Very nice! Black is one of those colors I love to hate! Had a couple of 1:1 black cars in my time but never again unless it is a Sunday driver that stays in the garage under a cover!

Remember when?
mikemodeler replied to Porscheman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I remember many trips with Mom to various stores and there always being models available, unlike today. I think we all took to model building because we were exposed to them wherever we went- department stores, drug stores, grocery stores, hardware stores- and then I found hobby shops! While I wish there were more outlets for them today, I do appreciate what we have. I think with all the stuff we have- resin, photo etch, internet, etc- we are better off than when I started 40 years ago. -
Happy Thanksgiving

Go to Speed.com or StacyDavid.com, you might be able to see it there. -
Most likely is Casey. If memory serves me correctly, Joel was fixated on the Geo Metro for a time and he created several different versions, including a motorcycle.

Cool cars your grandparents owned
mikemodeler replied to Fat Brian's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Only knew my Dad's Dad and he was a crusty old man from what I remember. I think he had an old Maverick or Comet, although it could have been a Falcon from around 1970 as he passed away in January 1973 and had given up driving at least a year before he died. Like others have said, my Grandfather smoked cigars and the smell was nasty. Couple that with him driving like Mr. Magoo and his crabby personality and he was always alone in the car! I remember trying to convince Mom & Dad to buy a Starsky & Hutch Torino in 1976 and they bought a used Chrysler New Yorker instead, one of the worst cars they ever owned! -
I´m afraid to ask......

It is a rendering by Harry, one of the forum moderators and a key person in getting the Model Cars magazine art laid out every month. -
I got my order in a week's time, meaning from when I sent the check to I received the parts- not too many resin guys can give that kind of service. On top of that, the tires are beautiful and I will definitely be ordering more when I am in need of them! I do want to say that I was told a long time ago an important thing about resin pieces/parts/kits- if you see something you like, get it while you can because it might not be there tomorrow. Not saying Joseph is going somewhere, but most of us have seen more than one resin business run into various issues- health, personal, financial, etc- and suddenly what we thought was always going to be around is gone. Joseph's tire are very nice and I would suggest that you do yourself a favor and figure out what you need and order them now! I think I will be creating another order after I am at the bench tonight!

I'm guessing you got screwed over because I have been able to get resin pieces from other vendors without any problems, which tells me there is not a resin shortage. The trouble with Perry's is that he does have nice stuff and some people are able to get what they order in a timely fashion and then others are left holding the bag! I had my eye on his TopKick conversion kit and Malibu resin kit but held off ordering because of horror stories like this and now there are others offering the same stuff and are not the topic of threads with themes like this one! Hope it works out for you!

The non-toxic glue was brought to market in an effort to keep people from sniffing glue (i.e. drug abuse) but in the end, as you mentioned, it wasn't a great product for it's intended use. This is an interesting article and I wish it would get picked up by more news outlets so the word would get out to more people! My wife has started the afterschool class at our YMCA branch for 3rd-5th graders called "I Built It!" , a take off on this year's Presidential election catch phrase. The first 2 classes have been met with a lot of great response and they haven't even started on the models yet! They were late in getting this class on the fall schedule and only had 8 kids sign up but they will be promoting it more for the winter and spring sessions. I will print out that article above for her to show the class coordinator as she hopes to develop more classes in the coming months that will get kids to use their minds and creativity instead of just being TV zombies.

Question for members from Pro Tech
mikemodeler replied to Pro Tech's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think you will be amazed at how much more business will come your way if you accept credit cards. I have yet to get a paypal account (mostly laziness) but will whip out the Visa if I seem something I want or need. It might result in you having to charge more for the product or adding a slight service charge for credit card orders but in the end it may be unnecessary if the increase in business generates enough profit to offset the extra costs. -

Is that you Joe Dirt????????????????????????????/ -
Thanks for the reminder Clay, it is one of many great things our Marines do for our country! My daughter is in a MCJROTC unit in high school and they are required to bring a new, unwrapped toy to their annual Christmas party as their admittance fee. They usually collect in the neighborhood of 150 toys and as Jacen pointed out, it doesn't have to be a big or expensive, as it may be the only thing a child will get for Christmas and they will cherish it. Thank you for doing what you do Staff Sgt Jones! And please thank your fellow Marines! Semper Fi

is it MPG or GPM, and how many axles?
mikemodeler replied to rel14's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There is an article in the current issue of Hot Rod on this vehicle along with some in depth information on the builder, a very good read! -
That is coming along nicely and some great details and scratchbuilding! Have you considered a propane tank for the stove? That is about the only thing I see missing and you did mention gas tanks in an earlier post, maybe that is what you were referring to? Should be a great conversation piece when done!

Hudson Highway
mikemodeler replied to Chuck Most's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I like the wrecker bed idea Chuck, maybe a dealer owned unit to haul in those cars that need repair? The stuff that comes from your mind and workshop always amaze me! Keep them coming! -
Motor Trend Car of the Year is...
mikemodeler replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The hazards posed by electric car range from emergency responders being properly trained to deal with them in an accident setting to those that attempt to repair them without proper training and knowledge. Special tools have been developed to check the vehicle in case of an accident to make sure the whole vehicle isn't a literal "live wire" when police, fire and rescue crews get to the scene of a crash. While the big towns have budgets for training, remember that the majority of the fire and rescue responders are paid on call or volunteer and those departments don't always have access to the most up to date methods and equipment. Then there is the hazards of what to do with the components when the car reaches the end of it's life. Yes, there will be recycling involved, but not in the sense that there is today because again, it will take some special training and tools. And unlike today, what will the market be for used electric car parts? That is a huge unknown because the automakers have engineered different components into their vehicles and to date the volume has been relatively low. Something tells me that my 19 year old son won't be searching the junkyards in 20 years looking for parts to restore a 2008 Toyota Prius, but he might be looking for parts for a 2008 Mustang! -
Motor Trend Car of the Year is...
mikemodeler replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Let us know how that Tesla does in the first snowstorm or cold snap Harry! I just think they are priced way above what most people in this country can afford, unless you are a celebrity, in which case you buy one to make a political statement. At $50,000 plus, I can think of many other vehicles that offer great fuel economy without posing a hazard. -
Motor Trend Car of the Year is...
mikemodeler replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That is a list of real winners there Craig! I can't see how a car that is available to a select few (price and dealer availability) can be considered against those that are more readily available in most towns across the country? -
Agreed that having these "new" kits again is been a great thing and also some of the tweaking they have done, like the recent 69 Olds 442 kit with the polyglas tires. Let's hope they continue and they unearth some more old tools to bring back!
