Silver looks good and you can use different shades, from a white to almost gray. Experiment with some colors too, you might be surprised to see what actually looks nice with the purple you have chosen!

Stacey David's Rat Roaster by : REVELL
mikemodeler replied to Greg Myers's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I will have to look for one of these this weekend. Sounds like there are some parts that make this worthy of buying a few extras for! In regards to Tim Boyd's comments regarding the SBC engine choice, I understand your point but if Revell had chosen NOT to include the SBC and went with a Ford, imagine the outcry it! As it is, cutting corners on the chassis had caused a few comments. Thanks for the mini review Brett! -
Batmobile # 1 Sold At Barrett - Jackson !

The man is self-promoter but I think he had his heyday about 45 years ago. The grandson was there to help Grandpa and get 15 minutes of fame. I personally think the buyer paid about $4,000,000 too much for the car. -

I might have passed you on the way out John, I was out of there right after 11. I like the tow truck and ramper. I have a tow truck identical to yours under construction and am trying to decide on a color scheme for a fleet of tow trucks that I have in mind. Glad to hear you won some awards, I will have to get my butt in gear and bring some of my builds for the next show. Do you belong to SCMA? -
If that is all you have, then no need to worry about an addiction. That sounds like a typical weekend for many of us! Seriously though, some of us tend to buy several lifetimes worth of models and me personally, I have started to "thin the herd" as I am realizing that my building pace is about 1/10th of my buying pace!

Roy, Being across "the pond" will pose some obstacles to finding what you want but doesn't mean it is impossible! To answer your question regarding the Ford Pickups from the 70s, the last time one of those kits were offered was about 5 years ago when The Model King reissued the old AMT 79 Ford F350 4x4. If found today on eBay, they can be quite pricey. You may want to check with places like The Modelroundup, Dean's Hobby Stop, The Model Empire or Fred Sterns as they all deal in out of production kits and they may have all 3 that you are looking for. The Dodge Warlock kit has not been available for quite some time but the 2 wheel drive version, The Little Red Express, was offered not to long ago. They occasionally pop up on eBay at fairly reasonable prices. The Ford Bronco you reference needs some clarification. There was an AMT kit of a '79 that was reissued about 6 years ago by The Model King that included a car trailer and '68 Cougar funny car. It can be found but it is quite pricey as well. Then there is the '80 Bronco kit from Revell that is a different body style and AMT offered an '81 Bronco as well. Over the years there were different variations but all can be had, depending on what exactly you are looking for. Patience and knowledge are key to finding what you want. I picked up an old MPC Ford van 4x4 kit yesterday at a swap meet in South Carolina that I had wanted for awhile but didn't want to pay eBay prices so my wait paid off! happy Hunting and welcome to the forum!

Went to the SCMA "Hope it doesn't snow" show and swap meet today. Got some inspiration and a couple of models- an MPC 4x4 Ford Van and a Revell 64 Chevy pickup. Mailman is supposed to deliver some Gofer decals I ordered from Modelroundup today and that should keep me busy for awhile!

No need to worry about an addiction unless you have piles of WIPs , a couple of hundred kits still sealed, more paint and detail items than you know what to do with and you still decide to visit here instead of your workbench! Me, I figure you have to fill your time with something and this has been the one hobby that is the cheapest and easiest to sell the wife on!

For the Children of the RUST
mikemodeler replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Nice video Doc, at first i thought it might be Chuck Most's backyard but then I saw all of the GM vehicles and knew it couldn't be! I would love to win the lottery and buy a place like that! I would hire a bunch of bodymen and mechanics and have them get as many of those trucks back on the road as quickly as possible! -
To add to Kevin's comments, if you have NEVER cast a part before, you definitely don't want to start with a body! I realize you are Down Under, but you are best to find someone locally who can help you or do it for you as you could mess up the master. In the long run it might be cheaper to do another conversion like you did of the first one than to try and resin cast another copy. Not sure how popular a 4 door 58 Chevy would sell so you may find it hard for a resin caster to make them unless you pay for the complete costs. Best of luck and it is nice of you to make that for your Dad!

I went and was able to see the models and walk the swap meet in about 30 minutes. Kind of disappointed as the swap meet had A LOT of airplane and military kits and not much in the way of car kits. I did manage to pick up a MPC 4x4 Ford Van still sealed for $20 and another Revell 64 Chevy pickup. I did see some nice stuff at P&P Resin, just might have to place an order this week. Many nice models on display and there were people streaming in at 11, so I probably missed a few more quality builds. Hopefully someone will post some pictures later today or tomorrow. -
Scale Auto Hobby & Toy Shows 2013 Schedule

I just might have to make a trip up to Beer Town in April. I haven't been to the show in years and despite some of the talk about die cast, I always managed to find some deals and even a couple of Holy Grails ! Do any of the resin guys make it to the show? -
Craig, No offense taken, I just thought I would toss that out there because like you said, there is always someone complaining about a lack of a 76 Buick Skylark 4 door model he wants to represent his first car! I am guilty of collecting multiple versions of tri-five Chevies, 67-69 Camaros and 32 Fords and am looking forward to what "NEW" stuff is coming our way. I wouldn't be opposed to the model companies updating or re-working some existing kits because we all have a list of kits that with a little help and 21st Century technology, could be much better representations! BTW- how hard was it for Revell to come up with that COPO 69 Camaro ? I think they cheated and combined parts from the Yenko Camaro and COPO Nova !
-
As always, nice work Tom, looking forward to the finished model.
-
The AMT kits are just reissues and in most cases I would take the Revell over the AMT , especially looking at your list. I think it is a great time to be a model builder with all that is being sent our way.
-
Craig, Just so you know, I am not against more 32 Fords, I would rather like to see some other kits that either haven't been kitted before, need updating or are an improvement on what is out there. I, like many others, am anxiously awaiting what new stuff is coming. I feel that we are seeing a bit of a resurgence in the hobby thanks to Mobeius and hopefully it is a sign of better days for us modelers.

Will do John. I would say look for the middle aged, fat balding guy but there will be more than one of us there! -

Wife told me this morning that I had to go to this show otherwise I would just be grumpy and miserable all weekend. I guess I better check my lunch money savings account to see what goodies I can buy! -
I thought Stanley Steamer was the carpet cleaning company????? Nice one Harry.

My sentiments exactly. After 10 plus years I grew tired of the various reasons for the delays and the occasional damaged copy. I wish I could say I miss not getting the magazine but in my busy world, I don't. Maybe if the magazine was available in a digital format I might be interested. I am surprised that at 11 pages we have not heard from Gregg, is everything okay with him these days?

The one ton wheels would be correct for the Strickler truck, but the others shown would need wheels from a larger truck (think 20 inch wheels from a 2 1/2 ton) . If you are going curbside, the Ford Louisville truck might be the right wheelbase(or easily modified), otherwise the L-700 is probably your best bet.
-
Does it pull the front wheels off the ground when you launch it? I think that is what comes to mind for most people when they think of a sleeper, a vehicle with an unsuspecting look to it but with massive horsepower and performance. I knew a guy who drove an 81 Malibu wagon with steel wheels and whitewalls. For added effect he went to Goodwill and bought a baby seat for the back seat and threw a couple of blankets in the "way back" to look like a grocery getter Mom-mobile. Those blankets hid his nitrous tanks and the car would run mid 10 second passes in the quarter mile, made many a fool out of Vette, Camaro, Mustang and other muscle car owners!
