How often do you visit Hobby Lobby?
Bruce Poage replied to dantewallace's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes, they are closed on Sunday--good. I am lucky to be within a mile of HObby Lobby. The coupon comes out of the Sunday paper and on the bulletin board weekly. My purchases may include a kit but more likely supplies and other craft items I can used. I am nos using some Krylon paints and like the 40% off. Earlier this spring I bought two car guy iems. They are stacks of tires that are supposed to be pen/pencil holders. I find them great for paint brushes and atmosphere. -
How to Remove "Ghost Trim"
Bruce Poage replied to diymirage's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Working on '57 Chevy 1/2 ton. I wanted a clean hood look. Thus I sanded the ridges that have a chrome spear point in the front. The hood is smooth. I shot and sanded Dupli-Color white primer as usual and it all looked good. That followed several coats of Krylon Iris and clear. As I buff out the paint is see the outline of the "bumps" I had removed. Somewhere I read info that when removing molded trim from a body a ghost of that trim may reappear. The article contained a solution. I am clueless about where I read this article. Can anyone pass along hints regarding how to take care of this ghost. Thanking you as always. -
Studebaker Champ
Bruce Poage replied to Clay's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
It would be my guess you have here a resin cab and box. I find this exciting as my dad ordered a '61Stude Champ in Omaha Orange. It had an automatic and sliding rear window.. It seems as though it had chrome front bumper and grill. It would move pretty fast. As a senior in high school I felt pretty cool driving this around Norton, Kansas. Obviously there was not another like it in town--or maybe the state. There weren't many Champs. Are these resin pieces? If so, can you recall where you found them. Knowing how few changes there were in the last years of Studes it is possible this would fit on the Johan convert frame. -

I've started assembly on '57 Chevy Stepside Hot Trucks kit #6309. When I wire and plumb I want to be sure of the firing order. I see no information on the instruction sheet regarding which engine is in the kit. Can anyone provide assistance or do I just "wing it". Thanks.

In the past three months it seems I have seen info/pics of a hobbyist who built a pickup box floor using "C" plastic rod and wood strips. I want to give this a try buy as well but want more info regarding what worked for him. If you can point me in the direction of this earlier information it would be mucho appreciated. Thanks.

It's time to work on something a little different. One of my choices--from the stash, would be the Revell '26 Sedan Delivery. So at this point I am wondering if there are any "red flags" or building hints from those of you who have already completed this kit. Thanking you in advance.

The current project is a box stock '58 T-Bird. This has always been a favorite of mine as I was only 14 when I checked out a brand new one in a dealers show room!! Of course there is lots of chrome! It seems that I have seen info regarding builders spraing a matte or satin clear on all of the chrome to make it appear more realistic. What are the collective thoughts of this group?

Just read again the interesting article in issu #170 regarding scribing panel lines. This author suggests using black MIG wash for these lines. I'd like to give this a try. But where do I find MIG wash and what is it used for outside the world of model car building? Thanks.

Dayjobs

I spent 39 years in Kansas public education as elementary teacher, elementary/junior counselor. I retired in 2006 and then went back to work for 2 years as para-educator. Then I was asked to work as Facilities Administrator for a new and growing stand alone Bible church, Fellowship Bible Church. In just 4.5 years weekend atttendance has doubled from 800 to 1600. Too much for this old guy to take care of. I will retire again in December but have my eye on some volunteer locations. If all else fails maybe I can start to make a dent in the 132 models on my stash shelves. It's all been fun. -
This kit is the next one on my list as well. Can you offer any pointers, hints on the frenched headlights? Thanks.

who is going to the KC Slammers show sunday june 10th?
Bruce Poage replied to route66modeler's topic in Contests and Shows
From Topeka I plan to be there! -
Good advice. I am Facilities Administator at a large church where bottled water is always available to those who worship on a weekend. In spite of containers for recyclables we always find a number of empty or partially empty bottles here and there. After dumping the waterI bring the caps home.

I've read several positive comments about using ScratchX to polish out a paint job. My practice in the past has been to used graduated series of sanding pads then buffed with wax. But I am always looking for new ideas. What are the thoughts as to what is he best scenario for using ScratchX or should it be used for specific finish problems. Thanks in advance for the ponters.

I'm wanting to build a mild street '53 Chevy. I want to swap out the 6 for a mild V8. What are some suggested swaps and in what kit would I find them. Thanks.

Was there ever a resin '53 or '54 Chevy 2 door produced? If so, where can I get information on purchsing one? Thanks.

I was browsing some car mags looking for inspiration for the next project. I saw a cool '54 Chevy that got my creative juices flowing. I have but few 1:1 or 1/25 scale mechanical skills or knowledge. I'm wanting to swap a V-8 and tranny into a '53 Chevy. What suggestions would you offer and where would I find the combination? Thanks.
