  1. Hooray! I'm glad to see I have another reason to purchase a new T-shirt. I must have made an error when I ordered the recent black in in size "L". It doesn't seem to fit anymore. Could that be a bad case of "chest-in-dawers"? So I see there are several styles and colors coming. Gregg, can you share a little more. Ya' know I'm kinda retired(retreaded) and can't afford too many new shirts! Thanks.
  2. Thanks Gregg. I am also one of those people who thinks profanity has no place anywhere. I like your philosophy and admonishment!
  3. So like many others I am using more and more acrylic paints. Is their a specific type(variety) of paint brush that works best for a smooth coat of acrylic paints? I have been thinning brushed acrylic for interiors. Is water the best thing to use to thin acrylics? Thanks.
  4. That grill is a great touch. I join the majority--awesome build. But I have a question. The bed floor is great in detail. How did you make the metal strips between the flooring boards in the box? I recently purchased some scale 1" X 6" material for the flooring of an upcoming '58 DelRay sedan delivery. It would look even better with metal strips between the wood.
  5. This has been excellent reading on a very rainy day in northeast Kansas. (Our prayers are for the Texans!) The cat pic--great and being forwarded to friends. But now to the serious part, another question. I too am using acrylics for interiors and engine compartments. Some seem to dry at the overlap when doing larger area. This doesn't contribute to a smooth finished look. I noted that you can thin these with water. But it seems that I read somewhere that you can also use some type of solvent, thinner, alcohol, whatever to thin acrylics as well. Does anyone have experience or thoughts about that? Thanks for all of the information.

  7. There it was in the mailbox. It was another great issue of Model Cars Magazine. There was something there for a variety of audiences: diecast, resin, formula, new kits, show pictures, readers. You do a great job Gregg. Then this week I received my copy of the other hobby publication. While I am always glad to receive info and ideas regarding this great hobby I wonder if the other publication may soon be called a "pamphlet" instead of a magazine due its shrinking size!?!? Enjoy your Labor Day holiday.
  8. When I was about 10 my dad would give me $1.00 so I could get a haircut and a bottle of Coca-Cola. Now I am 64. The amount of hair to be cut has decreased by 40% but the aircut is now a bargain @13.00!! I've been putting models together since I was 13. I have no plans to stop now. After all I have 115 unopened kits which are calling out for help!!!
  9. All right!! That looks great. I am currently working on a resin '58 DelRay sedan delivery. Where did this '55 body come from?
  10. I had planned on several entries for the Heartland Nationals in Kansas City this weekend. But time didn't allow those projects to be anywhere completed. So Plan B was to drive the 70 miles to KC to view entries. But the price of gas will put Plan C into action. That means I will attend church as always and spend the afternoon at home. But the bottom line is the fact the price of gas won't really affect my modelling. We went on vacation two weeks ago. We spent 23 hours in 7 airports trying to reschedule 13.5 hours of flying. I' m ready to stay home.
  11. Can we please keep these political opinions and points of view off this great side. Thanks!
  12. I'm not into whinning> I just apprecite and all that Gregg does to boost the hobby. But since this topic was opened again, it is really slow here in Topeka, KS as well. Thanks for all of your efforts. I look forward to more speed. Thanks again.
  13. New hobby shop in town!! For a change this isn't a newsy bit regading a hobby shop closing it's doors. How refreshing. In Topeka the new shop(locallyowned) is Hobby Depot in Barrington Village on SW 29th. The name implies railroad which it is--and more. Model kits are on the way. But you will already find a growing paint supply as well as sheet plastic, metal, glues, etc. Check it out.
  14. The current project on the table is a '58 Chevy DelRay. Of course it s resin body with chasis, etc. from '58 Impala. I will use the resin interior tub with Chrysler 300 front seats. The side panels on the interior tub are flat and plain. I want to create interesting side panels that I might even carry back to the side panels of the rear portion. Throw me some suggestions for creating these side panels. The recent article on rebuilt Ferrari gave me some good ideas on interior materials. Thanks.
  15. I keep some duplicates unopened just because. As you speak of the Studebaker that you have you need to read the history of Studebaker Corp, All They Ever Asked For. I have some assembled and unassembled Studes., As a young man I had several 1:1 and dad had Studebaker trucks on the farm. You would find the book interesting.
  16. I often use Tamiya Smoke X-19 acrylic for detailing. I have used The Detailer and also noted the blueish tone as it dried.
  17. Gee Ripp, it is nice to have another young fellow on board. I can see 64 on the calendar. I've been bulding since I was(Revell Highway Pioneers)---a loooonnnggg time!!
  18. Welcome to a great place. You will find this to be the best site in the hobby. Egos are usually absent and good advice is usually present. I've been messing with plastic since 1956. Never too old!!
  19. Santa was good to me: Pat Covert's Building Model Cars, Rifler File set, naew Merc kit, Kranze LXZ wheels, Carquest 1970 Ford Mustang, two publications about Studebakers. Yippee!!
  20. With all of the different brands of model paints available. Which rattle can is most user friendly? Many speak well of Tamiya. I saw a demonstration of the new HOK. Model Master has lacquers and there ore others. Before I start my next project, '58 Chevy DelRay sedan delivelry I need to choose a paint and get it ordered. It is hard to find anything locally. What would you suggest?
  21. I finished a new basement hobby room about a year ago. It is a similar size to what you have. I built a workbench on two walls. While out walking with the wife one day we found the pieces of what once was an armoir made of chipboard with a plastic laminate surface. As soon as I could get the Dodge Dakota I picked up the pieces and hauled them home. Several of the big pieces are my workbench. The spray booth is across the room from the one sectioin of the workbench and is vented outside. I have shelves above the workbench with multiple cigar boxes for pieces and parts. I found some stepped spice racks at Target. My bottle paints are on these racks around the corner on the other part of the bench. On the same wall as the paint box I stacked about 8 old plastic milk crates to make book shelves for my many model magazines that I have put in binders. The one wall I have yet to mention has more shelves for about 125 unopened kits. Some old license plates, car show pics and other car memorabilia decorate the walls. I forgot to mention the CD play with a stack of music that ranges from drum corps shows to gospel quartets to Kansas. It is a fun polace to be.
  22. I like the wagon. My dad bought a new white Star Chief in 1958. It was a real mover. You ae correct that the shape isn't exactly flat. Is there a particular brand name or type of clear plastic sheet you used? Did you have to do some heating of the clear to bend it on the sides? Thanks.
  23. When the outside temp drops it is time to warm up some plastic. My project is a '58 Chevy Del Ray sedan delivery. I have a resin body I got somewhere, sometime. This came complete with the interior bucket. It looks good. My question is the rear window. Has anyone worked with this resin piece? Having very litte experience with resin bodies what suggestion do you have for coming up with a rear window. The users of this site are never short on answers/advice/suggestions!?!?!?! Thanks.
  24. I used to chair a Modeling and Mentoring activity for kids. We used those kits. They are fun and easy. Someplace we had purchased for a nominal fee a video that was an intro to modeling. We tried to incorporate that as it had some good "dos and don'ts". Kids like this activity as they get almost immediate gratification. Have fun. Nobody loses in these activities.
