I Got My First Builds As A Kid!!!
djway3474 replied to Mike's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If I had all my first builds I could have saved myself a literal fortune. I seem to be uncontrollable when it comes to replacing kits from my youth. I still have my old AFX HO slot cars which is amazing if you knew how many times I have moved in my life. Ah Memories LOL Dwayne -
Man I miss the 60's with all the tracks around, slot cars everywhere and modeling was great. Of course at that tender young age I could not build worth a darn but I had Soooo much fun. Dwayne

Jimmy Flintstone Resin 1972 Chevy El Camino
djway3474 replied to Marc @ MPC Motorsports's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Here is the Flinstone 72 built to replicate a friends car. I discovered after the build that there are no side markers on the 72 Here is a link to the build. http://public.fotki.com/djway3474/complete...s/72-el-camino/ There was a lot of grinding to get stuff to fit Here is another Flinstone 72 that I used a 70 grill on. -
1/16 Hemi Hydro
djway3474 replied to Smart-Resins's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
To answer your question I know of a lot of guys that build cars that also want to build the current top fuel hydro boats in 1/24 scale. Hemi Hydro in 1/16 would be a no go. People want to do their own thing and a lack of parts in that scale would be a definate drawback. The hemi hydro is not that popular of a kit. If your going to make the effort it would be best to go where the greatest interest is. -
There were some very high quality builds there today. A person for Model Car Mag was there shooting picts for the mag. He took picts of 5 of mine so hopefully I will get a few in the mag. I got a second in Street Maching for the Boss 302 that is yellow in the pictures. He did not shoot what I thought were my most interesting but heck I take gettin in the man any old way. Enjoy the pictures. http://public.fotki.com/djway3474/model-ca...s-classic-nov-/ Dwayne

That is wicked cool. I will take a set if you make them. Or I would take a copy of your scans and I will find a way. Question. Do you have your own Laser printer? If so what kind? How do they lay down? Thanks and great work. Dwayne

I think the main concern is oxyegon in the can. I have a can that I opened years ago and it is still ok but I used very little, so no air. I have heard that if you have some way to displace the oxy with another gas that it will stay fine indefinately. If you have a welder with a gas bottle I have heard that is the best bet as it is heavier than oxy and will displace it. Good luck.

Bad Chrome Bare Metal Foil?
djway3474 replied to matador88's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It is just a bad sheet. I have had several of those. I was only able to do very short pieces with them. I don't know why it occures but they do happen too often. Dwayne -
Here is a link to my collection of photographs of my builts, some projects, cycles, car shows and my hobby room. Also thumbnails of my decal collection on my computer. http://public.fotki.com/djway3474/ The photos are my first attempt to photograph model cars. I am haveing trouble with the white balance and i am looking for an affordable alternative for light. Have fun looking. Dwayne

Curious, is that art work done on the computer or airbrush? How long did it take you to get to this level? I have always wanted to draw and you guys that do this type of quality make me green with envy. Dwayne

any interest in a baja bug resin body
djway3474 replied to kod38's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Have you ever tried to do the SandWinder Baja kit. I think it was by far the best looking kit ever done The majority of baja bugs from the 70's on used that style. All the one piece front ends were sandwinder style and the street kits had a great motor cover. Dwayne -
If the carbon fiber is a fine enough version you can lay down several pieces and you cant even see the edges. I tried this expecting the worst and it wound up that I could not even see the seperate pieces.

Plastikote primer...
djway3474 replied to ismaelg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I miss the Plastikote too. I have been useing Duplicolor and hate it. It stays tacky for a long time and I have even had it react with itself. I had several kits that had been sitting for weeks that I sanded and applied another coat of Dupl on it. The paint wrinkled. I really hate the stuff. I think I may go to an automotive store and get primer sealer. -
First I will admit that I hate to paint. That is where I always have troubles. Probably why I have so many started cars. They are all sitting around waiting for paint. Anyway, I pulled out a brand new Pasche that I have had sitting around for a while. I tried to flow some paint and I got nothing. I thined it way beyond recommended and still nothing. I took a control valve out of the line and I started to get spray but it would not last long and I would have to release and start again to get paint. Sometimes even doing that would not work. So then I tried to run just thinner and it still had the problem. I have the large tip and needle in it. I tried to rotate the small knob in front of the trigger and that did not help either. I started to think that the testors compressor maybe did not have enough air flow so I got out my old badger and it sparyed just fine. Could it be that the pasche needs a much larger cfm than the badger? The gage on the moisture trap reads a high pressure but it does not seem like a lot of air flow to me yet the Badger works. Any Ideas would be of a help. Thanks Dwayne

In my opinion polishing can never match a good gloss coat. But that being said if the gloss is not perfectly smooth and has particulates however small you would then need to polish. I know some guys here in So Cal that won many paint awards that alway went for the perfect wet gloss coat. If your happy with the finish leave it.

Allison V-12 Powered Thunderbird reissued!
djway3474 replied to S. Svendsen's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Just a note about building this kit. I am currently restoring a glue bomb that cost me a lot more that the MK reissue will of course. The chassis is very crude and limited in how much you can get it to sit lower as it looks goofy stock. Also when you build the motor leave off the air scoop as you can't get the body to sit down. I think I also narrowed the rear end to get the slicks inside the body. Other than that it is pretty cool. I redid the decals so that the Allison Thunderland is in black like the box art. Now that the reissue is coming out I can do both versions. I may even try a funny car chassis with the Allison just for kicks. -
My Model Club was invited to have a small display at the cruise. It was the opening day for the Barris collection so there was some fantastic machinery that showed up. I have included a link that shows the cars, the museum and a few of our models on display. I hope you enjoy. http://public.fotki.com/djway3474/therealt...museum-twighli/
