'32 Ford Vicky custom rod (Island Hopper)
Dirty Dave replied to Dirty Dave's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I'm thinking that about recontouring the bottom of the body slightly to give it more "sweep" and to let it flow better with the fender lines. The raised character line across the bottom of the rear may also go away too, if I don't replace it with some kind of roll pan or custom bumper/nerfs. Am not sure how I want to route the exhaust yet. There is a set of machined aluminum perforated heat shields that I've been saving for the right project, but also have been wanting to build something with multiple scavenger pipes poking out from under the rear axle. -
I'll be interested to see how you build this as 12-year old you.

Art, everytime I look up one of your builds, it's like taking a master class. Bravo! -
'32 Ford Vicky custom rod (Island Hopper)
Dirty Dave replied to Dirty Dave's topic in WIP: Model Cars
They're Pegasus Sovereigns. I replaced the rear tires with the little slicks from the Monogram Slingster, which were a perfect fit. I think I'll probably add whitewalls or white lines to the slicks. -
I had an itch to build a '60s Hawaiian-style hot rod after watching the latest installment of Mad Fabricators' Society, so I went down to the LHS and picked up AMT's recently-reissued '32 Ford Vicky. Like East coast rods, island cars seem to be known for being deeply channelled, often running molded, raised fenders, and with as much sports car influence as hot rod style. I started by modifying the interior to accomodate a deep channel (10+ scale inches?). After that, I re-shaped the front fenders: A couple of shots of my mock-up with the kit-supplied custom fenders mounted a few scale inches above where originally designed: Engine for now looks like it will be a Hilborn-injected early SBC, but we'll see how that all works out.

A gas dragster won't need a radiator - just a small tank with some cold water in it. If it's an alcohol dragster, it realy won't even need that.

EXCELLENT!

Croooooze missile?

That's great! Watercooled, so you can run a hose to the radiator?

Lindberg 1/16 Bull Horn T-Bucket updated 3-7

Very cool. I keep looking at that kit, and considering the possibilities. WIth the Minicraft Model A's for swap bait, it really opens up some interesting avenues. -
If that's an Abarth engine, I'd expect to see a finned, large-capacity oil pan. I am really enjoying watching this build come together. Maybe when yours is done, we can stage a war game/drag race?

This build is relevant to my interests. Great job! -
I love the "twist" this build has taken. I look forward to seeing what's next!

I thought it was an ebay purchase, but it doesn't show up in my recent hisory. Maybe I picked it up at the LHS, instead.

I remember an older friend that had a '68 in the late '70s. Shag carpet, stink bug stance, N50's in the rear and skunk stripes over a Z/28 hood. Yup, those were some funky times. I think I like where yours is going better,

Not sure. It's been more than 20 years since I last laid eyes on it, and I'm guessing that he's passed in the years since. When I saw it in the barn where it was stored, it was outfitted with two suspended aircraft seats mounted on the front bumper. He had used it to hunt in the '60s, and then changed over to photographic safaris.

Holy heck! This thing reminds me of a similarly built Africa safari rig owned by a friend of my fathers. I don't know why he brought it back to the States after using for several trips to the dark continent, but I guess when you have that kind of money... Anyway, now that I've found this build, I'll be following with interest.

It is the standard Testors enamel purple. After applying the pinstripe decals, I gave it a coat of flat clear for that tinted primer look. After doing a similar paint job to another model about ten years ago, and I decided I wanted one like that in my display case again.

Thanks! The lower profile tires in the front didn't hurt, either.

Thanks guys. I was determined to get this thing before Modelfest at the Camarillo Air Museum on the 22nd, and I juuuust made it.
