  1. I bought a lot of Daisy Duke Jeep kits and a couple of Charlie's Angels vans because of "box art"
  2. very nice, the town I grew up in had these in their fleet, same colors and all! Nicely detailed, did you use a complete resin kit or just the truck body?
  3. Define "decent price" and maybe we can do some trading.............
  4. Despite being a lifelong fan, I am not excited about the NHL returning. We have an AHL team here in Charlotte and they are pretty exciting to watch and fairly cheap to attend a game to boot! Hopefully the owners and players will get the message that these lockouts and protracted negotiations over the last 18 years have cost more than just dollars, some fans have become turned off to the game.
  5. In the small town I used to live in Illinois, they didn't have money for school buses anymore so they did away with them. This was a town that was about six square miles and the only kids who didn't ride the bus had to live within 2-3 blocks of the school as the school system was overly concerned about safety. The funny thing is the buses were maybe half full because most parents still insisted on picking up their kids at school. In Illinois, the state law says that only those students who live at least 1 1/2 miles from school are eligible to ride the buses for free UNLESS there is a major highway or dangerous intersection that the kids must cross to get to school. In cities like Chicago, that probably means a lot of kids ride the bus despite living less than a mile from school. I think walking to school would be great for kids but because we have become such a lawsuit happy society, most schools tend to let kids ride the bus to keep from being sued. In my neighborhood, the middle school and high school are both about a mile away and kids here a more likely to ride the bus in the morning and walk home in the afternoon, especially if the weather is nice!
  6. John- The printing company can't print a magazine until it has it to run. The problem tends to be getting the completed magazine into Golden Bell on time so it can be scheduled to print and shipped close to the date on the cover. It has been well documented here in the past as to why there are delays and if you want more information, contact Harry or Gregg as they are involved in the production of the magazine. Not sure where or which LHS will have MCM, I have yet to find it in the Charlotte market since I dropped my subscription last year. I have hit several Barnes and Nobles' and they do not stock it. If you find it, let me know!
  7. Very nice and another reason why we could use a new tool 67-68 Camaro!
  8. Nice job there Nick! You are correct that the kit is not as nice as the Revell kit, but you managed to polish a turd very well. It has been great to see your skills improve over these last couple of years.
  9. Very nice, great colors and kits. Looks like you "saved" a few also!
  10. To add to Tom's comments, think of the shows we hear about that might be a couple of hours away that we consider going to but may have never heard of if it weren't for the forums? I have met several members here and the ability to trade kits and parts has opened up a whole new world for me.
  11. Joe, The tires in the recently released 69 Olds 442 kit are spot on for your Chevelle, you will want them too. The chassis swap should go smoothly, just take your time and double check everything.
  12. I have to say the outside pictures do it more justice! Nice clean build and details. I would hate for you to see my work area if you think yours is messy!
  13. Maybe you should contact him and see if you could meet up and share the ride? Great way to make a new friend and save some gas & toll money.
  14. Art, Must you tease us like that? What ever they come up with is sure to be a hit and I am getting anxious to see what they bring us, this year and in the coming years! While it can be said our hobby ain't what it used to be, news of kits like these is definitely a sign that our wishes and voices are being heard.
  15. The AMT 66 Nova Pro Street is another kit that is a good source of parts to use on other models. I have some Revell Camaro kits that I have pirated the engines and wheels out of (Yenkos especially) and the 66 Chevelle Wagon ( soon to be re-released) is another kit that has some nice wheels and engine to kitbash.
  16. One cannot forget the great AMT kits that were part of the Boyd Coddington collection! Honestly, unless a kit manufacturer follows the creation of the kit exactly like the 1:1, I feel the person has sold their name (and possibly soul) to the highest bidder.
  17. Sad that they lost everything, I would be surprised if they rebuilt the business given the fact that they have 2 other stores. Interesting comment by the reporter mentioning the investigation and a tip that the police received, makes you wonder if someone had a grudge against the owners.
  18. The resin caster should have included some instructions as to how to prep the resin parts. If you know who the caster is and don't have instructions, try contacting them. As most have stated, using Westley's Bleech White is the common product that is used and recommended.
  19. Not yet, but there is always the chance that someone will have it available soon.
  20. I might be considered a hoarder, but then again living a long life runs in my family so there IS a chance I could live long enough to build the 300+ kits I have sitting in the hobby room and garage!
  21. That would be nice to have for some people but here in Charlotte we just wait for it to melt! In 8 winters, I think I have used my snow shovel 3 or 4 times to shovel the snow and probably 10 times to get the leaves up in the fall.
  22. Very well said Tom, and I suspect that before too long we will be reading the magazines online and the print version will be something to view in a museum. When I last renewed my Scale Auto subscription, I was offered a digital option in addition to a print version. I opted not to take the digital version but envision a day when that will be the only way to read it. At some point I think the forums and magazines will be merged and we will have to pay to be a part of the action. I am not opposed to doing that, but like many other new things, I will have to be shown the benefits before signing up. I, like many others, grew up "old school" but have adapted to the online world. I applaud the magazines' owners for giving us what they do- forums and print magazines- and hope that they can continue to do so for a long time. The climate in which they operate is a very difficult one and I don't see it improving.
  23. Well, I used to subscribe to both magazines but had to cut back earlier this year and MCM lost out as it was the one up for renewal. While SA has a corporate feel to it, I do appreciate the fact that I don't have to guess when the next issue will arrive. That was a contributing factor to my decision along with the condition the magazine showed up in most months. I applaud Gregg for putting out a magazine in a time when readership of publications is in a decline and especially in a genre' of such small proportions. Hopefully I can subscribe again in 2013 as I have tried to find the magazine at hobby shops and bookstores to no avail. I do like the variety between the two competing magazines and think it is healthy for us to have the choices.
