  1. For built models-- Newer, common boxes get trashed, especially if I have multiples of that kit. Older, cooler ones are used for storage--2 built models to a box, or parts.
  2. Tolja so.
  3. I know it, but if I type the title, that stupid song will be stuck in my head ALL DAY! NOT gon' dewit!
  4. Is that Patches? If so, again I don't remember the artist.
  5. The vast majority of mine are being used to store completely unbuilt, unstarted kits. The ones that came in them. True story.
  6. I think this is similar to Rub-N-Buff, which modelers have been using with various and mixed results for more than 40 years.
  7. That sounds right. It might have floated to the top of my gray matter eventually. Was he a one-hit wonder? I can't think of anything else by him.
  8. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=93082&page=94
  9. Take a Letter, Maria, but I forget who sang it.
  10. I got the band but not the title. I think I said it was Questions 67 and 68 and you corrected me, which is how I know it now.
  11. Chicago--and you told me way back when that the name of the song was Dialog.
  12. Comet and Cyclone were kind of like Chevelle and Malibu, or Tempest and Lemans or GTO, or Belvedere and Satellite, and so forth: Just names for different trim levels on the same basic car.
  13. I'd like to see the '64 Olds roadster too. You could graft on the top from a common Revell '65 Chevelle and do a more normal Olds funny. I've got ref photos in an old magazine of a topless '65 Chevelle funny, so I could do that from the leftovers.
  14. At this point I usually have a pretty good idea of what the kit itself looks like, so I don't need a photo of the built model on the box. About all that tells me is what wheels and tires are in this particular issue. (And sometimes even that isn't accurate.) I really enjoy good "art" of the subject. Some of those old boxes from the '60s were absolutely beautiful, and still are.
  15. 1. '67 Corvette roadster w/hard top, Marina Blue. 2. '68 Camaro SS/RS, Corvette Bronze. 3. '66 Mustang fastback with Shelby body mods, Ivy Green or Highland Green. 4. '55 Chevy 2D sedan, 2LB-"ish". 5. '73 Corvette, orange. 6. '67 El Camino, Marina Blue. 7. '66 Nova. 8. '64 or '64 Buick Skylark GS. 9. Some kind of Mopar--'70 Cuda 340 or '69 Road Runner 440+6. 10. (Changeable): '65-'69 Corvair with Chev V8 in the back seat. Or maybe a '62 Corvette in Honduras Maroon.
  16. As I suspected, much discussion ensued at Hyperscale. Someone posted a lot of good pics. If you haven't checked my link above today, check it again.
  17. I love the idea of doing a build around leftover and unused and otherwise unloved parts. I have a couple such project ideas in mind myself. One is, I have an oddball original AMT '68 Corvette body (and interior, but NOTHING else) and am trying to plan some sort of project around that.
  18. You could have asked here and anyone who's built or even seen that kit in, what, the last 40 years could have told about the hideously undersized headlights and the one-piece chassis...and all the rest of it....
  19. First, thanks for the added pics of the sedan. That's a very cool looking car! Now, about your auto trans conversion kit. Is that everything I'd need to put on the Parts Pack Corvair engine and then drop the whole thing as a unit into a model? I have at least one idea for a Corvair-powered but non-Corvair model, and need an extra transaxle or two to pull them off. Auto trans is okay for my purposes, I just need something between the engine and the rear axles.
  20. I've seen many, many outstanding black paint jobs accomplished with Model Master Classic Black right out of the rattlecan. There seems to be something almost magic about that paint. I usually airbrush but I was so impressed with what others were doing with it that I tried it once. The only downside seemed to be that it takes a LONG time to dry/cure hard enough to not pick up fingerprints. Weeks, maybe. Nowadays I just airbrush the MM Classic Black from the bottle, and polish it out for a good shine.
  21. You don't want zinc chromate, you want Interior Green FS 34151. Model Master "Zinc Chromate Green" is MUCH too bright for an interior color. I'm not sure about the gear wells on an AVG P-40B. They might be silver, or ZC yellow, or interior green, or possibly even the underside gray. I'll ask at Hyperscale and see what the experts say. ETA: I posted the question. You can check for yourself the answers. I expect that "debate will ensue." http://www.network54.com/Forum/149674/thread/1420992290/AVG+P-40+Gearwell+Color-
  22. And Pete scores on his very first post! Well played!
  23. Even as I type, I'm listening on the radio to a weird mashup of the old Jackson 5 I Want You Back and Taylor Swift's We Are Never Getting Back Together. Imaginative and a little strange.
  24. Yes, I am. If you want Bel Air trim, just take it from the old '56 kit. It was all separate pieces and you could do it any way you wanted--150, 210/Del Ray, or Bel Air.
  25. They've been doing that for instrument panels on model airplanes for decades.
