Drag radials and turbos
mikemodeler replied to FAST442's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Two lessons learned here: 1. When a hobby becomes a job, it can take the fun out of it. 2. When you see something in resin, get it while you can because the source can dry up without notice. Shucky, I commend you for realizing that resin casting was consuming your time and you had to prioritize things. While some might not understand that, I do and know that some things are more important than others. Best of luck! -
Anybody Else Gone through this?
mikemodeler replied to nboldman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That sucks and I hope they find the culprits! There was another "member" here who supposedly went through the same thing a month ago. I put member in quotes as he was in the middle of a bunch of trades with about 6-8 members here when his house was broken into. Funny thing is he got all of his stuff from us and he was never heard from again and we were left empty handed. -
Thanks for the list Casey, that was very considerate of you to list all of those names of good traders and the tip about updating the list instead of a new thread.

No argument here Harry! I look forward to the trips back just for the food, to heck with seeing family and friends! To me, a Chicago dog can only be had in Chicago, and the same can be said for a Portillo's beef sammich, Gino's East deep dish pizza, Eli's Cheesecake, the list goes on and on! Politics?, Naw, we ain't gonna talk about that! I do love the quote I saw not too long ago about Illinois' new state motto- "Illinois, where our ex-governors make our plates!"

It is an all expense paid trip, just 2 long days flying cross-country and dealing with airports and a 3 hour time zone change!

I got an email today from Kalmbach Publishing informing me I won a Tom Daniels kit in a drawing from when I renewed my magazine subscription. Not sure which one but I should have it sometime next week. This is the second time I won something from them. The last time was an airbrush ($199 at Hobby Lobby) for answering a survey. I better buy a lottery ticket, I am feeling lucky!

Just found out that I won a contest at work and will be out of town that weekend, so once again work wipes out a chance at a show! Good news- Get to go to a race. Bad news- It is at Sonoma Raceway in California, about 2,500 miles away from home. Better news- 4 days off of work!

Mark, Check out Tower Hobbies or Plastic-Models.com (same company) as they have a deal with free shipping if the order is over $25. I just picked up the AMT Phantom Van and Revell 77 GMC Pickup for less that $40 delivered to my door. Yes, I could have gone to Hobby Lobby and got the van a couple of bucks cheaper with the 40% off coupon, but then there would have been the gas and sales tax. Online is the only place I have seen the 77 GMC pickup. -
I have a great deal on a bike for your wife, if you're interested! Let me know if you are going, as I will plan accordingly if you do. I probably should try to get a table and sell some of my excess kits off.

Steve, While shopping there last week I did notice that as part of the model kit re-set, they have made room for the kits you mentioned on the shelves. When they get them will depend on when Revell ships them to the Hobby Lobby distribution center and then however long it takes the HL DC to ship to the stores.

have you had one recently? The last one I had seemed like it WAS a leftover from 1965! -
My package from Tower Hobbies arrived today, another GMC PU & Plow and the AMT Ford Van. If they don't stop that "free shipping" promo, I am going to be broke!

Thanks Brian, are you planning on going? I scored some AutoFair tickets that same weekend, the wife might be lonely that weekend!

Chuck, I hope this means that you have some nice hobby shops to choose from! I am envious of members who have a decent LHS to give them the supplies and the kits that a Hobby Lobby or Michaels can't/won't. I live in Charlotte, NC and you would think there would be a LHS or two but the reality is that there are a couple of Hobbytown USAs, Hobby Lobbys and Michaels. I have been shopping more and more online and will need to go a show or swap meet to find some OOP kits that a LHS would normally have. I also agree with you Chuck that a reissued kit with new decals does not warrant $25 but a restored kit not seen in years can be worth it, depending on the subject matter. -
I can't remember when this show typically is but I thought I saw somewhere it was in Conover or Morganton NC in September. If someone knows, could you please post some information on the show? Thanks!

Had a friend that had a 75 Chebby half ton that was a 250- inline 6 with a three on the tree. I don't think the heavier duty trucks could be had with a 3 speed manny tranny, although if they had the HD 4 speed, it was essentially a 3 speed cuz the first gear was super low and most started in second gear.

I do believe Harry said no hints or answers posted here!

Great topic Darin and quite a few good responses as well. I was all set to pay $24.99 the other day at Hobby Lobby for the AMT Phantom Van when the cashier mentioned using my smart phone for the 40% off coupon. My point is that if I am interested in a kit or part, it always comes down to the want more than the cost for me. I recently bought a resin kit of a subject matter that I really like. I wish I had done more research as there was a better resin piece available but I will build what I bought. I am quite happy with the hobby right now- some nice releases of late and I am able to buy what I like, although I do need to sell off some extra kits that I won't be building. -
Joe, You are correct that the plow measures out to a scale 7 feet, that was one of the first things I checked! Most Jeeps had 6 1/2 foot wide plows and half ton trucks like this typically had 7 foot plows, although 7 1/2 plows were possible on a half ton if the right options were ordered (heavy duty parts). 8 foot plows were more common on 3/4 and 1 ton trucks due to their heavier duty suspensions and typically more powerful engines. It is possible that Revell tooled up this plow because of: 1. That what was on the research vehicle. 2. That was the size plow that would fit on the sprue tree. 3. They did not consult a plow manufacturer to get the correct size as a means to not have to pay royalties. This plow closely represents a Western snow plow from the '80's before they went to the Uni-mount style. In a perfect world, we would have a late model pickup kit with a uni-mount style plow, but I am happy to have this as I have a bunch of older kits that it would look more realistic on.

What Revell should put out as Kits...

Me too! I doubt there is a whole bunch of new stuff in here, just doesn't make economic sense. -
Got another model in a mag
mikemodeler replied to Sixx's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Derrick, Congrats on the picture in the other mag. Around here it is okay if you mention the other mag, but don't go on their forum and mention MCM! -
Jim, The Olds isn't there yet, I just noticed they had made a spot for it. My guess is that they re-set the section and made room for it once it arrives. I almost picked up a '76 Caprice kit, just for the trailer but remembered I already had one and surely didn't need another.
