Here it is with the folding top. I used some Kinese Luko tape, folded it over with some plastic strips embeded between the two pieces. I then painted it black, shaped to fit and glued it on. It is a little thick but the texture is perfect and I am very happy with the look. Hosted on Fotki Now if I could only find me a !:! 57 ragtop I would be a happy man

Hosted on Fotki Thanks for all the suggestion. My final method was this. I found some tape physical thereapist use to stabalize joints. I foled it over with some plastic strips sandwiched in. Painted it black and there ya to. A little thick but the texture is perfect. It looks great on the shelf

VW Dave Is that material a cloth or more like masking tape? It was factory but I am not one that worries too much about being Exact I just like a nice reperesentation as you can drive yourself nuts trying to correct everything. and I am already nuts LOL

Great job and bonus point for making the stuff on your own. That is modeling at its best

Thanks for those ideas, I had not thought of either one. I am going to do an open top.

I wanted to recreate my first car, a 57 VW ragtop. I started with a 56 Gunze and a 66 Tamiya which I combined to make the body. I had to hand make the baja kit, wheels to mimic Jackmans, bumpers, exhaust, intake system, skid plate and cut the roof open. I found some seats like I had and put those in. I added all the interior body panels to make it like a real car which I set on a modified pan. Lots of cutting and grinding. I just need to figure out a way to replicate the ragtop and it is finished. Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki

Is Commander Bowman going to drive it and all its Stars? Nice detail work

I had left over parts from my recent Manx build so I decided to do the pan buggy version. I did not have another motor so I dug out a Corvair motor and decided to slap that in. With very few mods it slides right in. Thanks guys good eye Double D I used Stang lights as it was a common thing to do back in the day I also replaced the kit seats as they are WAY to small in scale. I also used some chorme headlights as the chrome in the MANX kit is more like spray paint. I did this car in the Hawaiian style. There was an article in hot VWs recently on Hawiian buggies and they all had bright color paint schemes many with flames and LOW. I am using my left over parts to make the dune buggy without the body and I will thorw in a Corvair engine. I am also getting close to recreating the Sandwinder Baja Bug, just like my first car. And another VW like the first Cal look that I built back in the 70s. All this VW stuff really makes me want to build me another 1:1 and join the local club. Thanks again for all the kind words. VDubs Rule!

I had an old partial Manx kit. Built up a killer 2350cc motor with some parts from the Fujimi 356 kit and made a muffler. Testors paint, clear, Boyd wheels, lowered the buggy to the weeds, made some flame decals. I want to cruise this bad boy from Wikiki to North shore Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki Hosted on Fotki:)

Beautiful job on the body. Do you have more picts of how you worked the rear fenders? I really like the frame and trans too. Great job

Has the Bugaboo been cancelled????
djway3474 replied to djway3474's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I just received a reply from Round 2 that the Bugaboo has been cancelled. That is at least 3 kits recently cancelled. This has really messed up my orders I have placed with vendors. It has also forced me into deciding not to preorder kits anymore. When buying on line you need to group orders in a fashion to maximize value in shipping et cetera. I am having to cancell so many orders to avoid excessive fees that I won't be doing that again. If I am not the only one coming to this conclusion then overall preorders will drop do to the on and off nature of announcements. This can set up a spiral downward. -
If you are using a digital camera purple cars almost always come out blue. You can get a correct picture if you preset the color balance to the light you have then shoot the car. I tried forever to get a purple candy car to come out purple but once I found the correct color temp it all was good. oh and Beauty on the car

I cant wait to see a full run. I once saw a chopped bus with a mid engine blown motor take off through a parking lot at the Route 66 show in SanBerdooo It was insane. I have been collecting picts of this car so I can do my version some day and I just cant wait VDubs (of all kinds )Rule

Thinking about getting a track & some cars.....
djway3474 replied to bigmikevee's topic in Model Car Racing
Check the surface textrue on the two tracks of choice and go for the one that feels like it may have more grip and wider. One important about width is when you start to slide coming out of a corner you want the rear tires to stay on the track so you can recover from the slide. The narrower tracks you fall off more. Don't worry about about the small differences in voltage. Run what ever cars you want. I have all brands and run them all on different tracks and no problems. You will find in general Scalextrix cars are faster than the Carrera cars as they have better magnets and ususlly faster motors. Nincos have the weakest magnets along with older Carreras. Nincos have some strong motors in many issues. Another alternative to the hinge system is a motorized pully that lifts the track up. I have seen systems hooked to a winch and lifts the entire track. In either case you are limiting you potential size of the track which gets you into the tight turn problems I mentiond earlier. FYI I have seen a 32md scale track that had an HO track running around inside it Have fun. Thse things can bee addicting. -

My 2 cents are, go with the larger/wider track, then you can run what you want. Avoid making a track with a ton of really tight turns which is usually a problem with limited space. Go with more sweepers and only one or two really tight turns. Too many tight turns really make it a series of drag races and also becomes very difficult to drive unless you have strong magnets in the cars. If you look at a lot of the European tracks even the tightest turns are pretty gentle. Over there the big thing is NO magnets. So it really depends on space and if you want magnets or not. Many of the makes of slot cars use little or not magnet although there may be a mounting point for them. Even so some don't provide much space and just are not fun on a really tight track.
