  1. I never got the "official" Revell kit of the ZR1 because the only difference was the hubcaps and steel wheels. Since I have quite a few of the 69 Novas I decided to take the tires/wheels and caps from one of those, the big block engine from the Revell 65 Impala SS kit and make my own ZL1. It will be painted Daytona Yellow. I found some smaller diameter tires that fit the wheel wells better but will still use those rims.
  2. I needed to get the 65 Impala for the engine for another project (home grown ZL1 69 Camaro). I got a Revell 69 Z/28 Camaro to build it and would have a left over 302. What to do? I'm taking the valve covers from the Revell 64 Impala and putting them on this 302, instant 327! The engine looks small in there. I have used the victor intake from a Moebius 64 Nova kit and almost have the engine built, but no pics. Here is how I'm building it. I've secured a set of Cragers from an AMT 65 El Camino kit and I need to find some tires.
  3. Another MCW body I got back in December, I am combining this with the AMT 62 Bel Air frame and the six cylinder from the AMT 60 Chevy pickup.
  4. I got this body from MCW resins and decided to combine it with a Revell 1966 Frame. The parts line up really well. Still working on tires/wheels.
  5. What we need on this board is a complaint section, where everyone can post their dislikes or opinions on how bad model kits are. That way people who just want to see the kits contents and get a feel for it will not be subject to all the negative comments. I am so tired about hearing the defects and errors or omissions or "lousy, lazy, mediocre," kit comments. Off my soapbox now. The Nova kits have a lot of good things going for them and like it has been said at least 10,000 times before, no kit is accurate down to the .000001 of an inch. Can't be done, we don't have the technology to shrink a real car down to 1/25th size. Sorry about that, maybe next century ?
  6. I did some painting on the Nova today, Tamiya TS-54 light metallic without a clear coat. Tail section was painted with Tamiya Silver leaf Interior was shot with Testors auto lacquer Nassau Blue without a clear coat. Dash and steering column are TS-54 light metallic This was painted with Odds & Ends flat black To finish up my painting I did the exhaust in Tamiya flat aluminum. Thats all for now, thank you for looking. All comments welcomed.
  7. Since this is being re-issued, I thought I'd post some pics of the one I finally completed after three repaints. Started it in 2000 and finally got it done in 2020. I had to separate the windshield from the bag glass to get it all to fit. Nice old kit. Painted the Testor's Plum Crazy enamel. with flat purple interior and purple flocking. I should have detailed the caps on the wire hub caps but I just ran out of desire to do any more detailing on it. I'm not sure if I'll get a new issue or not, but the trailer is cool.
  8. What are those funky valve covers in the upper left of the picture? They look like they are for a big block but I've never seen Chevy BB valve covers like that.
  9. I don't know if this has been posted or not, but here is a picture of the new custom corvette kit I got from Hobby Search in Japan.
  10. Very cool Merc. Both the real one and the model!
  11. Lots of fun was had by all, some were victorious, others not. Some, like me, dragged the stubborn mules across the finish line regardless of how hard they protested! MPC 1969 Pontiac Bonneville convertible Resin rally wheels and aftermarket gauge decals. Painted Tamiya TS-97 Pearl yellow over Testors' Daytona yellow. This is the one with the cut out for a truck version which I was not going to use. So I filled the gap on the underside with Tamiya putty and thought I had the problem fixed. Nope, the cut lines started showing through on the top. Numerous applications of filler failed to stop them showing so I "built like a 12-year-old would" and shot over the body imperfections. I'll have to address why it's not sitting flat on the frame later. MPC 1969 Pontiac Bonneville Hardtop Resin rally wheels and aftermarket gauge decals. Painted Tamiya Mica Red over some bad Testors' Inca Gold. Original undercoat was Tamiya TS-21 gold but it fish eyed really bad so after sanding that down I shot it with the Inca gold which really came out bad. No time to strip and repaint so "doing like a 12-year-old" would do, I shot the red over it. Actually it looks kind of like a car with the paint fading and the clear coat coming off in some shots, so I could say I was building a replica ? Here are some group shots of them. Engines Interiors - The whiter interior is the hardtops. thanks for looking all comments welcomed.
  12. Not a deal breaker by any means, but it is interesting that Round2 went to the trouble of molding a new engine/transmission and air cleaner but forgot to give us a 4-barrel carb!
  13. At the Art Center here in Aberdeen SD they have an "Open Art Session" every Thursday between 10am and 12pm. My wife and I go there, she usually works on her book while I prep models. Today I took in the 64 Cutlass 442 and the Bonneville kits. I moved the front axle holes forward on the Olds so the wheels look better balance in the wells. Then I started to work on the Pontiac. I had already started to narrow the rear for some big tires at home, so I thought I'd work on the engine. You can guess what I came up with. Yeah, I'm going to have to cut out the hood on the Bonnie! Here it is mocked up with the wide tires on the rear and the set of wheels from an AMT 66 Nova pro-street kit. Not sure if they will be the ones I use or not. I "narrowed" the rear the old-fashioned way. I removed the wheel wells and sanded down where the axles go through until I had enough clearance. I also thinned the fenders on the body as well. I'm using the backing plates for the slicks from the AMT 50 Ford convertible to mount them with a custom-made metal axle. Front tires are the BF Goodrich tires from the kit. I'll remove badges and door handles on the side and probably paint the lower finned panels grey. I'll get some card stock to remake the rear wheel wells so the inner body don't show. So, what do ya think? Is the world ready for a blown, tubbed 65 Bonneville? Thanks for looking, all comments welcomed.
  14. To really break peoples budget, kit up a 65 Monaco Then use the underpinnings to do a 65 Plymouth Fury III. Nobody will have any money except you!
  15. This fills a hole in the model world as I'm sure this will be much more detailed than the snapper 65 originally by polar lights.
  16. I can look in my crystal ball and see a stock 327 powered 1965 Nova SS coming along. After of course they sell me the 65 Nova 100 gasser ?
  17. Wait a second, how about some flames! Flames are from the latest release of the Amt 55 sedan kit.
  18. Small update - I have the tires and wheels glued onto the brake drums now. I usually paint the spokes on the American S200 wheels' aluminum, but I also know they were available polished, so I elected to keep them that way on this build. The reason why I had to change out the hood scoop, close but I got the clearance I need since the hood sits level. Thanks for looking, all comments welcomed.
  19. I can't seem to leave well enough alone, here is the final paint job on the Impala SS. Today I shot multiple coats of Tamiya TS-45 pearl white over the Testors' White lighting then re-cleared it with wet look clear. This is more of the shade of white I was looking for. The other color looked too much like silver to me. Finishing touches on this may be a slight polish. I changed the hood scoop to one from the AMT 58 Impala kit as I also changed the air cleaner to a set of velocity stacks from the AMT 62 Bel Air kit. Interior will be flat white seats and door panels while I am still undecided as to what the carpet and dash will be. I know it will not be red or blue. Maybe a green? I'm also undecided on whether or not to put the stock shifter and console in it. I might go with a T handle shifter with a square mounting plate on the floor. Something like what you would see in a street machine instead of the stock set up. Thanks for looking all comments welcomed.
  20. When working with the Tamiya Pearl white and Testors' white lightening colors I find they tend to be a bit opaque, meaning the color under the paint will show through without a lot of coats. I've also found out that a coat of clear under the pearl paint will give it more of a shine. Now this could just be me and my eyes. I will say the TS-45 Pearl White really needs to be shot over white plastic or a white undercoat for it to work. Afterwards some coats of Tamiya's pearl clear will help it to look much better.
  21. White lighting is a Testors' one coat lacquer paint that looks like the Tamiya pearl white.
  22. Yes indeed, I got me one of them I built a while ago.
  23. I'm not sure if I like it or not, but I'm staying with it. Undercoated with Tamiya bright aluminum then shot with about three coats of Tamiya ATS-45 pearl white. I finished the job by shooting six or seven coats of Testors white lightening then wet look clear. What do you all think, does it work? Thanks for looking all comments welcomed.
  24. I started this one way back in 2015. I really did not know what I wanted to do with it except I knew I wanted to use the custom valve covers, air cleaner, and exhaust manifolds on it, but I was not happy with the big tire/wheel combo it came with. I shot the frame, semi built the engine, then back in the box it went until today. While separating parts for the other 62 Impala/Bel Air kits I have going I decided to play around with this. I found out I lost or misplaced the oil pan, so I decided to use one from the AMT 64 Impala. I elected for the finned chrome plated one. After putting it on I found out the hood interfered with the air cleaner. So, I had a choice, either cut down the chrome pan to get hood clearance or cut out the hood. I elected to cut the hood. The hood scoop is sourced from one of my many AMT 63 Impala kits and looks pretty good on it. I decided to use the American Racing S200 wheels from the AMT Impala kit as well. Of course, you need some wide tires on the back of a street machine, so I found a set of the NASCAR tires for the back. Once I glue the wheels to the backing, they will fit pretty good. Not sure about exhaust pipe clearance but a good set of side pipes might just fix that. By all indications this will be built in the 70's style. Don't know what color it will be I'll let you all know when I shoot it ? I have an AMT 62 Impala convertible I'll be painting yellow, and I have a resin 62 Biscayne coming from MCW to round out my 62 big chevies. Thanks for looking, all comments welcomed.
  25. I try to do the stock wheels and hubcaps to represent the real ones, I think it makes the model look more realistic.
