicle slow itself down without using the brakes or clutch. After 25 years I have given up trying to get the wife understand this but I still drill it into the heads of my teenagers as there is some hope for them. I drive many highway miles- 160,000 over the last 5 years- and my Toyota Camry has 5 mm left on the original rear brake pads and 3 mm left on the front brake pads. I use the engine to slow the car whenever possible, probably why the brake pads are in the shape they are. In all of my driving over the years, I have done very few brake jobs on my vehicles and never replaced a clutch in the truck I had as my first vehicle and put 110,000 hard miles on that baby!
  4. Something we should remember before we blast HL is to ask a manager if they could order a kit, as Todd mentions above, because they can't know what we want if we don't tell them.
  5. I know Harry, the wife and I have a deal regarding monthly publications so I have to tread lightly. If you get MCR, the two 69 Camaros featured in the "Beaters" section, the Yenko and Z-28, are owned by a friend of mine and the magazine has a reader friendly feel.
  6. I only get 2 magazines delivered and occasionally stop by Barnes & Noble. Ironically I went to B&N last night with the wife and daughter and it was the third location that didn't have MCM. Thinking about subscribing to Muscle Car Review, have picked it up a couple of times and really like it, going to have to wait for my Hot Rod subscription to run out later this year.
  7. Have a Happy Birthday Doc, may the plastic gods shine upon you. And after reading the ingredients in Scrapple, I can promise you there will always be enough for you as I WILL NOT be eating it anytime soon!
  8. Thanks for the trip down memory lane! I remember building one of the '76 trucks and would love to find an original '74 issue to build. Hopefully somehow Round 2 can see fit to restore this tooling and bring back the 4wd longbed kits soon!
  9. Tom, Your car is equipped with a clutch master and clutch slave cylinder and it could be something as simple as low fluid! If you aren't too savvy on clutches, find a reputable shop and have them look at your car. A new clutch kit at NAPA retails for $175, while a clutch master is $25 and the clutch slave is $32. The NAPA clutches are supplied by a very high quality company, keep that in mind when shopping and comparing.
  10. to follow up on what Casey mentioned, be sure to shop around for a clutch and the old adage is true- you get what you pay for. A cheap clutch could be just that, cheap.
  11. Like Art said, they should last a long time if driven properly. A lot of factors go into the length of service parts will last on a vehicle. My 2008 Toyota Camry has over 100,000 miles on the front brake pads and nearly 160,000 miles on the rears! Sounds great unless you sell parts for Toyotas, which I do! Proper maintenance and careful driving will go a long way towards parts lasting.
  12. Jim, Have her see a doctor and get a complete exam (physical and mental). There has to be an explanation to this change in behavior and I doubt anyone here can determine what is going on with her. The best thing you can do is be supportive and see that she gets the help she needs so you two can build a life together.
  13. A very sad story, may he find peace in heaven. I remember his posts and comments about his struggles with the fire and ensuing dealings with the insurance company.
  14. Beautiful hot rod but what are the chances that it will ever see the road and be enjoyed? I agree that it is nice to see them get back to reality with the cars and designs but I can only imagine what it cost to build this car.
  15. Check the shelf tags, that will tell you whether or not they will have the kit. You can ask someone to see if it is on order, they should be able to check that. Not sure, but the model kits might get shipped from Revell to the Hobby Lobby warehouse and then to the Hobby Lobby store. If so, that would add at least a week or two in the time it would take to get to the store versus other outlets (LHS, HTU, etc).
  16. Blackhawks- 6-0-0 , only undefeated team in the NHL.
  17. I have about 8 4x4 WIPs going on as we speak! About 4 different GMC pickups (MPC & Revell), a couple of Jeeps, a Bronco, a Blazer and LRE conversion to 4x4 using an old Dencon resin transkit. In the stash are about another 30 4x4 kits including an Unimog snow plow kit- drove one as a teenager when I worked for a Mercedes Benz dealer in the Midwest. Had to be the most impressive off road vehicle I have ever driven, used it to plow snow, move gravel, drag junk cars out of the back lot, used the fork lift attachment to unload trucks and stack junk cars. Never got a speeding ticket but then again I never got stuck in mud or snow! I too hope for a first gen bronco and am anxiously awaiting those old Ford pickups from Mobeius to convert them to 4wd!
  18. Unless something has changed in that kit, the tires in it are actually Goodyear Suburbanite snow tires. Not a bad rendition of them, just not correct military tires.
  19. Kudos to you Terry for trying a two tone paint job in a 24 hr. build, I have a hard enough time doing one in a 24 MONTH build! Looks like it could be fun and yet stressful at the same time, might have to consider doing one next year!
  20. I spend more time on the computer than I do at the workbench but many times that is because my job takes me out of town on a regular basis. I have toyed with the idea of a travel kit to work on models in the hotel room at night but then I couldn't/wouldn't check in here as often! I do enjoy the time at the bench but wish I could speed up the process of building and my need to pay attention to details that in the end are meaningless. Joseph- I hope all goes well with the move and maybe by the time you are all settled in I will be ready for some more of your excellent tires!
  21. Have you inquired with them as to when they may have the parts in stock? Keep in mind that many of the resin casters are not as computer savvy as one would like and they may rely on others to update their website. It could also be a case of producing parts and shipping them has taken priority over updating the website. If it is something you truly need or want, it is worth the time to inquire. You may be surprised to find out that it is available and the caster forgot to update his information!
  22. You might also want to check with Casey, he was looking into casting some tires like that.
  23. There was/is a snow tire available in scale. MPC tooled up a Goodyear Suburbanite snow tire and it currently is available in resin form from The Modelhaus and you can also find it in the reissued WWII Jeep from Round2.
  24. John, Welcome back to the hobby, be sure to look and ask questions here as you need to. There is a ton of information to learn and people are ready to help. Look around at some of the other builds similar to what you want to build and ask those members for guidance. If you are like most of us, it won't be long before you have a couple of dozen new kits and 10 WIPs laying on your workbench!
