Not even close to accurate, but there's no denying that it looks great anyway. (I've considering just doing the same thing for the Nicholson car.) Well done and model on!

Very nice! Well up to your usual standards of excellence. Well done and model on!

Straight onto the bench from the mailbox! 1968 Chevelle!
Snake45 replied to Superbird McMonte's topic in WIP: Model Cars
It looks like the second set of wheels might be Magnum 500s, which would be correct for a '69 SS.- 32 replies

Another wildly productive year: 2018 completions

Maybe 2019 will be the year you finally finish something. I'll keep my eye out for flying pigs. -
What non-auto model did you get today?

Well, THAT didn't take long. Price seems good, too! I'll let you contact him directly: https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/hyperscale/viewtopic.php?f=409167&t=501048&p=2624174#p2624174 -
Revell 1968 Chevy Chevelle SS 396...........My take

Well, you'd think...but then, why did they do the rear quarter caps as separate pieces? -
Revell 1968 Chevy Chevelle SS 396...........My take
Snake45 replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Yes, but if I'm not mistaken, the Camaro and Nova kits all share the same body shell. That won't work here, unless they're planning to give you instructions to remove that chrome strip and the vent windows, which I suppose is a possibility.... -
1968 RKE/JRT SCCA Trans Am Javelin
Snake45 replied to swede70's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
VERY cool build! I'll be watching it. Some years ago I came into a mint, unbuilt AMT '71 Javelin kit which includes all the TA goodies. A couple years ago I bought a restorable glue bomb JoHan '70 Javelin on eBay. Then I bought a resin '70 Javelin body on eBay, which turns out to be a TA race Javelin with the bulged fenders (I think it might be from Jimmy Flintstone). (Later I bought '70 Javelin bumpers/grilles from Modelhaus.) I'm hoping that between those three things, I'll be able to get one factory stock '70 Javelin and one full-race TA '70 Javelin. Will have to do a full inventory to see what I have and what I'd need. -

I just posted a want ad on HyperScale for your 180 floatplane. We'll see if anything shakes out. -
Revell 1968 Chevy Chevelle SS 396...........My take
Snake45 replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
You beat me to it, with good info! They could do a '69 Malibu using this body, but they'd have to replace the BBC engine with a small block. I suppose that's doable. Would also need a flat hood. (Probably new interior patterns, too.) I have a feeling that the next variation we'll see will be a '69 SS convertible. Why? It's just a feeling, based on the natural cussedness of the Universe. Come to think of it, I might actually buy a '69 SS convertible just for the grille to convert the AMT '68 El Camino to a '69. (The '68 Elky is wider than the AMT '69 HT, so it looks like the Revell grille might be a drop-in fit.) Hmmmmmm.... -
I don't think so. If I were building that model and wanted to match that light pink pearl paint, I'd head for the beauty supply place in town. I'll bet they have a nail polish that EXACT color.

Revell 1969 Mustang Boss 302............My take with pics!
Snake45 replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
'69 Boss 302s were only built in Bright Yellow, Calypso Coral (orange), Acapulco Blue, and Wimbledon White, and I think they all had black stripes. No black cars from the factory. -
Revell 1969 Mustang Boss 302............My take with pics!
Snake45 replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Oh yes, MUCH improved. I can see it from here! I've always wanted to do Mickey Thompson's '69 Boss 429 Pro Stock. Even started one back in the day, now long gone. Started another one when the Revell '69 Mach I came out, then gave up on it when I discovered I couldn't live with the nose shape. Maybe THIS time around I can get it done! -

Snake45 replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Yes, but I believe the same masters were used to develop both the 1/24 and 1/25 series. Although different sizes, the parts similarities are apparent. The Revell '69 Shelby appeared years before the '69 Mach I. -
Revell 1968 Chevy Chevelle SS 396...........My take
Snake45 replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Looks like they got the wheel openings darn close to right, too, for a change. If the window opening shape isn't perfect, it's HELLA closer than the old Testor 1/24 diecast, and at least one or two "nice" diecasts I can name. -
Revell 1968 Chevy Chevelle SS 396...........My take
Snake45 replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I kinda thought so, too, and maybe even the shape of the rear roofline, but the Revell is darn close, and it's not a deal-killer for me. Maybe when I get mine I can take pics of both bodies together. That rear axle w/springs is a new one on me. Might make for some interesting mold cleanup. Looks to be easy assembly, but maybe not so easy to alter the ride height. Am I the first person to realize that this kit now makes the Revell Snapper '70 a full-detail kit? All you have to do is cut the hood out. Who'll be the first to do it? -
Revell 1969 Mustang Boss 302............My take with pics!
Snake45 replied to MrObsessive's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Thanks for the great pics! It looks better, but I can't really tell without the grille being in place. Did you happen to see if the new nose piece fits on the old Mach I body? I'm more interested in building a Mach I than a Boss anyway. That's one of the first things I'll be trying when I get mine. And I'll try to get pics of the new front end with an original AMT annual, which was just about perfect. -
Harder than it looks. I once built a model of the '69 PMOY Shelby 500 and had to paint it three times, and I still didn't get exactly the shade I was going for. Got tired of messing with it and just drove on and finished it up anyway.

Straight onto the bench from the mailbox! 1968 Chevelle!
Snake45 replied to Superbird McMonte's topic in WIP: Model Cars
First thing I noticed, too. But a lot will depend on how they handle the lower body trim strip. I can't tell from the photos but I don't see separate strips on the chrome tree. I guess they could do a trim-stripped body as a '69 Malibu (non-SS). I see they have the vent window frames molded to the body, not separate pieces. (The '69 didn't have vents.)- 32 replies

Not at my joint. It's VERY small. They close up shop and lock the doors at 4:30 weekdays and Noon on Saturday. I've seen them go. The lobby remains open so you can still get to your PO box, but that's it. I guess I can live till Wednesday. I'll try, anyway. Hey, I never thought we'd see this kit (or the Boss 302 Mustang) until mid-February anyway--if EVER!
