You can kit bash and use a combo of the Testors motor and the revell and it looks pretty good. The tamiya kit is about the best base to make it look like a 1600+ variant. I found some parts box webbers and scratched the manifolds. The extractor exhaust is the hardest part. If you could find a resin it will cost you as much as a Tamiya kit anyway so you might as well start there.

Kewel Daddyo! Very clean building!

There is an extra sense of staisfaction with a good restoration of an old rare kit. Great job. Dwayne J

You always ask for criticism or comments. The only criticism I can come up with is they are not mine LOL. Great job. You high detail guys just boggle me with your abilities. Dwayne J

Thanks for all your tips. And believe me your English is better than many people that live here!

That looks good and it appears to be a simple out of the box build. Use some reference photos, add some more details and better detail painting and it should be a stunner.

What did you use to make the exhaust???? Very nice Job!

Gregg's iHobby Pictures

Very cool pictures Thank you. That Challenger looks big, I wonder how big the box will be on that one LOL. Those crawlers have me fascinated. I hope the lindberg coupe/rail comes out. -
It looks like the shop you assembled it in may be a tad dirty LOL Nice job

I have only glanced over mine but the worst part I saw was the seats. Motor looks salvagable but does look simple at first glance. Suspension parts are said to be big but knowing they are plastic I doubt they could have been much smaller with as heavy as this thing is going to be. All the chrome needs to be stripped and sprayed the appropriate metallic shade. Most everything else looks good.

If anyone out there knows of a source for a Vega Kamback please let me know. I have one of the AMT Kamback funnycar bodies but it is closer to 1/24 than 25th when compared to other Vega kits so I have not been able to figure a way to convert back to a street car. I have looked long and hard and grafting the two bodies does not look feasable. I am pretty sure there was a resin source but I cant remember the name of the caster. Any help???? Dwayne J

How do YOU assemble your project?
djway3474 replied to beefheart22's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I glue every sub assembly as much as possible before painting those parts. I do all the mock ups and totally tape it together as much as possible before any body painting is done. This allows you to check for fit problems and ride height et cetera. I then complete each sub assembly as much as I can before final assembly by adding the parts of differnt colors, chrome pieces and such. I also detail paint each part along the way as needed, before it becomes difficult to reach the needed area. I often re engineer the kit so I can remove as many seam lines as I can before paint especially on the body. After I paint the body the only handeling is final assembly. Dwayne -
Kit bashing vs. Scratch building
djway3474 replied to Jairus's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well I belong to the club KitBashers of So Cal and yep we say two or more kits LOL. Here is a car that includes both bashin and scratchin Hosted on Fotki link to the build http://public.fotki.com/djway3474/complete...da-barcheletta/ scratched body panels, exhaust, interior parts and other misc parts bashed Ferrari suspension and belly pan, late model motor parts, interior parts probably at least 5 kits and parts box stuff. one of my favorite builds ever, I have others that have won more trophies but I just like this and would love on in real life DJ -
Hot Rod TV model car coverage
djway3474 replied to djway3474's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well now you have seen my beat up mug and my friends John Terisi (in the beret) John Scudder (with the scruffy beard) Mike Flynn (with the 32) Most of the table pictures were my cars. If you saw the last Model Cars mag around 20 to 30 cars in there were from this group. I was really hoping to get some coverage for models and this can't hurt. When I saw the camera the first thought I had was that this was our chance to bring the hobby to a lot of people that have forgotten us. This was KEWL! The picts of all the models were from a vendor selling them at the show. I have now been in the news paper, on the cover of magazines, on radio and now on TV. I hope this does not mean my 15 minutes of fame is done LOL. I think the show will re-air at 4am sunday. Set your recorders. Just wear foggy glasses when our ugly mugs come on LOL. -
Hi Guys, My friend John Scudder just called me and he said the Producer of Hot Rod TV returned his call about the interviews he and I did and the contest coverage of the Grand National show. He was not able to talk to the producer to find out if we were on or the contest was on, but we do know the episode that may air us is on 3/14. We looked up the schedule and Hot Rod TV is on at 6:30am, 8:00am, and 8:30am. We have no idea which one is the right one. A back ground note, John and I were going to see the Black Widow pickup and I saw the Hot Rod TV guys there so I walked up and told them I had just finished restoring the original model from the 60's. The wanted to interview me. I stuttered and fumbled so I mentioned my friend knew more about models than I did, so the interviewed John. I then started to press them to go see the model car contest and finally they agreed. They showed up and John and I again spoke with them and we got them to talk to Flynn about his highly detailed 32. So hopefully the model car part will air and we can get more people interested in plastic. I am crossing my fingers. DJ

Well I think the answer lies on the hobby stores shelves. New AMT kits $13 none left on the shelves. Buyers are buying multiple copies. New Revell kits $20 and there are some left on the shelves. People are only buying one copy each. There is for all things a supply and demand pricing curve and there is a tipping point where sales drop dramatically. Not to be harsh but looking around the parking lot at a model car contest you don't see a lot of high buck new cars. That tells me that many of us, myself included, may not have a lot of disposable income. Probably why we build models and not the real thing. That being said pricing may be a critical point. AMT has it right with their pricing. Revell may just be over the edge. Lets not forget oil, the base of plastics has dropped back down so the materials cost is back down. Then there is the liscensing issue which may make model companies have to pass on some issues but they may need to negoiate harder. Auto companies may need to reconsider this issue as a free advertisement instead of a revenue streem but I doubt that will happen. They don't seem that bright LOL.

Well, I had 20 minutes to try and photograph near 400 models so the quality is not the best and I may have missed a few. For some reason the upload placed some of the pictures out of order. This was probably one of the best shows I have ever been to. Lots of vendors, great location near many restaurants, malls and movie theatres, unique trophies and there was a buzz in the air as everyone was having a fantastic time. Loads of fun for all. Judging was quick and was based on modeling effort and quality. Just a great day. Enjoy. DJ http://public.fotki.com/djway3474/model-ca...-nationals-2009 Also a great thanks to Gregg and Model Cars Magazine for all the support. They ran many adds for us and Darryl G. came to the event to take some picts. Thank you very much from the Citrus Nationals organizing committie.

You have seen the ads all over the Magazine ( Thanks Greg!) This is going to be great. Hosted on Fotki

Well my subscrption is almost at 4 years prepaid now. I am only one man LOL. -
The decals for this car were made from a T shirt that was the inspiration for the build. Hosted on Fotki I have other cars that decals were made from low resolution picts from the internet. It takes TIME and determination. I use an old version of Photoshop

Some great cars both big and small and I have some pictures of both. I was looking at the recreation of the Black Widow and wound up getting interviewed by Hot Rod TV. I convinced them to go over to the model contest and they interviewed 4 of us about the model hobby. We kept plugging the hobby so lets hope we get some new modelers from this. http://public.fotki.com/djway3474/model-ca...-national-road/
