Hi guys, Just a reminder that this great contest is coming soon. We had a bit of a snaffu with the web site. Without warning, AOL removed all of their free web sites. No warning, no offer to let one pay, nothing. We have scrambled and got a new site going for now but all of our old fliers have bad information. Here is a new flier and a new web link. Vendor tables are running out and the price goes up Jan 1st. Hope to see you there! Hosted on Fotki link to new web site http://citrusnationalspage1.handzonsitemaker.com/

Anybody know who built this truck?
djway3474 replied to Hillbilly Deluxe's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
His name is Chris Knox. He is a very prolific builder and pumps out new builds like a factory. And all of his stuff is as good as that if not better. -
Doooooh! Red glass would look good here too.

Built the kit with parts box rear tires and wheels and headers and intake scoop and front tires. Tamiya clear red with urethane clear and Slixx decals. The only real bad thing about the kit is that the tabs onto the windows went way up so you can see them clearly after assembly and there was no way to get rid of the marks. Also the flip nose does not reach all the way to the body. Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Link to the build http://public.fotki.com/djway3474/complete...1320/33-willys/

I don't remeber which lindberg kit it was but it was a fairly recent release with a photo of the model on the front. I attached the front axle to the frame by drilling holes into both parts and using brass rod as a connector to I got it down as far as I could.
-
This thing was horrible. I had to repair the chassis and I had to scrounge a lot of parts from a Lindberg kit that looked very similar to the origional parts. The entire motor and front suspension were scavanged and many chormed parts are now Alclad. Latest Issue #134
djway3474 replied to george 53's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I agree this is a great issue. It also seemed to me that the quality of the pictures was up and they were much brighter than usual. Overall fantastic. -
I bought this major glue bomb a long time ago just for the cool box art. I already had one Lil Gasser built up so I went for something different on the rebuild. I dropped the second rear axle and lowered the suspension all around quite a bit. I chopped the roof on the cab and also lowered the tank. I tried for a color that was reminiscent of the color of the whiskey. I found some logos on the net and sized them to fit the tank and cab. Rolled this car off the assembly line this week. What a piece of junk this kit is. I bought a bunch of the 57 Vette flip nose kits for the wheels on the cover. The wheels were not in the box and I was quite upset. Also the quality of the kit is just junk. The mounting tabs are often as large as the part. Very poor fit throughout. After 4 hours of trying I gave up on the flip nose. If I were to do it again I would scratch build the flip mounts. I made these decals long ago and I did the lettering in gold foil. I found the wheels in the parts box. It looks OK on the shelf. Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Link to the build http://public.fotki.com/djway3474/complete.../trans0443.html

Years ago I found an Infini T box with a broken builtup and there was a bugaboo body inside. Another thrift store find. I changed the colors of the decals away from that horrible pea green. I had to use some headers from a Trantula which look ok but dont allow the body to fit just right. There are a lot of flaws on this one but it looks cool on the shelf and thats what I care about. I shrunk the decals to fit the Fly Corvette C6R. I tried to cover the whole car with urethane clear but it reacted with the windows and they fogged. Lesson Learned. Other wise it came out pretty good. Hosted on Fotki

Well I have now used most of my box of Sizzler parts. I also had to use some parts from the Sling Shot dragster and some resin from R and M. Paint is Testors Orange Pearl. I made the Mooneyes decals years ago. Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Other Sizzlers Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki

Did we ever find out if the Chev Funny Car was metal or plastic??? Plastic I buy metal pass Of course I will be buying about a dozen of everything else mentioned LOL In Lindbergs stuff I saw some old Chevys. are they in the 1/25 range they would make some great hot rods for something new. I am really going to be very strained for cash next year. Dwayne J

This was a real glue bomb. I sanded and buffed out the plastic as best I could. Some of the old kits I like to leave them in raw plastic. I had to hit the parts box hard on this one. Front tires from the Predicta and rears from the Lil Coffin. Carbs and manifold from the Lil Coffin. Top was from the parts box. The frame and the chrome stuff from a later release of the truck. Alclad on the origional heads/valve covers. Origional interior was useable. More picts http://public.fotki.com/djway3474/complete...le-restoration/

Just for fun I decided to take a new VW Beetle kit I had and make a racer out of it. I decided to go curbside since the detail on this kit was not great. Made my decals to kinda go with some cars that race in the LeMans series. The rear wing and wheels came from a revell porsche evo 1 kit. Made my own front splitter and built wheel wells so you could not see through them.

Many of the Kit Bashers will be there as we are the majority of the volunteers that put on the show. A bunch of guys are coming in from Arizona. DJ

first trip to pegasus hobbies
djway3474 replied to sdrodder's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
When I worked down the street I spent lunch hours there. Luckily I now live 30 miles away and that slows me down, a bit LOL Great place. DJ -
this one is on the cover of this months Model Cars Mag

I built the 1/16 GT early in my venture into modeling. I did mine box stock and that thing wont fit together to save its life. Neither the front nor rear will sit well. I also tried one of the Lemans Miniatures resin cars mentioned above. It was so bad that I had to graft a lot of parts from a Fujimi kit to finish it off and much was just left out. the lemans kit with fujimi parts IMC kits - I had to use a lot of brass rod to get things to stay somewhat together I think this was the third car I built. Not much fits on this one. It was a restoration. I dont even have picts of the Bandi kit as I could not get it to stay together long enough to photo it. It was fashioned after the early versions of the car that were very flat sided. DJ

Great art work in the new Model Cars Mag. If anyone out there needs an artist Mike is your guy. We hired him to do our logo for our new contest out here in So Cal. Mike nailed it on the head and did exactly what we asked for. Great job Mike. DJ

I would like to thank Gregg and Darryl for the great coverage of the 2007 Cactus Classic. For all you guys out there you can see the depth of the building quality of the guys here in So Cal. Many of the cars featured are from the Kit Bashers Club of So Cal. These are the guys that will be putting on the new "CITRUS NATIONALS" model car contest next Feb in So Cal. SO COME ONE AND COME ALL it will be a great time. Here is the link to the contests web site - http://hometown.aol.com/scaledplastik/Citr...e.html#_welcome We still have some vendor tables left and we gratefully are accepting sponsorships for the class trophies. And to toot my own horn I really want to thank you guys for putting a few of my cars on the cover and a couple inside too. I enjoy getting in a Mag more than trophies. Thanks a bunch Dwayne

There is another two part putty at the hobby shop and it is Yello Blue putty. The box has all kinds of figures and dragons skulpted with the stuff. I have used it a couple of times and it is great stuff. One tube yellow putty and the other is a blue putty which gives you a green putty when mixed. Just a little water on the fingers and it is very easy to work with. I got mine at Pegasus out here in So Cal. DJ
