  1. have you had one recently? The last one I had seemed like it WAS a leftover from 1965!
  2. My package from Tower Hobbies arrived today, another GMC PU & Plow and the AMT Ford Van. If they don't stop that "free shipping" promo, I am going to be broke!
  3. Thanks Brian, are you planning on going? I scored some AutoFair tickets that same weekend, the wife might be lonely that weekend!
  4. Chuck, I hope this means that you have some nice hobby shops to choose from! I am envious of members who have a decent LHS to give them the supplies and the kits that a Hobby Lobby or Michaels can't/won't. I live in Charlotte, NC and you would think there would be a LHS or two but the reality is that there are a couple of Hobbytown USAs, Hobby Lobbys and Michaels. I have been shopping more and more online and will need to go a show or swap meet to find some OOP kits that a LHS would normally have. I also agree with you Chuck that a reissued kit with new decals does not warrant $25 but a restored kit not seen in years can be worth it, depending on the subject matter.
  5. I can't remember when this show typically is but I thought I saw somewhere it was in Conover or Morganton NC in September. If someone knows, could you please post some information on the show? Thanks!
  6. Had a friend that had a 75 Chebby half ton that was a 250- inline 6 with a three on the tree. I don't think the heavier duty trucks could be had with a 3 speed manny tranny, although if they had the HD 4 speed, it was essentially a 3 speed cuz the first gear was super low and most started in second gear.
  7. I do believe Harry said no hints or answers posted here!
  8. Great topic Darin and quite a few good responses as well. I was all set to pay $24.99 the other day at Hobby Lobby for the AMT Phantom Van when the cashier mentioned using my smart phone for the 40% off coupon. My point is that if I am interested in a kit or part, it always comes down to the want more than the cost for me. I recently bought a resin kit of a subject matter that I really like. I wish I had done more research as there was a better resin piece available but I will build what I bought. I am quite happy with the hobby right now- some nice releases of late and I am able to buy what I like, although I do need to sell off some extra kits that I won't be building.
  9. Joe, You are correct that the plow measures out to a scale 7 feet, that was one of the first things I checked! Most Jeeps had 6 1/2 foot wide plows and half ton trucks like this typically had 7 foot plows, although 7 1/2 plows were possible on a half ton if the right options were ordered (heavy duty parts). 8 foot plows were more common on 3/4 and 1 ton trucks due to their heavier duty suspensions and typically more powerful engines. It is possible that Revell tooled up this plow because of: 1. That what was on the research vehicle. 2. That was the size plow that would fit on the sprue tree. 3. They did not consult a plow manufacturer to get the correct size as a means to not have to pay royalties. This plow closely represents a Western snow plow from the '80's before they went to the Uni-mount style. In a perfect world, we would have a late model pickup kit with a uni-mount style plow, but I am happy to have this as I have a bunch of older kits that it would look more realistic on.
  10. Me too! I doubt there is a whole bunch of new stuff in here, just doesn't make economic sense.
  11. Very scary story to read Terry but the outcome seems to be promising. My wishes for a full and speedy recovery to all and hope this is the last such experience for them!
  12. Derrick, Congrats on the picture in the other mag. Around here it is okay if you mention the other mag, but don't go on their forum and mention MCM!
  13. Jim, The Olds isn't there yet, I just noticed they had made a spot for it. My guess is that they re-set the section and made room for it once it arrives. I almost picked up a '76 Caprice kit, just for the trailer but remembered I already had one and surely didn't need another.
  14. So I went into a Hobby Lobby today and discovered a couple of interesting things. 1. Some of the Testors spray paint has been marked down. Picked up a couple of cans for $3.21, almost half off. 2. They have made room for the upcoming Revell 50 Olds and 57 Ford. 3. If you have a smartphone, no need to print a coupon. I walked up to the register with the Phantom Van and found the HL website and they were able to use the code from the online coupon, saving me $10 on the cost of the kit! Now that I know I can use my phone to get 40% off, I might be spending more time and money at Hobby Lobby.
  15. Not a big deal for me as I tend to not finish many kits so it isn't like I have a ton on display to notice the difference! Now if they would only standardize the box size so it would be easier to stack and store them..............
  16. Brian, I have no clue but does eBay have anything in their registration info that could explain it? They own PayPal so I would think they would spell out what type of account is necessary in order to conduct business there. No doubt someone smarter than me will have your answers, and soon! Interested in finding out as my wife is thinking the same thing, sure hope she isn't looking at my stash and thinking it could be liquidated while I am travelling!
  17. Looks like one of those fancy models Harry likes!
  18. Casey, you had to rub it in about those shows I so do miss not living in the area didn't you?!?!?! I look for shows to get those out of production kits, resin pieces, and other bits. The new releases are so easily available from online sources and relatively cheap, so why spend the money on them? There are some shows coming up in September and November, I really hope to make it to them.
  19. Lucas, Towards the bottom of the main page of this forum is a section called "Community". In that section, the first sub category is Model Club News and the second is Contest & Shows. It is within these two sub categories that you can find things more local to your area. You may have to travel a bit to some events, but a lot of them are worth it for what they offer. It is a good idea to familiarize yourself with some of the shows and clubs in your area to get the feel for what is happening nearby and decide which ones to see.
  20. Good points from the both of you. Mike, I live in Charlotte and there has not been a model show or swap meet for 2 years here. I can drive 90 minutes and hit several shows over the course of the year, just have to make sure I don't have any conflicts with my schedule. I have spent more online this year than I probably have over the last 10 years, mainly because what I am looking for is not available locally and I have been on a resin kick as of late. Dave, I am with you on the Wal Mart thing- I never bought alot from them as they did not have what I would consider items of interest. Yes, there were some kits I bought there, but they were mostly for the parts (engine/wheels). I would look at Wal Mart next time I am there, but not going to get excited.
  21. As Larry the Cable Guy would say...." I don't care who you are, that is funny!" :D
  22. Contact Jimmy Flintstone for some "characters" for the stage. This should be a nice one when done!
  23. Doc, This being an enamel paint, I wonder if the Donn Yost method would apply here? Have you checked with the Old Man himself to see if these have been used in his labratory? Years ago when I worked at the Mercedes/BMW dealer, the guy who striped our cars used these paints. IIRC, they were ready to use out of the can and were dry within an hour. You might have to thin them a little to shoot through the airbrush. Some pretty nice colors available and cheaper than Testors' 1/4 ounce bottles!
  24. You might want to try MCW , they have a wide range of colors and can get you hooked up. I think there is also another company, Scalefinishes, but he was closed for the summer and not re-opening until September,IIRC. Nice car, can't wait to see it done.
  25. Nice pics again Gerry! I liked that old Ford wagon with the woodsides, the 23 window VW van and that old 300SL brought back memories of when I worked at Knauz in Lake Forest 30 years ago!
