Clearing over aftermarket decals
djway3474 replied to mopar01lee's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If you are using decals printed on the Alps printer many inks, especially white will react with the clear you are going to use and will react with some other clears. I found a simple solution to decal reactions. Coat with Future floor polish. I have not had a reaction with any clear since I started this. Brush on a coat, let dry, brush another thick coat and then let dry for at least a day. This also adds extra strength to the decal during the application process. Trim close to the decal and apply. Let dry then apply your clear. I have yet tried a clear that reacted with this process. Have fun. Dwayne -
NOPE. You will need at least 3 to 4 kits to recreate the car. I had the white version you show myself and I am slowly recreating it. I used 3 kits and hand made the black section behind the rear window and then Later I saw that in another kit. Then you need to mix and match to get the correct interior. Here is what I have so far. Hosted on Fotki here is a link to the kits I had to use plus picts of the build. I had to scratch out the radiator inlet. http://public.fotki.com/djway3474/model-car-projects/1986-mustang-gt-my-/ hope this helps and you better not finish before I do LOL

Alternate black for alcald
djway3474 replied to made007's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I use many colors for the base depending on the tone I want the chrome to be. I use many paints. The thing I always do is to coat the paint with Model Master Top Coat Clear which gives me a VERY SMOOTH finish which is key. I can handle the parts with out fear of it rubbing off as it sticks very well. -
Very cool. I can almost hear the ring slap.

I think the last release was the Testors and they had to blow them out to get rid of them back in the 90's. I am trying to find another to do richt this time.

Quite a few of the hard lines in the motor compartment did not work at all. I had to massage the upper doors to get them close. To a beginner this kit was difficult. I don't think I would have any trouble now days.

Just your average flocking you get at the hobby shop I used flat paint for the adhesive

I started this kit back in the 90's when I had just started modeling. I was so frustrated with fit problems I boxed it until recently. I would have liked to start over but instead I decided to just go for a nice shelf model. Got the new Batmobile in the mail today. So far looks pretty good but the red pinstripes are almost a flat paint. I need to figure a safe easy way to shine them up. DJ

Thanks Scott, I finished so many cars in the past two months that uploading all the picts was a ton of work. If you click on the photos they take you to the file that the car is in. Give it a try and look around. Thanks Dwayne

The wheels are some resin copies of some I had sitting around years ago. Either Aurora or Revell.

I was wondering if anyone would notice that LOL. I forgot it was there until I looked at the picts LOL

The motor and stack are part of the kit I just sprayed them with clear blue

Just rolled out. The roof was crushed on this one and it took about a week to massage it back into place. Hemi Orange and Light Gunmetal with urethane clear. All the plumbing is from the beading section at Michaels. Just rolled out of the garage. 1/12 57 Chevy Gasser. Scratch built the front suspension. Orion Silver and Lapis Blue with Testors Wet Coat Clear which is very easy to polish I may add but it took three cans. Man does this thing sparkle in the sunlight compared to indoors. Took me a long time to complete but I am very happy with the outcome. ;D I had made decals that said Suicide Ride but I like it clean so I left off the lettering. I think it was the Muci, I have not been a Lambo fan since the Countach. I think I was looking at this thing and the ugly wing late one night and the light bulb went off. I got lucky for once Thank you for all the kind words. Dwayne
