The hazards posed by electric car range from emergency responders being properly trained to deal with them in an accident setting to those that attempt to repair them without proper training and knowledge. Special tools have been developed to check the vehicle in case of an accident to make sure the whole vehicle isn't a literal "live wire" when police, fire and rescue crews get to the scene of a crash. While the big towns have budgets for training, remember that the majority of the fire and rescue responders are paid on call or volunteer and those departments don't always have access to the most up to date methods and equipment. Then there is the hazards of what to do with the components when the car reaches the end of it's life. Yes, there will be recycling involved, but not in the sense that there is today because again, it will take some special training and tools. And unlike today, what will the market be for used electric car parts? That is a huge unknown because the automakers have engineered different components into their vehicles and to date the volume has been relatively low. Something tells me that my 19 year old son won't be searching the junkyards in 20 years looking for parts to restore a 2008 Toyota Prius, but he might be looking for parts for a 2008 Mustang!

I just think they are priced way above what most people in this country can afford, unless you are a celebrity, in which case you buy one to make a political statement. At $50,000 plus, I can think of many other vehicles that offer great fuel economy without posing a hazard.

That is a list of real winners there Craig! I can't see how a car that is available to a select few (price and dealer availability) can be considered against those that are more readily available in most towns across the country?

Agreed that having these "new" kits again is been a great thing and also some of the tweaking they have done, like the recent 69 Olds 442 kit with the polyglas tires. Let's hope they continue and they unearth some more old tools to bring back!

I thought there was a lockout of the hoclkey teams this season, did they all take jobs as NASCAR crew members? It should be interesting as to how NASCAR handles the incident. One cannot predict what they will do because they are so inconsistent with rules enforcement. If they were to be fair, both drivers and teams would be suspended from racing next weekend as they both were wrong for what they did. I was hoping to see someone different win the championship, mainly so NASCAR could have a story to talk about a new winner, this year. Then Jimmie goes on a run and almost seals his 6th championship until that blown tire yesterday, giving Bad Brad a big point lead heading into the last race. I think it would be great to see Brad win his first and Roger Penske's first, not to mention one for Dodge as they are exiting the series this year. What I couldn't figure out was Brad's profanity-laced tirade after the race in the press room, what was that all about? It was as if he was part of the Bowyer/Gordon incident and he had some real anger to express. I understand and agree that what happened was uncalled for but his foul mouthed rant was unnecessary, IMO. There will be some real drama next weekend in Florida, and the networks will be hyping it for all they can in an effort to get viewers. Like a car accident on the highway I won't be able to turn my eyes away from it but will probably not stare too long!

I agree that the tires in the 69 442 are nice and someone started a thread on submitting a message to Round2 to see if they will consider offering those tires in a multi pac like the recent slicks.

You would think if Moebius can tool up brand new tools for the 67-72 series Ford Pickups, that Round2 could fix the molds for the 70's Dodge pickups that were converted into monster trucks in the 80s. I have one of the Dodge Monster trucks and it appears that the hood and original 4x4 drivetrain is all that would be necessary to get it back into production. I am not an accountant or tooling engineer, but I don't think with todays' technology that it would take much to get these kits back on the shelf and make a ton of modelers happy. They could offer a 2wd & 4wd version and with The Modelhaus having parts, we could create different years on our own.

I agree Doc, the only problem I see is a newbie comes along and we (the forum) tells them to find one of those original issue Nomad kits and they faint at the price. The information is very useful in that if someone was looking for a part from an older kit, somebody may have it in their spares box with no intention of using it and can make it available without having to purchase the expensive OOP kit. I bought two newly released (re-issues) kits last week expressly for certain parts and commented about it only to have another forum member send me a PM to say he had those very parts and wouldn't be using them and did I want them?!?!?! HECK YES! So to your point, this can work better than some of us may imagine, me included!

The 1:1 units tend to be multi-piece configurations and I would make a set the same way. The first thing you will want to do is decide what diameter you want them to be. Determine how radical the bend needs to be and figure out what material to use- plastic or metal- based on what you feel most comfortable bending. If you go with metal, a tubing bender works well and tends to do the job without kinking it. The plastic tube method can be warmed in water to make it more flexible but whenever I have bent a plastic tube, I have inserted a solid piece to help keep it from kinking. The flared end of the side pipe can be made by bending it at a 90 degree angle and then cutting it at the desired opening.

This a great start but the only problem I see so far with the 3 kits posted is that they have not been around for a long time, making them expensive to the person looking for them for the aforementioned extra parts. Hopefully there will be posts here that have more contemporary kits and their parts for those that cannot find one of those older kits. Of course, it would be nice if the kit companies started putting those extra parts in the kits again (hint hint)!

I was so excited to pick this kit up the other day at the LHS and now after reading this topic, I think I better return it because of the issues pointed out here. Do you think the nice man at the LHS will refund my money if I show him these posts?????? C'mon guys, it is a model and we know how to get around these problems, don't we? Cruz has it figured out by looking at his posts above. Does this kit have some issues? Sure it does, just like every other one that is on the shelves at a hobby shop!

Google DG Productions- they offered utility trucks and others in GMC and International chassis. They are pretty close to 1/25 scale and are realistic. Porkys (P&P Resins) also has GMC, Ford & International resin cabs available.

Define "completed" for me!! If you mean the point at which you stop fiddling with them and put them in the display case, then I am in trouble! My hectic schedule doesn't allow me much time to build and my never ending quest to add details or customize a kit prevents me from getting many completed. Like many others, I have kits that were started years ago and have yet to be finished.

I don't believe Dencon is in business anymore. Their product was among the best, their service was spotty. I bought their stuff at shows, which is where I buy most of my resin stuff. I would follow the advice others have laid out regarding which axles are available and go from there.

Neat way of using some leftover parts to create a unique piece! Nice details and very creative, can't wait to see it done!

Velocity TV is almost all car related programming, check it out. Also, Speed has TV related shows- My Classic Car, Car Crazy, Gearz, TruckU, Two Guys Garage, Chp, Cut Rebuild. Spike has their Powerblock shows. Discovery has some car shows. There are a ton of them out there, just hit some of the cable networks for their listings.

Okay Frank, you got us all interested, care to share the secret? I have a few cars that could use some stripes and I would be willing to try something other than tape and hope for the best!
