  1. Here's another Hobbycraft Sea Fury I finished up a couple years ago. Australian Navy in an attractive dark blue scheme. I custom-mixed the paint to match photos but to tell the truth I don't remember what I used. But it's not clearcoated nor polished.
  2. The new issue of Hot Rod has a little blurb plugging hotrod.com and saying it now features stories from the editors of "Hot Rod, Car Craft, Hot Rod Deluxe, Street Rodder, MuscleCar Review, Mopar Muscle," and a couple more. No mention of Elapsed Times or Overkill. I wonder if that means anything?
  3. Very, very nice! You are inspiring me to build one of these things.
  4. Nice clean build of that kit, which has a tendency to come out looking a bit toylike. You did a nice job with it.
  5. Very cool! I like it.
  6. Mama Told Me Not to Come--Three Dog Night. Didn't Randy Newman write it? (Sure sounds like one of his lyrics.) If he didn't, Paul Williams prolly did.
  7. Mr. Bojangles?
  8. That's a common enough kit, reissued many times and I'm sure it will come around again. Unless of course you just MUST have the original box. I think the original instructions are online. If they're not, I'm pretty sure I still have them.
  9. Very interesting and well done effect!
  10. I looked, but couldn't find them, just particular pages here and there. Is there an online site for vintage (1960s) NHRA and AHRA rulebooks? If there's not and someone would like to start a project, I have the '71 NHRA book that I'd be happy to scan and contribute.
  11. Different, interesting, and well done, therefore cool! Model on!
  12. Almost any of the original AMT annual kits from 1965 to '69, especially the '66s and '67s, in their original boxes. I've managed to acquire several of them in the last few years. My favorites are prolly '66 Skylark, '66 Barracuda, '66 Mustang HT/Convertible, and '66 Corvette roadster. AMT '65 Chevelle, either original annual or the AWB funnycar. JoHan '68 Javelin with the Logghe-chassis funnycar option. Also, any other '68-'70 Javelin, or the AMT AMX with the funnycar option. MPC '33 Chevy Sedan Delivery. MPC '66 and '67 Bonneville hardtops. I'm sure I'll think of others but the above is a good "core" list.
  13. If you can paint 'em white, I don't see why you couldn't paint (or powder-coat) 'em black. New performance with old-school looks and attitude. This is definitely my New Favorite Idea of the Day!
  14. Some of the mid/late '60s AMT cars had these molded in styrene. It's possible these are being reproed by someone.
  15. The Modelhaus repro of the original AMT annual '67 SS/RS is almost a direct drop-in--only very slight fitting will be required. That's what I'm going to use on mine. It's also WAY more accurate than the Revell kit grille in shape.
  16. The RN Sea Furies and Fireflies operated during the Korean War carried a variation of these stripes, too. I've seen these narrow black/white stripes on Griffon Spitfires but I'd have to hit my library to tell you where and when they were used. But as you say, they're definitely not "D-Day invasion stripes."
  17. Well, there were the Monkees, who were created for TV. Mike Nesmith went on to gain some respect musically. Rick Springfield was a soap opera star, wasn't he? David Soul of Starsky & Hutch (and the movie Magnum Force) had one minor top-40 hit for a while. (It was horrifying.) Eddie Murphy had one hit, but I think that was mostly the doing of his buddy Rick James. Jennifer Lopez got her start as a "Fly Girl" dancer on the old comedy show In Living Color. And didn't Britney Spears get her start as a child actress on some TV show? She's had a pretty good run at a musical career.
  18. I know. I've been screwing with one off and on since the '70s and still can't get it to suit me. I'm gonna give up and cut off the front and rear ends and graft them onto a Revell '67 body. Although they're supposedly different scales, they're remarkably close in actual size.
  19. All true, and this statement could lead to an interesting discussion on the definition of the words "worth" and "value." I'll start: Any given item is worth exactly what someone will pay for it at any given time.
  20. The new Hot Rod Deluxe should be out at the end of the month. (It comes out the last week of odd-numbered months.)
  21. I got one together when I was about 14. Back in the '90s I bought two "new" ones and both had warped bodies. I called Revell and they sent me two equally warped, unbuildable ones. Shortly thereafter at a swap meet I bought a glue bomb from the '60s--the body is buildably straight and I can get everything else I need from the two '90s kits. Meanwhile, not long ago I blew apart my ancient build '56, cleaned a few things up, touched up some paint, and put it back together. It is what it is--a relic of my youth.
  22. Couple years ago I picked up this "West Coast Choppers" diecast 1/25 '57 Chev 2-door wagon at Walmart. Shape is very nice. I'm going to be de-Westcoating it and turning it into something cool.
  23. That's not an easy kit to build and you've done a fine job with it. Model on!
  24. The pic is so dark that I can see virtually nothing, but that description sounds like Sipowicz on NYPD Blue, an excellent program.
  25. Found some pics of '67 Camaros in the light turquoise. I'd thought that black was the default stripe color for this paint, but there are several here with white stripes too: http://www.69pace.com/paint1967emeraldturquoise.htm
