I've never liked the roof on that kit, either. Pretty much nobody has ever gotten that roof right, not AMT, not Hasegawa, not Revell. From what I've seen, AMT did tweak that roof a bit for 1966 and the '66 Impala and Wildcat tops are the least wrong ones, IMHO. I've never seen the MPC '66 Bonneville HT kit (though I have a convertible), so can't comment on that one. sadly.

It's basically the 1965 Bonneville annual kit, same as it ever was, except for the "new" nameplates and trim.

Looks great! I have that kit on my to-buy list but have never run across one, but will if I do. I've built several other of the Revell snappers in this series and have enjoyed them very much. Well done and model on!

You gonna shorten it to correct, or just live with it? Personally, I think if and when I ever get around to building mine, I'll just live with it. I never noticed the difference in length between Bonnies and Catalinas back in the day, when I'd see several '65-'66s in 3D every day, and also saw a lot of pictures of them. I never knew about the length difference until fairly recently--last decade or two.

Just finished American Assassin. Started out kinda okay, but the farther it went, the sillier it got. Michael Keaton was cool, but I think I'll pass on any sequels. Just discovered they have Breaking Bad, so maybe I'll get back into that. That'll eat up a few hours.

Interesting build, but he didn't "full detail" it, it's still curbside with the one-piece chassis. And I wonder why he ground the rear bumper mounts off the body. They're on the real car; you can clearly see them on road racing Vettes with the bumpers removed. (I'm actually trying to add them to an AMT body.) Good suggestion, and it comes with a SBC, though you'd probably have to replace most of its accessories and brightbits to retrodate it to a '63 engine.

Baby Face Nelson wasn't killed at Little Bohemia, either. Both of them were killed AFTER Dillinger.

Yup, I used to tune them in late at night, along with WLS. First time I ever heard the now-famous "SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY!" funny car/drag race commercials. Good times!

Very interesting. What got me into it was I just finished rereading G-Man, Stephen Hunter's entirely fictional account of the Dillinger thing as told mainly through Baby Face Nelson. Even though it was entirely fiction, there was more fact in it than in Public Enemies. (The main character, Charles Swagger, is completely fictitious but is insert into and removed from the historical record absolutely seamlessly.) I recommend it highly. In fact, I recommend all of Hunter's Bob Lee Swagger books highly. Best thrillers I've ever read.

Lotta interesting ideas here, keep 'em coming! I finished Public Enemies (not that great) and am now halfway through American Assassin. Heard a lot about that Tiger King thing, maybe I'll watch that.

Original 1/25 AMT Cobra - A Retrospective

What was the point or goal of that roof? -
The body's more accurate. I haven't compared the interiors but wouldn't be surprised if the Rev snapper's better. You'll have to cut out the hood, of course. I wouldn't recommend the MPC chassis. The tooling dates back to 1964, and it might have been state of the art then, but that was a long time ago, and the molds aren't in great shape anymore. A great full-detail chassis can be found in Revell's '67 Corvette kits, coupe or roadster. BUT these kits come with a big block engine, which of course wasn't available until 1965, so you'll have to swap in a small-block from somewhere. There will now follow several different opinions on which would be the best small-block Chev engine for a '63 Corvette. HIT IT, fellas!

Double Survivor Resto/Rescue: Two AMT Annual '66 Mustang Fastbacks

Thanks! Can't wait to see your work! Drive on! Thanks so much! Thanks for your kind words! Thanks so much! You really get me! But I also get what you do. I like that kind of thing too. Someday soon I'm hoping to build a series of about a dozen old Aurora, Hawk, Lindberg, and Revell airplane kits as gear-up "desk models" and display them all together. I really need to get on with that. One of the first will be the ancient Aurora P-51H. -
Good one for this particular day:

What Did You Get Today? (Not Model Related)
Snake45 replied to LOBBS's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Yup. And this is not a partisan comment, because I've heard people from all political views say basically the same thing, but I put it this way AFAIK first: "Everybody wants to make UAW wages for what they produce, but pay Walmart prices for everything else they consume. That can't go on forever." Chickens always come home to roost. -

Ain't First World Problems great? -
The Lovely Mrs. Snake recently got a Netflix machine and subscription, and is graciously sharing it with me. I thought this would be great, but I am having a hard time finding good stuff to watch. Almost any movie title I put in isn't available. So far I've watched the most recent comedy concerts of Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, and Ricky Gervais (all were funny), and both seasons of Gervais's different and interesting Afterlife. I saw Terminator Salvation, and Bird Box, and The Highwaymen, and now I'm about halfway through Public Enemies. Last month I found Tremors on there, which I've never seen but heard good things about and wanted to watch, but when I got around to it, it was gone! Turns out they only had the Tremors movies (five or six of them) for the month of June, and I waited too long, dimmit. So what else on there is worth watching? Will consider almost anything interesting that I haven't already seen before.

Atlantis Models has bought another lot of tooling/molds.....
Snake45 replied to Dave Van's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
We could be friends. I prefer 1/48, but also do 1/72. Among my to-do projects is the FG-1 Corsair that Goodyear put a Tempest bubbletop on, and then I might do a phantom bubbletop version of the F4U-4 out of a horrible Korean kit that's otherwise worthless. Love the bubbletop Spits too, my favorite is the 22/24 but I also dig the XIV, XIV, Seafire XVII, and XVIII. -
Both VERY cool, but very limited production and not that well known. But neither is beyond the conversion reach of experienced modelers such as you and me. If you want it, DO it!

They also sold the ROCO HO scale Minitanks. I must have had three of four dozen on those things back in the day! Prices started at 25c and the more expensive ones ran up to a buck. Many of them are still available, but the prices are MUCH higher. -

My built P.38 model came in a box exactly like that one (I still have it) in 1972. It cost $4.95 at a LHS, which was a VERY high kit price at that time (about like two, maybe 2.5 model cars). I found my LS at a yard sale about a decade ago, paid $25 for it and glad to get it, and I wish I'd bought the Luger the guy had too but it was gone by the time I came back for it. I looked for LS stuff on eBay this morning. Not much selection and OMG what prices!
