RC2 AMT/Ertl Winged Express Fuel Altered - Buyer's Choice
Snake45 replied to Junkman's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Yeah, but the Wild Willy Chassis is one, maybe two or three generations down the line from the one under the Psycho. I think I have an old R&C magazine that has a feature on the original Fiat Altered that the Psycho was based on. I'll see if I can find it if you're interested. -
Paint mixing color sheet
Snake45 replied to aurfalien's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'd never trust any formula by weight (or volume) on Testor/Model Master paints because some of them are quite thick, others are almost airbrush-ready right in the bottle, and I've seen both types on the same color. The thinner stuff would obviously need more to have the same effect mixing with a thicker paint. Tell me what colors to mix, and approximate ratios, and I'll take it from there and do it by eye. And then there's the whole "scale effect" thing that they like to argue in Model Airplane World, but I'll leave that for another thread.... -
RC2 AMT/Ertl Winged Express Fuel Altered - Buyer's Choice

There are some other accuracy problems with that kit if you want to do a true model of the (second) M&B car. I forget exactly what they are at the moment but I do recall making some mental notes about some things that will have to be fixed. -
Paint mixing color sheet

The problem is that it's almost impossible to match colors to a computer screen--paint, photos, whatever. Has something to do with the screen is producing the light, whereas the light is just reflected from a paint chip or photo. Try hold a paint chip or whatever up to your computer screen sometime and see if you can match it--you'll see what I mean. -
Paint mixing color sheet
Snake45 replied to aurfalien's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I know airplane modelers who have their own formulas for military colors, using Model Master, or Tamiya, or whatever, paints. Never heard of anyone doing it for car colors, though. I can usually find something close in Model Master or Testor colors, and in other cases I can mix what I need by eye. -
Revell Ed Roth 57 Bel Air - Suddenly It's 1963!
Snake45 replied to Karl LaFong's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Agree completely. In many cases I like the snappers MORE than the "full detail" kits. -
This so-called "funnycar" arrangement wasn't unique to the MPC '67 Charger. I think they had similar build options in the '66 and/or '67 GTOs, and the '66 and or '67 Bonnevilles. But then back in the day, modelers were kitbashing their own funny cars in very similar ways (before dedicated funny kits became available). Take a look at the first two Car Model magazine funny car contests (and some of their build articles) and you'll see quite a few very similar things. I believe Tim Boyd will back me up on this--he was there "back in the day," too, and remembers those contests and stories well. BTW, I had that '67 Charger kit back in the day (long gone). It was almost identical to the '66 kit except for the upholstery pattern and the clear hood option (and possibly the injectors--I'd have to doublecheck that). Another BTW, that kit is now completely obsolete due to the excellent Revell kit. But if you just must build an MPC '67 Charger for some reason, it was reissued many times and you can find those repops cheap these days if you look a little.

Very nice--I like this a lot! I've got a nice resin repro of this body I've been wanting to get to and your build is very inspirational. Thanks for sharing it with us--well done and model on!

Very, very nice. I absolutely love "rescue" builds and you did a fine, fine job with this one. Well done and model on!
-
That looks fabulous! There's a resin '67 Biscayne body available but I think yours has a MUCH more accurate roofline. Please keep us posted with your progress on this!

Oh I know this one--it's from the early '80s--but just can't think of it this early in the morning.

I have several of the MPC '57 Vette convertible uptops I'll never use. Shoot me an email if you need one at: SnakeACP45@aol.com If the AMT '62 came with convertible uptop, I'll have that too.

I can't, but I know somebody who can: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpJO_8Dp76w

No, but the price seems right for at least a test. Not long ago I bought a $12 flea market Chinese-made Badger 350 copy/clone/ripoff JUST for shooting Future and other clear coats and it works very well for that--well worth the price.

Vintage NHRA and AHRA Rulebooks Online?

Thanks so much VW93! That was EXACTLY what I was looking for! You are My New Favorite Person of the Day! -
Thanks for the kind words. You can see more pics of the restored orange one here, along with another orange one I just finished (after painting it 20 or more years ago): http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=93494

Not that much at current tax rates. And lawyers, as soon as they learn of you, will come after the rest (a JD degree is a license to hunt money). You probably couldn't afford to quit your day job.

I've had people approach me about building a model of their car, and they think if they buy the kit and kick me a $20 bill (or a fifty) when it's done, I'll be happy. I now tell them, "I could build a model of your car, but I'll have 40 hours of work in it, and if I want to work, I can get all the work I want at $XX per hour. I've got over 400 kits on my shelf that I WANT to build for ME, so if I'm building something for YOU, it's going to be WORK. If you're serious about it, we'll sit down and I'll work up an estimate." They usually leave me alone after that.

Hey, it ain't a Skyraider! The airplanes I modeled the blue one after must have been kept pretty clean (they were basically airshow machines, IIRC). I don't recall seeing any particular exhaust staining on the pics I researched. Come to think of it, I don't recall seeing all that much exhaust staining on ANY Sea Fury. Maybe the Centaurus was a clean-running engine.

I know it's not, but it COULD be a verse in Foreigner's Hot Blooded.

Sweet! Like you, I stalked these on eBay for years before I finally scored one. Mine's not quite as clean as yours but it's very rebuildable. Only area of concern on mine is the Bonneville emblem on the right quarter is VERY thin and might not survive a coat of paint. Only thing keeping me from getting into it is I can't decide on a cool color for it. Now that I've discovered that new Testor Teal metallic paint, I might be going with that. The front end of the '67 Pontiacs is so weird you just gotta love it. I always thought it looked like something Batman might drive if he was an insurance salesman.

Ohio, CSN&Y. If that's not the best protest song of all time, it's the second best--and Neil Young wrote the other one, too (Rockin' in the Free World). Can't stand his politics but gorram the man can write a catchy tune.

Never seen it put exactly like that, but it's kinda the styrene equivalent of "not worth the paper it's printed on," ain't it?
