  1. I know this is an old post but this was closest thing I could find to same question I have. How do you weather race cars, nascars, Le Mans, etc that look like they actually raced? Do you mist black or brown thru an airbrush over the entire car? How do you do road/race grime?
  2. Very nice! I love the 308s in racing schemes. I especially like how yours has the wheels stuffed in there with “meaty” tires. Also, which gold is that used on the wheels? Looking to do the same on a P4.
  3. Good to know- thanks for the tip. You never really think about spare parts until you need them.
  4. Looking forward to finding some good deals as always next weekend,
  5. Hi- I picked up a Master Airbrush model G77 with the fancap / fan spray tip as well as normal spray patter for $50 new. I have only used it with Vallejo and it sprays excellent in my eyes. I am still a novice with using an airbrush, but I guess due to the fan pattern there is less opportunity to make mistakes given the more paint coverage and also more paint can pass thru the needle (less clogging and dry tip). It feels a lot like using a hobby rattle can in terms of coverage, distance, etc.I know Vallejo primer can be tough to lay down but when I used the AB it came out very, very smooth. Just wanted to pass my feedback along in case anyone else is struggling or looking at making a purchase.
  6. I frequent reddit since it basically is a community of anything you can think of on the internet and is easy to find interesting subject matters (like r/evilbuldings); if you've never been to the site before prepare to have 6 hours disappear in front of you. There are a couple model related communities but r/modelmakers has heavy user traffic. Unfortunately the user base are mainly newbies and a younger crowd whom could benefit from a site like this and its knowledge. Some of the questions seem to be word for word on both sites like "whats the best glue to use on..". I just wanted to share you could visit the site like I do and reference the great material here which will hopefully better serve both communities.
  7. Agree this looks awesome. You really captured the exterior paint job nicely. And thank you, now I'll have The Power of Love stuck in my head all week. Which is also awesome.
  8. thanks for the background and info peteski. I didn't realize AC were also brushless in this application. Appears then the DC advantage must be for the original consumer/intent.
  9. Thanks for keeping us updated dated AFX. Agree the Toro Rosso looks nice but its second to my favorite- Ferrari. Love the Italian flag on the shark fin...maybe it will give them the extra oomph this year to catch Mercedes.
  10. Is this a game changer since its now brushless? From reading earlier posts, the concern seems to be around fumes and potential sparks which should not be anymore with brushless I would assume. Might need two depending on the booth but still cheaper than other options as DIY. 11. My grandfather was retired military and we would go to the BX / PX every weekend at a large air force base in IL. They had a ton of models, paint and glue when I was a kid in the 90's, especially cars and US jets. Ironically after the Cold War ended it seemed they carried more military stuff; especially Russian armor like Mi- helicopters. I believe they stopped selling right around the 2000s.
  12. Looks like CA tools is running a sale on their website this weekend. They have it with free shipping for $108. The video was actually a good side by side http://www.californiaairtools.com/ultra-quiet-oil-free-air-compressors/3-5-hp-air-compressor/cat-1p1060s/
  13. Agree with the above. The all black and white lettering makes it look nice and mean.
  14. Thanks all for the feedback! Easier to see in some of the close up pics but I hand brushed the green on the windshield and side glass. Even though the Tamiya clear colors are very forgiving I may try again at airbrushing. I've heard some practice on spoons; I actually tried clear plastic dessert plates given more surface area but still no luck. Maybe next time.
  15. None taken! Guess I can say I fooled the experts because it's hard to tell them apart. Really though the pictures hide a lot of imperfections. I do plan to build the original version, white, but with opening doors and hood.
  16. The blue and black trim, whale tail looks really nice on that turbo. Isn't that Lumberg's car from Office Space? Ha
  17. Hi- The is my first build post after perusing the site for tips and tricks for many months in which I have learned a ton (still need to try BMF and airbrushing). The first pic is where I got the idea to build a scaled up replica. Its the same size as a Hot Wheels and made by Johnny Lightning, the Fright'ning Lightning series back in the 90's. There are lots of color variations of the Ecto 1A, silver, blue/green, green, orange and a white Halloween edition but I think the orange and black look the best. I have collected them all with the exception of the white lightning series...The proton pack was printed from plans on thingiverse.com The kit is the Round2 AMT Ecto 1a. I used Vallejo for the roof rack, tamiya for the light bars and testors spray can for the body. Any comments on how to improve are welcomed.
  18. Hopefully the "heat wave" draws a big crowd this weekend!
  19. Thanks all. Forgot about chalks and will look into trying those. The link looks promising too; will bookmark that for some figures I have planned later on as well.
  20. Hi- searched the forums but didnt seem to find what I was looking for i think. I have a motor/equipment generator that i have painted flat black and i wanted to age it a bit as well as highlight the details. Is there a way to do a wash on something that is black; opposite of whats normally done using a black wash? I thought about dry brushing maybe a really dark blue to show its sun faded or something? I also thought about silver but i don't want it to look damaged, just faded and or pick out the details. Thanks in advance for the support.
  21. +1 for Big Trouble in Little China. "Just remember what Jack Burton always says...the check is in the mail" "Who's Jack Burton?"
  22. Looks like to me .63 / 16 mm for the wheel and .60 / 15 mm for the tire if I am reading it right. Hope that helps.
  23. I use to like Monster Garage with Jesse James. That was before all the current reality shows. He would come up with the design and average builders a got to be on the show. There were some neat things built and good fights.
  24. Very nice job and great pictures. I have a couple I am in the middle of building as well. On the interchangeable boards, how did you glue the two halves together that hold the sign in? I am surprised there were no locator pins or anything to fit them together.
