  1. I built a partial box out of 1" PVC. It is a square at the top with 4 legs that extend down. I can clip or tape the sweep to the back cross bar and I can clip the lights to any of the two side top bars or the top bar along the front. I purchased several of the metal light holder reflectors from the hardware store. I also purchased CFL's that have high lumen values (no longer a problem with todays ditgital cameras). That is the measure of light output and it is printed on the label. Get the highest lumen value you can find. Place the bulb in the reflector then find some sort of material to cover the front of the reflector that will hide the bulb and diffuse the light. Try to make it as white as possible to not color the light any more than need be. I just used paper towels. You then need to construct some reflectors that you can bounce light into the areas that are in shadow. I used some scrap foam core board (white), cut som shapes about twice the size of a model then taped on the back some angles cut to help it stand up. Bring those in just outside of the view of the lense and look at the car to make sure you are filling in the shadows. Since it is reflected light you will achieve a very nice gradiation of the light down the sides of the car. One thing I did wrong on these is I did not have enough room to move the camera back. The further back you are the more depth of field you get. That in addition to useing smaller F Stops. Set the camera up on a tripod and use the self timer to shoot and avoid camera shake. Also preset your white balance for the light source. Then no matter what color of car you shoot the color will be correct. Last set the shutter speed and f stop for the light position and don't mess with it unless you move the lights. It is best if you have a photo program to remove the dust you can't get off because even though the light source is larger that the car it is still small compared to they typical dust speck and that amplifies the dust. It is called specularity. If you can get a medium sized soft box then dust becomes less of an issue. Hope this helps.

  11. The 917 was the old Matchbox model kit that was missing a few parts so I went slot car with it. I used a Slot It RTR chassis. The other is an old Mustang builtup I had sitting around for years. I addes some fender flares and made the decals. The interior tub would not fit so I just filled the gap with some old card stock painted blace. This is another Slot It RTR chassis. 18. Have you tried it over pure white???? I am curious as to the yellow factor of the clear. DJ
  19. Here is another long on the bench restoration. Took me a long time to find the decals. I think I need to print some more because it looks like I did not interpret the instructions properly regarding the rear frame decals. I did not like the lumps of sprue they called springs so I wrapped some brass wire around some plastic rod that gave me the proper diameter and I was able to get the car to sit nice n low. This kit has a lot of the parts of the upcoming covered wagon kit. Great tires and wheels will be in that kit for old digger restorations. There is a lot of Alclad on this one. I am starting to like Alclad better than chrome because it is not bulky on fine parts like plating is. Paint is Tamiya clear red over gold. The helmet is a light dusting of Alclad Pale Gold over black. The motor is that new Testors gold from thier first batch of colors. A lot of detail painting makes the kit really pop. I must say I REALLY like the looks of this kit much more than I was expecting. Well this has been an 8 year journey. I purchased this partially built car a long time ago and dug right in. I took me a while to find all the parts and find good referance pictures (thank Brian). I did not like the look of the stock wheel tire combo so I hit the parts box and pulled out some old Pegasus wheels. I normally don't like tri blades but the looked good here and I installed them in a counter rotating fashion. Paint is a base silver with Tamiya clear red over that then covered by Urethane clear. I added plug wires and a shaft to the blower fans. I was going to put the motor in the car but I found that you can't see it with the rear in an open position so I placed it in the motor display case that comes with the car. The seat are supposed to raise up when you oppen the rear bonnette but the double hinge won't let it totally close so I disconnected that. I had to cut the interior tub in two sections so I could assemble the body before painting and all would register correctly afterwards. link to build http://public.fotki.com/djway3474/model-ca...-1-concept-car/ Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki
  21. If you are talking about the detail shots in the pits showing the timer box and all, that was an Alcohol FC in the back 40. Those are the only cars you can get close to to get any detail picts.
  22. Got to the drags and walked the pits. Watched the smoke plumes grow taller and taller from all the fires. Watched the Water drop planes drop into the old boat drag lake, Puddingstone, then crank up and over the hill to the fires. We saw some great runs especially after the sun dropped below the smoke clouds. After the races we went to the NHRA museum and then to the collectible show. We then went to Pegasus Hobby Shop in Montclair and attended the monthly model builders meet. There must of been at least 30 builders there. A long but very fun day. Lots of good reference picts in this link. http://public.fotki.com/djway3474/therealt...na-nov-15-2008/ Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki
  23. I used to have a photo studio and I was involved in a case where the person that violated the copyright did have financial gain (a definate requirement) and it still could not be prosecuted. the financial gain is a Major part of what must happen though.
  24. If all else fails have you tried long rubber gloves and a resperator?
  25. That is going to be very cool. I have been picking up some Vans myself for some ideas I have going. I had a van back in the day and so did my best friend. Oh the mamories LOL.
