Take care and be safe to all of those in the path of the storm. Here in Charlotte NC we are getting high winds and cold temps but no rain. I hope that whatever predictions of destruction the talking heads on TV claim are exaggerated and no members here suffer any losses. A little concerned for my son who is at school in Vermont as that area took a beating with Irene last August and this looks to be as bad, if not worse.

Thanks for the pictures! I always have a work assignment that takes me out of Charlotte the last weekend of October so I have yet to attend this show and these pictures have me resenting my job! I really like that black 32 5 window you posted Drew, and that early 50's red GMC pickup in the background of that black '27(?) is pretty sweet too.

Kenny is a great guy and a great model builder. Earlier this year he was moving his business ( he has a day job like most of us!) and that may have been why he was hard to get a hold of. He is also heavily involved with the CKM model club and they put on a great show every August ( highly recommend attending it if you can). That said, his resin is top notch and priced fair, have yet to have any bad pieces or issues. If you can't get through via email, use Casey's link above as he is a member here. If you get a chance to meet him at a show, he is very nice and easy to talk to.

I wanna get back into building...
mikemodeler replied to '08SEAL's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not to mention the most "fresh" BMF there is. You can sometimes get a sheet that has been left out and has dried/cracked, not good for modeling or the pocketbook. -
wondering what happened after you bagged all those Gearz prizes! Glad to see you back at it, this should be as nice or nicer than the 69 Z-28!

1/25 Ford C-600 Stake truck
mikemodeler replied to Piero's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
That looks like something out of Chuck Most's backyard! Nice job on the weathering! -
Thanks Art, now I gotta tell my youngest that she won't be going to college because some model kit company is bringing out a bunch of different versions of a model kit that I have waited 40 years for!!!!! Actually, that is great news as I , like many others, have multiple builds milling about in my head. I sure hope they do give us some variations of this kit and at some point a 4wd version! I can see this truck with the Midnite Cowboy wrecker bed, a Modelhaus utility bed, a scratchbuilt flatbed, a step side bed, maybe even a scratchbuilt dump bed! If I can, I will even incorporate the snow plow from the new Revell GMC kit!

C-600 Dump truck

That is a beauty! Nice details and weathering. -
That is the big difference. If you already have an account with a local parts store, chances are you are getting a better deal than what you can on the internet. Places like Rock Auto have a single location and deal strictly via the internet and therefore can price against other online prices. All of the major parts retailers (NAPA, Auto Zone, Advance, O'Reilly) have an online price, a walk in price and a shop price. Usually the retailers will price match legit prices, so don't be afraid to ask. Like our hobby, the auto parts business has seen the internet as a tool and a weapon and the smart players have figured out how to use social media and the internet to their advantage. Just remember two important things: 1. Buyer beware 2. You get what you pay for.

Model Express closing
mikemodeler replied to imarriedawitch's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Might want to double check that Andy, the thread starter, Scott Fordham, posted the message from the Model Express website, and at the bottom of the message Dennis signed it. I agree that another hobby outlet closing is not good, especially when they have built a reputation as being a great place to do business with. -
new kit 1963 f100 short bed
mikemodeler replied to jeffb's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Let me know if you need the rebel flag license plate George, they are real popular here in the South. -
There are pros and cons to everything and based on the comments here, people have had good and bad experiences dealing with them. I work for NAPA and technically RockAuto is considered a competitor even though they do not have a storefront. They are able to offer great prices because they do not have multiple locations and drop ship parts from their suppliers instead of having to stock them. Like anything bought on the internet, take your time to make sure what you are ordering is what you need to complete the job.

Sure, I don't even get the first one I bought from you started and now you give me a reason to buy another one! Thanks Jeff! -
2012 iHobby show - Round2 2013 Announcements
mikemodeler replied to Tom Kren's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Two downsides for a manufacturer not displaying at the iHobby show is that some hobby shop owners attend the show searching out the new items for their business. Yes, they can see things on the web, but the opportunity to visit with factory reps and give feedback is lost (see Donn's comments) when they are not there. The same can be said when the general public is denied access to the model companies. As social media and internet popularity continues to grow, more companies will use them to promote their products, just a simple fact of life. -
Overhaulin' returns to Velocity
mikemodeler replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I noticed that they have stopped the 7 day builds and have concentrated on building and finishing the vehicle. The format is slightly different and I like the fact that at the end of the show, they let the mark drive the car and that annoying theme song "I am gasoline" does NOT play when they start up the vehicle! -
Back for awhile
mikemodeler replied to spkgibson's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hopefully being back here helps with the problems in your life. Sometimes I find the escape here very relaxing as I can forget about life and immerse myself in plastic. -
There are quite a few from that area, including Casey, who is one of the moderators and lives near Milwaukee (Menomonee Falls). There is a great club, AMG (Automotive Modelers Group) and several others as well in and around the Milwaukee & Fox Valley area. There should be a swap meet coming up at the Serbian Hall in Milwaukee in November. Back in the day it was a great place to go for deals, haven't been there for 7-8 years but others can let you know what to expect.

Nice truck Andy, clean it up and get it ready, heard it is going to be a bad winter for you Northerners! Make sure you start it up and drive a couple of times a week. The worst thing you can do to a vehicle is let it sit- corrosion can start and seals tend to dry out.

I think your cousin just doesn't want to lend the chainsaw to you and made up the story. I have neighbors and relatives that are always asking about borrowing certain tools and they have yet to figure out that it is easier to go to Lowes or Home Depot because I make them wait until I feel like it. A neighbor wanted to borrow my leaf blower last fall. I said sure, got to get it back from my brother first. I let him know at Christmas that my brother finally returned it, he said "Nevermind, I used a rake instead". When I made a mention that he was welcome for the free exercise, he didn't get it! I have decided to not lend the following anymore to family or friends: 1. Money 2. Tools 3. Vehicle Too many potential problems and opportunities to ruin relationships. I figure the bank is where people should start if they need any of the above- they are in the business of lending money to purchase #2 & 3.
