The custom pieces on the 63 Galaxie came in the kit. Well I should say the inbuilt Galaxie convey kit I picked up. The custom was a rebuild I got from eBay that did not have the cool glass top.

These next two were completed during the 24-hr. build. Thanks for looking; all comments welcomed.

Kit Review! AMT 1963 Chevrolet Impala SS Annual kit
RDean58 posted a topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I recently acquired one of these for a really good price. After having a lot of the re-issues (prestige kit, the green kit one, and the latest) I was not sure what I would find. I have to tell you that the original issue of this kit blew me away on accuracy of body, engine detail, and chrome tree execution. Okay, the exhaust manifolds look more like small block ones than 409 exhausts but, it was a nicely designed kit with (except for the hideous {my opinion} custom treatment) was well executed. It's too bad Round two could not bring back all the original pieces for this kit. Thanks for looking, enjoy! More box pics and contents here! -
Hello again everyone! I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. The trip to Baltimore from South Dakota went great, very little rain, no snow sleet or ice! Visiting the grand kids was cool. Now, on with the business at hand, the AMT 63 Impala convertible had been soaking in purple power for ten days. I took it out and a lot of the original blue did come off, but I shot it with some easy off oven cleaner and let it soak for a couple of hours. Then I scrubbed it with a brush and here are the final results. While on vacation I kept tabs on that auction site and managed to pick up some 63 Impala original parts. Mostly all there except for the engine and body, but it also has a set of tires, hubcaps, fresh frame, and an unpainted interior. The spare parts came with original front and rear bumpers and the original box too. And the up top, which is just sitting on there right now. A little tire burn on the side, but that should be fixable. Here is how it looked when I got it. I'm not sure if I am going to use the injected engine or go with a stock one. Thanks for looking, it's nice to be back! All comments welcomed.

That is a cool looking 64!

I managed to score another unbuilt 64 convertible and decided I wanted to build it like the one my dad had back in the late 70s. It was a dark blue, almost black with a light metallic blue interior. He traded the really pretty 68 Buick 225 (that got about 8 mpg) for it. The guy he got it from said the speedometer was broken, he was racing someone and broke it so he didn't know how fast he was going. Yeah, Yeah, we've heard that story before. Flash forward, I was an 18 year old kid who was encouraged by my dad to drive fast, so that is what I did with the convertible. It had a 283 with 2bbl carb and a four speed. I could rev the engine up to 3500 RPM and dump the clutch and it would fall on it's face. We figured it had some high highway gearing in it. Once we got it moving it seemed like there was no stopping it. This is the ONLY car I was scared in and backed it down one time, and I've had my 86 Mercury Capri 5.0 up to 124mph one time. We eventually burned out the clutch or killed the engine, I don't remember which, but it was a really fun car for awhile. I would always use the seat belts when I drove it, you know, to be safe. My dad told me that when he went to remove them all he did was to pull the belt out of the floor, it was so rusted. Oh yeah, the drivers rear quarter panel was basically bondo. But it looked good in the sun when it was clean. We hardly ever drove it with the top up because, back then the back "glass" was a sheet of heavy plastic that over the years would yellow. Ours was so bad you couldn't see out the back when the top was up. So, on with the build. This is painted with Tamiya TS-53 dark mica blue (I think that is what it's called, I don't have the can next to me). I borrowed the interior from another 64 I've got going, the one for this will be Nassau blue metallic without a clear coat. Since I already had a set of the SS hubcaps painted I stole them from another one. I will find me a small block engine for this and put that in. The kit came with boot and uptop. Unfortunately the lighting system for this kit is broke so it will not have the operational lights on it. But I'll fix up the front lenses so they look more like headlights. Since our convertible sat low, I put the axles in the lowered position, looks pretty good down a little from stock I think. Here are a couple of pictures with the base interior color done. Thanks for looking, all comments welcomed.

That is looking pretty good. It may be too late now but the floor should be blue. Chevy color coordinated their interiors back then.

I got this one a few years ago when we cleaned out my wife's moms house. Her father used to build a few models. Have fun! Box pics, contents, and instructions here.

I got this one last year or so. It came with two chrome trees and parts from two kits, but one stock tail light. Enjoy ? Box pics, contents, and instructions here

Box pics, contents, and instructions here I have been trying to get one of these for a long time, but they were always too expensive. This one was about a third of the price of the others. I am getting a new release 65 Modified stocker for the parts I'm missing like a stock 289 engine, radiator support, and hood.

First soak with Easy Off. It came out pretty good so I'm doing it again ? All comments welcomed.

No, that is the way AMT molded it back in 1964! It looks really good.
-
The top is not glued on, just sitting on the body. I plan on a rebuild sometime in the future.
-
Right now I'm leaving them alone as I have about 15 other rebuilds to do. These are destined to be cleaned and or stripped and repainted, maybe.
-
The original kit came with lights the builder installed. AMT did that with the 64 Impala and Galaxie kits.

At least I have good front and rear bumpers and a hood for the other one I got recently. This one may turn into a custom because of the dead frame, dead glass, and burn mark on the body. We will see if the old paint comes off or not. Thanks for looking, all comments welcomed.

I think these are annuals because they have the four ribs molded to the tail light lenses, I just have to figure out how to paint them. A bonus with this one is the full set of 1962 Ford Galaxie hubcaps, they will go on my stock build of a 62 Galaxie hardtop I got. Thanks for looking, all comments welcomed.

Original issue AMT 64 Impala SS convertible, even has the lights installed.

Sorry about that, I was originally going to put some galaxies in this post as well but ran out of time. They will be posted shortly ?
