So I went into a Hobby Lobby today and discovered a couple of interesting things. 1. Some of the Testors spray paint has been marked down. Picked up a couple of cans for $3.21, almost half off. 2. They have made room for the upcoming Revell 50 Olds and 57 Ford. 3. If you have a smartphone, no need to print a coupon. I walked up to the register with the Phantom Van and found the HL website and they were able to use the code from the online coupon, saving me $10 on the cost of the kit! Now that I know I can use my phone to get 40% off, I might be spending more time and money at Hobby Lobby.

Best Paypal account for selling on ebay
mikemodeler replied to Fat Brian's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Brian, I have no clue but does eBay have anything in their registration info that could explain it? They own PayPal so I would think they would spell out what type of account is necessary in order to conduct business there. No doubt someone smarter than me will have your answers, and soon! Interested in finding out as my wife is thinking the same thing, sure hope she isn't looking at my stash and thinking it could be liquidated while I am travelling! -
Real or Model #199 FINISHED!
mikemodeler replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Looks like one of those fancy models Harry likes! -
Casey, you had to rub it in about those shows I so do miss not living in the area didn't you?!?!?! I look for shows to get those out of production kits, resin pieces, and other bits. The new releases are so easily available from online sources and relatively cheap, so why spend the money on them? There are some shows coming up in September and November, I really hope to make it to them.

Lucas, Towards the bottom of the main page of this forum is a section called "Community". In that section, the first sub category is Model Club News and the second is Contest & Shows. It is within these two sub categories that you can find things more local to your area. You may have to travel a bit to some events, but a lot of them are worth it for what they offer. It is a good idea to familiarize yourself with some of the shows and clubs in your area to get the feel for what is happening nearby and decide which ones to see.

Good points from the both of you. Mike, I live in Charlotte and there has not been a model show or swap meet for 2 years here. I can drive 90 minutes and hit several shows over the course of the year, just have to make sure I don't have any conflicts with my schedule. I have spent more online this year than I probably have over the last 10 years, mainly because what I am looking for is not available locally and I have been on a resin kick as of late. Dave, I am with you on the Wal Mart thing- I never bought alot from them as they did not have what I would consider items of interest. Yes, there were some kits I bought there, but they were mostly for the parts (engine/wheels). I would look at Wal Mart next time I am there, but not going to get excited.

Doc, This being an enamel paint, I wonder if the Donn Yost method would apply here? Have you checked with the Old Man himself to see if these have been used in his labratory? Years ago when I worked at the Mercedes/BMW dealer, the guy who striped our cars used these paints. IIRC, they were ready to use out of the can and were dry within an hour. You might have to thin them a little to shoot through the airbrush. Some pretty nice colors available and cheaper than Testors' 1/4 ounce bottles!

THE "ROY MUNSON" 72 OLDSMOBILE CONVERTIBLE
mikemodeler replied to bryan_m's topic in WIP: Model Cars
You might want to try MCW , they have a wide range of colors and can get you hooked up. I think there is also another company, Scalefinishes, but he was closed for the summer and not re-opening until September,IIRC. Nice car, can't wait to see it done. -
Jim, If you had come on here BEFORE you placed your order, you may have learned that there were others who went through the same ordeal as you. I have never dealt with nor will I deal with Reliable Resin as a result of countless posts like this one.

'67-'72 GM 4x4 parts
mikemodeler replied to Gluhead's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
So how soon before I can order the kits from you? In all seriousness, I would definitely be interested in whatever you offer to make a 4x4 for old Chevies! -
'67-'72 GM 4x4 parts
mikemodeler replied to Gluhead's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I might be in the minority on the subject, but if there was a choice between buying a resin 4x4 chassis kit (frame, axles, springs, transfer case) and having to locate a couple of kits and build some axles & springs, I would pop for the ready to use kit! Either way, having some parts to create a kit not offered is better than nothing! I would love to create a '66 & '67 Chevy shortbed 4x4, maybe even a couple of Suburbans of the '66-72 era too! -
'67-'72 GM 4x4 parts
mikemodeler replied to Gluhead's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
This is a good start but the other big piece is the crappy chassis plate that comes in those AMT pickup kits of those years. I have looked at them and tried to figure out if it would be easier to start from scratch or try to modify what came in the kit. To answer your question, yes, I would be interested! -
Tower Hobbies: excellent fast shipping!
mikemodeler replied to jbwelda's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I got an email last night from them and the free shipping code I show is 01A13 on any orders of $25 or more of SHIPPABLE merchandise. Not sure what shippable means but I guess anything not explosive? Probably will order a couple of things this weekend. Hope this helps a few of you. -
Me too! I am glad he is re-working the master instead of giving us a marginal kit! Hopefully once the Fall comes he will get back on this as it has been a long time coming!

Tower Hobbies: excellent fast shipping!
mikemodeler replied to jbwelda's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
With all of the specials they run, I have been making most of my online purchases with Tower Hobbies. There is usually some kind of free shipping or discounts off of an order so it makes it hard to consider other companies. I recently had a similar experience with an order placed on a Tuesday afternoon and it was at my house on Friday morning- and I live 800 miles from the warehouse! -
Returned last night from New England and the first thing I notice is the humidity when I get off the plane in Charlotte! Had a great time dropping off my son in Vermont, a chance for he and I to spend some quality time together before he moved into his dorm room and I headed back home. It was great to see the transition in him and I know he will do well in school, having him so far from home will be the hardest. A week ago I wished he would quiet down as I work from home and his voice carries throughout the house, now I wish I could ask him for help with a project! So it goes, life moves on and they can't be kids forever but we are definitely looking forward to Thanksgiving when he will come home and we can be a family of four again.

The plow in this kit is more representative of an setup in the 70s/80s and not like the current plow set ups. That old 1/16th scale Revell kit you mentioned was not a good replica of a snow plow but considering how many kits over the years have had plows, we have to take what we can get!
