  1. This is the AMT 2016 Camaro snapper, molded in “pearl red,” actually sort of a rose color, especially compared to the red prepainted Revell 2013 I built. I scribed out all the panel lines, removed all the molding lines, polished the plastic with TRIM nail sticks and some Wright's Silver Cream, and did the normal detail painting. Tires were sanded and wheels were hit with Krylon Matte spray. Parts fit on this one is tight—I had to enlarge some of the mounting holes a little. But the worst was the windows. They were SO tight it took me about a dozen tries before I finally got them to snap into place. I was just about to saw off the side windows when they finally fit on my last try. I should have hit the lower edge of the side windows with black paint or Sharpie to kill the “fiber optic” glare, but there is NO WAY I am taking that window back out to do it. I might never get it back in again! Otherwise, this was a pretty straightforward and enjoyable (more or less) build.
  2. We know the world is round because if it were flat, cats would have knocked everything off the edge by now.
  3. I put an MPC '66 Vette body on an AMT '63 chassis with no issues at all, so I don't see any reason why any of the MPC '64-'82 chassis wouldn't work under an AMT body. The MPC chassis are quite fiddly, though, and the tooling has been VERY worn for YEARS. Whole lotta flash and mold alignment cleanup to take care of. But if you enjoy this kind of work, knock yourself out! If you want to build an accurate, nice '63, though, you'd be better off starting with the body of Revell's snapper.
  4. They really are. With the burden of "perfection" lifted, you can really have FUN with a model again, the way you did when you were a kid.
  5. Water burnout only.
  6. The COPO 9562 Chevelles (which is what the Yenkos were) seem to have come through with Rallys standard. And Yenko replaced those on many with the Atlas mags (as seen in the Revell Yenko Camaro kit). So, no dog dishes, please.
  7. Looking good! Is that black primer on it? If so, just drive on with that and GITTER DONE!
  8. Oh MY! I might have to get one of those for my Polished Plastic collection. Is that green a little metallic/metalflaky too? If so, I DEFINITELY need one!
  9. I'll bet it would never occur to you to go about it like this. The end result is absolutely astonishing.
  10. You can't build an accurate Villa Riviera from the kit without a lot of extra modifications, but you can get close-ish, and it looks like all those parts are included.
  11. Very nice! Is the engine from the AMT '63 Corvette?
  12. Very nice! Where did you get the engine-turned vinyl?
  13. Okay, these pics show where the real problem with the Revellogram bodies is. look at the character line running down the side of the body. Notice that when it gets to the cap, it turns around the front of the car, still more or less level, perhaps going up a LITTLE to meet the top of the grille. Now look at the Mono bodies. That line now makes a very apparent upward angle to meet the top of a grille that might be too tall. This would mean that the front of the hood and front of the fender caps are too high. Hmmmmmm....
  14. Looking VERY good! Drive on!
  15. Santa brought me nothing model-ish, so I didn't feel the least bit bad about receiving my new Revell '68 Chevelle and '69 Boss 302 kits (and about $40 worth of Model Master paints that Hobby Lobby doesn't carry) on Christmas Eve. Neener neener, you fat, bearded, over-rated reindeer jockey!
  16. Hey Bill (Mr. O), your comment on my '68 Elky Glue Bomb Rescue gave me this idea: When you get around to building this '68 Chevelle, why don't you drag out your AMT '68 Elky kit and build it at the same time? Both seem to be first rate kits, and both have separate frames. Doing a build like this in tandem, you can do a lot of painting at the same time (like chassis parts, engines, etc.) so it doesn't take you 2X as long to build two complete models, more like 1.5X. And at the end you'll have a better idea of which kit is better in each area. I did a dual build like this back when both AMT and Revell dropped their '67 Chevelles at the same time, and it was a LOT of fun.
  17. That looks exactly like my old high school/college buddy Dwayne's Mach I, except his was a 428 with the shaker hood. I don't remember what color his interior was, possibly it was black but it might have been red. He had big tires on Cragars on the rear.
  18. It definitely does in certain areas. In others, not so much....
  19. Shape looks okay, but goshdarnit, it looks like they molded it upside down!
  20. Thanks! Great compliment coming from you. I think you'll like this kit. Even just working on a glue bomb, I could tell it's a pretty nice kit, right up there with the '70 Monte Carlo. In other words, one of AMT's very best, and right up there with the very very best of Revell. Someday I'll build another one from a new kit, but till then, this one holds down that spot on the shelf with pride.
  21. Great catch! I'll have to take a look at that. Seems to be something I could add easily. Just glad no one one gigged me on the missing mirrors. They didn't come with it, and I don't have any spares, and didn't feel like scratchbuilding them....
  22. I just rediscovered one of those in the Snakepit stash, apparently bought decades ago. Having just finished an AMC beetle (after nearly 50 years!), I'm kinda in the mood to build it. And if it's molded in pink, so much the better--I really enjoy polishing plastic, and I don't have a pink car in my collection.
  23. True. He was a "party member" but basically what would be called today a NINO.
  24. Wow, that DOES look good!
  25. Hit your side marker lights with a drop of red and amber.
