I am working a two color paint scheme on a sedan delivery. I plan to do the usual 3 mist coats and 3 finish coats. Then I will need to mask for the second color. I use a dehydrator at about 103 degrees. How soon after applying last coat oof first color and putting in the dehydrator should I wait before masking for the second color? I will clear afterward. As one coat is newer than the other how long would you sugget waiting to wet sand and apply clear. Or may be I won't have to wet sand just clear. Thoughts and suggestions please--and thank you!!

What are the current thought, methods of stripping chrome from headers, rims, etc. I have used oven cleaner but would like to find something not quite so caustic. Thanks.

In the situation of the pickup with the yellow pinstripe, I assume is is painted and not tape. If so, what is the process? Is the strip painted last by masking everything else? Or, is the yellow painted first and then masked before painting the other colors? Just curious--67 years old and still learning!! Merry Christmas to all!!

Building '66 Buick Wildcat strictly out of box. The motor is supposedly 401 CI. Would the motor color have been a blueish-green? If so how would you suggest I replicate this color? Thanks and enjoy this day of thanks.

Acrylic paint cleaner?

Oh yes, that 91% is good for stripping lacquer that "purple power" won't touch. -
Acrylic paint cleaner?
Bruce Poage replied to hellonwheelz3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wow, how timely--I was doing some research on that question myself. I have read of a product for artist acrylic called "pink soap". I was wondering if lacquer thinner is best for use while spending several hours at the workbench. But as you prepare to leave close a work session maybe a good washing with "pink soap" would prolong the life of the red sable brush. Thoughts? -
Older KIts At Hobby Depot
Bruce Poage replied to Bruce Poage's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There is only city in the USA named Topeka! Glad you are curious and sorry you are a litle grouchy. Owner is Tim. Phone mumber is 785/271-4451 and email is hobbydepottopeka@att.net. Good luck. -
I just returned from my local hobby shop in Topeka. The owner, Tim pointed out a large collection of older kits he had just purchased from a lady whose husband died recently. Nothing real fancy mind you but some pretty nice older kits. Most had been opened but Tim has gone through most of them to be sure they are complete. Check it out at Hobby Depot in Barrington Village at 29th and Arrowhead.

I know some guys wear a thin, white glove when getting in to the finishing stages of a model. This keeps the finish free of oil and residue from glue, etc. I have seen these in catalogs. What are some suggestions and what can be found locally?

http://s1117.photobucket.com/albums/k583/BruceandMary47/ I’ve never posted a picture before so here goes! This is a recent project. This was an opened kit minus the Harley Davidson decals. So what! I had never tried a 3 color paint job before. This is Tamiya paint and clear. The engine was wired, rolled pans, Kranze wheels and Chrysler side mirrors. The inside of the cargo area was upholstered with colored athletic trainer tape. I’ve been building since 1958 and still havin’ fun.

"whiting" Raised Letters on Tires
Bruce Poage posted a topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
So what is the latest thinking on the best way to paint the raised lettering on tires. I thik somewhere I read someone was putting a coat of white acrylic on an old CD and then "stamping" the tire sidewall on the white. Reaction?? My wife uses a white pencil to mark seam, etc. location when sewing. Just looking for ideas. Thanks to this think tank as usual. -
I found some notes I had made in 2006 regarding Acme Platemaker. Is that the latest word regarding custom plates? Someone used to make plates and sell them. I need some plates and would be willing to pay if I could find some good ones. What does the Model Car Magazine think tank have to say about this?

KC Slammers show
Bruce Poage replied to route66modeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'll be at least one representative from Topeka. Grandson #3 has two soccer games in KC on Sunday. My break between games will be a trip to Slammers Show. Nothing to put on the table this year. Hope to do some browsing, a little buying and a word or two with several Slammers.
